6 US troops/civis killed in Afghan attacks; Obama hosts April Fool prank kid Prez at WH

I had google news headline page from few hours ago before computer went into sleep mode. Top headline was Obama Obama meeting and giving White House to "youtube sensation" kid President who featured in Obama's April Fool prank earlier in the week. Second headline below it was that Obama had called to apologize for saying that CA AG Kamala was the "best looking" AG in the US. Seemed like a fun news day. After refreshing news page, saw this news report as top headline with Obama April fool prank news no longer on front page. Seemed like a major disconnect between what is coming out of White House and what US troops in Afghanistan are facing.


6 Americans, Afghan doctor killed in attacks in southern, eastern Afghanistan

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan — Six American troops and civilians and an Afghan doctor were killed in attacks on Saturday in southern and eastern Afghanistan as the U.S. military’s top officer began a weekend visit to the country, officials said.

In the south, three U.S. service members, two U.S. civilians and the doctor were killed when a suicide bomber detonated a car full of explosives just as a convoy with the international military coalition drove past another convoy of vehicles carrying the governor of Zabul province.


Another American civilian was killed in an insurgent attack in eastern Afghanistan, the U.S. military said in a statement.
The attacks occurred the same day that U.S. Gen. Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, arrived in Afghanistan for a visit aimed at assessing the level of training that American troops can provide to Afghan security forces after international combat forces complete their withdrawal at the end of 2014.

So far search did not show any news report about Obama addressing loss of 6 American lives in Afghanistan today or Obama making calls to/visiting with families of killed Americans.

Did find bunch of more Obama April fool pranks news in search that are now removed from front page.

This is not Benghazi type incidence but it is being reported now that a US diplomat was among those killed in this attack.


Afghan attacks kill U.S. diplomat, soldiers, others

(Reuters) - A car bomb blast killed five Americans, including three U.S. soldiers and a young diplomat, on Saturday, while an American civilian died in a separate attack in the east.

"Our American officials and their Afghan colleagues were on their way to donate books to students in a school in Qalat, the province's capital, when they were struck by this despicable attack," Kerry said in his statement.

Dropping double dip drone bombs on rescue villagers one day and then running "school book donation" caravans in same region doesn't seem like a smart strategy by Obama team.

WASHINGTON — President Obama went out for a round of golf Saturday afternoon, his second weekend in a row to hit the links at a course at Joint Base Andrews.
The president golfed with White House aides Marvin Nicholson, Joe Paulsen, and Michael Brush.
Last Saturday, the president played golf (http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2013/03/obama-golfs-for-first-time-since-sequester-cuts/) at the same course with Nicholson, Brush, and friend and Chicago businessman Marty Nesbitt. The outing marked his first time on the golf course since the sequester cuts went into place on March 1. The president also took in the Syracuse-Marquette NCAA tournament basketball game (http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2013/03/obama-stops-by-marquette-syracuse-basketball-game/) at the Verizon Center, where he spent time talking with Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III last weekend.
