CNN is looking to relaunch Crossfire, the political debate show that aired on the network for more than two decades, sources at the network confirm.

Specific plans for the show have yet to be determined, according to TVNewser's Alex Weprin, who first reported the news, and it is possible the relaunch may not come to fruition. (One source told POLITICO the show would "probably" relaunch.)

The show, which pitted a progressive co-host against a conservative co-host (and, for a time, a "center" co-host), launched in 1982 and cancelled in 2005, just months after The Daily Show's Jon Stewart famously criticized co-hosts Paul Begala and Tucker Carlson of "hurting America" with their partisan bickering.

Sources did not name any potential co-hosts and Weprin's report did not include any, either. Previous "Crossfire" co-hosts included Tom Braden, Michael Kinsley, Geraldine Ferraro, Bill Press and James Carville (on the left) and Pat Buchanan, Robert Novak, John Sununu, and Mary Matalin (on the right). Of all the previous co-hosts, only Begala is still at the network.

It was a good show, and spawned Public Forum debate in high school. I think a 4 person panel would be ideal, with each person representing a different faction of the party. Imagine Ron Paul sitting on a panel with Bill Kristol against say a Cenk Uygur liberal and a blue-dog type, it would be a four way fight.

If the format was like in that video and the opposing host was someone mild mannered like Buckley where you can actually have a debate, then Ron would be perfect. I suspect they want a rapid fire shouting match and Ron does not do well in those type of cross fire situations.

They need someone with Ron's beliefs that is a fairly large authoritarian looking fellow that can articulate the points in rapid fire. This is why guys like O'Reilly and O'Donnell dominate their opponents in a debate and do well with the average Joe.

Morgan is already losing what little viewership he has.

Ron would be better. Honestly, I'd rather the Firing Line format, too.

First thing I thought is I hope they don't bring back Carville. He's just articulate enough to make his BS believable.

the judge should defect to CNN and co host the show with Al Sharpton. Talk about an intellectual beatdown!

One debater: "We need to tax at least a million dollars from the average person's income over their lifetime if we're going to be able to keep funding all these great programs."

The other: "Yes, well the part where your plan fails is where you fail to see that a million dollars isn't exactly a lot of money these days, you'd have to be out of your mind to think the children in these country will be able to survive on breadcrumbs like that."

I'd never watch that sort of 'shout over you' crap. I was just wishing there was a show I'd actually watch. There are REASONS ratings are dropping for that demogoguery
