Washington state will clamp down on bars that have been sidestepping a ban on consuming marijuana in public by converting part of their space into private clubs.

The move comes as the state considers ways to regulate marijuana after voters legalized the drug for recreational use last year.

....

The state's Liquor Control Board, charged with overseeing the move to legal recreational pot use, said on Wednesday that it would crack down on bars that convert into clubs where people can consume marijuana.

"These licensed locations are allowing patrons to either smoke, vaporize or otherwise ingest marijuana on the premises," the board said in a statement.

OK, so let me make sure I have this right: the people of the state of WA decided it was time to give up on the idiotic prohibition against pot but the infallible state decides it has to continue to nanny the flock. Is that about it?

Assuming I've not misunderstood, all I can do is wonder how it is that these imbeciles are so concerned over a settled issue as the nation of which it is a member state falls to ruin about its own ears.

Seems once consent was taken as granted, it can not be revoked.

The people of the state of WA were fooled into decriminalizing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decriminalization) an ounce or less of Marijuana, if you're over 21 and buy it from a state licensed store (which don't exist). For those that don't believe that, look at the definitions of "Legalize (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legalization)" and DECRIMINALIZE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decriminalization).

If you have over an ounce, guess what happens. If you grow a single plant without a med card, it's a felony. And if you are a medical patient, you'd better not drive because you're likely DUI. There's no talk now of "fixing" that little problem.

Worse, that vote turned the entire business over to the state liquor control board. Good luck ever getting those fleabags out of the business. This after the state has ruined families, shot people, raided homes at 6am, confiscated property and generally treated pot smokers like lepers.

Now the people are supposed to treat these criminals like old friends, and give them their $.

Again with the propaganda...Everyone who wants marijuana right now can get one at a privately run dispensary with their green card, which is laughably easy to obtain. To expect the State to have a working store front on Day 1 is ridiculous. Since WA was the first State to LEGALIZE smoking and possession of 'small' (one ounce is by no means tiny) quantities of marijuana, and since they did it in a manner that the Soccer Moms and cautious Democrats would approve (intensely regulated), they made a provision to essentially not have all the finicky little details sorted out until December 7th of this year.

Seattle Police recently held a Q&A alongside the ACLU attorney who spearheaded the initiative at a local pub I frequent and the question of local Police busting into our homes to find if we are growing came up--the response was that it had probably a 0% chance of happening and is virtually unprecedented. They just don't care and it isn't a priority.

As for the whole DUI issue, alongside a lot of other finicky things like the 'what is considered smoking in private' deal that the bar-owners mentioned in the article are dealing with, these are things that will be fleshed out and/or challenged over time. That's how unprecedented laws get their details worked out; through the creation of precedents. The DUI issue hasn't come up yet, but it will, and when the evidence in court for some disabled Veteran being super high on the wheel is NOT that he was driving dangerously and invoking probable cause, but rather that there was a random drug test done that showed he might have consumed THC in the last week? That case will get thrown out and they will be forced to do mouth-swabs that are much more accurate.

FINALLY, we f%*king just deregulated alcohol and removed it from State-run stores in 2010. What are you medicated on to say 'Good luck ever getting those fleabags out of business.'

Good lord. All the article is talking about is the confusion surrounding what happens when you kill off the Drug War on Cannabis. These things take time.
