They're basically trashcans with a yellow lid. They dropped them on our driveways and bill us for them. Supposedly we "don't have a choice" on buying them. That's what everyone is saying.

I wonder what the city will do to me if I don't pay.

They'll stop picking up your trash.

I'd keep putting it out there. I guess it depends on if you pay for your trash or if its "included" in your taxes (property). I'd guess you're not the only one who doesn't want to pay for the bin. Alternatively you could leave the recycling bin out there and send the city a bill for rent by the square footage.

If they're doing it like my folks the county is actually PAYING a recycling firm to come pick up bins with everything recyclable mixed into one. The bins were however thrown into the deal.

Recycling is good, but I'm happy I live someone where we still have freedom of choice in waste management. I just ordered a new recycling bin last week and the trash company dropped it off a couple days later free of charge.

Wait... so they just straight up dropped recycle bins on you and told you to pay up?

Wow...

I shouldn't be surprised, but sometimes the tyranny, even on a scale this small, is so in-your-face that it's ridiculous.

Timely!Wow,I just right now wheeled my new bin in from the street, same as the trash bin but with a yellow lid.

I never used the old little recycle bin and only use the trash bin once or twice a year.I live close to the dump and have a 200 foot driveway and a pickup truck. It is easier to walk 15 feet and throw my trash into the truck and drop it off at the dump I drive pass to go pretty much anywhere than it is to wheel it 400 feet round trip up the driveway.

This will get less use from me than the trash bin.

Less is more.

At least, that's what the government tells me.

I think this is great. Except instead of taxing you (the charge), they should give you a tax credit to encourage you to be responsible.
