Saturday, November 24, 2007 - FreeMarketNews.com

A new and somewhat controversial "mass donation day" web site for the limited-government presidential candidacy of Ron Paul (R-Tex) has already received nearly 1,500 pledges at $100 per pledge - after only two days posting.

The new site is the subject of some controversy among Ron Paul supporters because of the potential to dilute another mass donation day scheduled for December 16th. The new one is set for November 30th.

The Nov 30th pledge site can be seen at rudysreadinglist.com.

The Dec 16th pledge site can be seen at teaparty07.com.

FMNN itself, after "breaking" the story yesterday morning, (see related front-page article) received numerous feedbacks, both pro and con, on the subject. The controversy is evident on the wider Internet as well, among supporters of the Jeffersonian conservative Ron Paul. Some believe that the publicity from a concentrated donation day on December 16th outweighs a temporary scarcity of funds for the campaign.

The website is a reference to a reading list that Ron Paul provided to Rudy Giuliani after Giuiliani disparaged a statement of Ron Paul’s during the "First in South" GOP debate. Ron Paul stated at the time that 50 years of interventionism in the Middle East is a significant motivating tool for radical Islamists. Giuliani disagreed and Ron Paul later held a news conference and recommended a “reading list” that Giuliani could use to better educate himself on the realities of foreign interventionism.

The man behind the so-called Ron Paul “money bombs,” Trevor Lyman, apparently realigned his approach after the Ron Paul campaign e-mailed supporters with a message that it could not wait for donations and needed funds right away. Lyman’s effort is separate from the Ron Paul campaign and not subject to any control from it. However, the plea for immediate funds obviously triggered a response – and the result is RudysReadingList.com.

I think Alex was talking about cumulative totals -- not single-day amounts.

of course, hitting 12mil goal in the 30th isn't a huge goal, but hitting the goal will trigger a fair amount of media attention, and the teaparty momentum is insane and trust I'm gonna be getttng my flyer all over campus this week wwith the teaparty website on it.

We need fresh blood for the teaparty, and I plan on getting it. Freedom is a blood thirsty beauty

it'd be nice but I doubt we can get MSM media attention by friday, and if we did if people would notice fast enough for that friday, it'll more than likeley have to be more an online push. I would prefer the teaparty gets mentioned on TV since we'll have more time to rganize those viewers into the fold.

We should just get a chipin going so that we can mail several sets of these books to Rudy's campaign headquarters depending on what states he has offices in. That would be great! :D

If the campaign breaks $12 million, it won't matter. The goal here is different. It's hopefully going to provide a media buzz for the beginning of December, leading up to and helping promote the Tea Party.

Over time, I hope people see the value in doing this. It's a very clever marketing idea.

I wish the campaign had told us earlier that they need the money now. November 30th probably won't be a very big day (although I expect at least 1 million). They are going to have to hold out until Dec. 16. We're going to make history! :D

Hey guys- I've been doing some research (looking at the past news articles that cover Ron Paul donation amounts) and the media has been reporting with a mention of the 12 million dollar mark for some time now. What I mean is almost every time they mention November 5th (or anything else about RP's money) there is a further mention of something like, "and he hopes to break $12 million for the quarter".

I've been looking and I've found a TON of links in just the first few pages.. here is a list but please remember I'm just getting started (if you want to see more for yourself now google news "ron paul 4th quarter" - or click here http://news.google.com/news?q=ron+paul+4th+quarter&hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hs=xNy&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&oi=news_result&resnum=1&ct=title)..

So this means the media is pretty fixated on Ron Paul's $12 million dollar goal. That's a guarantee that if we break $12 million on the 30th we're going to get a lot of attention. Not to mention there are other articles coming out now saying Ron Paul raised $9 million in two months.. they would go crazy with $12 million in two months. $6 million a month!!

So if we can break the $12 million mark RudysReadingList.com will get a ton of attention- and of course we'll make sure the site prominently displays (and I mean right up top and in their face) the TeaParty07.com drive. Also RudysReadingList.com will again challenge the MSM's propaganda on the war.

So this will be the second time we're in the news for fund raising totals, and now TeaParty07.com will be a guaranteed success (making it three times in the news).. because everything we raise will be beating our goal- it will be like running up the score! We all know that marketing experts say you have to repeat a message about 7 or 8 times to start gaining traction..

If we don't give on the 30th (about 2.8 million to break $12 million) then we will both break $12 million and more on December 16th.. that means we lost a chance for that much needed MSM reptition- the breaking of $12 million will be a part of the TeaParty drive and can't be used on it's own.

Anyway just some thoughts. I'm still finding more links to prove the point.. which is we need repetition in the MSM. Breaking $12 million is the way to do it. And just think- all of this before we even consider it means the campaign has more money now to do some of that repetitive marketing that is so crucial.

I'm going to be writing up a more official summary of this soon and will be pushing it all week on radio and MSM- I'm going to call them starting Monday. Oh and PBS Now is coming to Manchester to do an interview with myself and other RP supporters. He's catchin on.. I'm tellin ya! ;)

Great point trevor. I too have noticed recently that all the press is mentioning his $9 million raised and $12 million dollar goal.

This is great news on another aspect. There were several on this forum, myself included that felt that the media would not cover another moneybomb in the $3-5 million range. This means that the story after Nov 30th will not be the moneybomb but the quarter total leaving open the great story line two weeks later about the $10 million tea party and what will then be our $22+ million quarter.

Our goal thence for the 30th should be to reach $12 million... highly attainable for as you say its only $2.8 million away

Yes I'm here in NH!

Also I started a new thread for this point.. maybe I shouldn't have but I don't know if most will look through this one and I don't want the point to be buried..

but please check that out and rate and comment - what I'll do is keep editing in the newer stories I find so the list will grow and grow.

The campaign email asking for donations appears to have caused the donations for Thanksgiving week to double over the prior week. Hopefully Rudy’s Reading List will cause at least as much to be donated the last week of the month as Thanksgiving week. Both those events can give the campaign a few more dollars to work with until December 16th.

Have noticed the same problem with teaparty07.com, rudysreadinglist.com, ronpaulblimp.com. Having no problem loading other sites. Anyone else having problems?

If I'm having trouble loading these pages on a high-speed connection, then this could be an issue for people with slower Internet connections. In addition, when pages take too long to load, the average surfer won't hang around for it to finish. Dedicated RP supporters are, of course, different, but if someone is just curious to check things out, a slow-loading page could put an end to their curiosity.

The sites need to be W3C standards conformant, otherwise certain browsers, especially the standards-conformant modern ones, will balk at the bad code. The problem is also the size of the images, particuarly in terms of number of KBs. Have they been compressed at all, and at what magnitude?

The most significant pledge-drive now is:

www.rudysreadinglist.com

It is very important that we hit our goal putting us over 12M. This way we can send a message to Rudy in front of MSM for his lacking Foriegn Policy knowlege, while raising some cash to spend in NH and IA.

Remember how much press we got when Rudy challenged Dr. Paul during the debate? Well, this is an effort to re-hash that debate!!

Pledge if you can this Nov 30th. INCOMING!

Good for you. If we can get Ron Paul elected then we will eventually save so much on taxes that we won't have to eat bologna and pot pies, but we would because we like it. "If I had a million dollars..."

Have those pledges been updated in the last couple of days? 2,200 seems low to me. Not that I'm complaining about $220,000. :p
