The “Monsanto Protection Act” effectively bars federal courts from being able to halt the sale or planting of controversial genetically modified (aka GMO) or genetically engineered (GE) seeds, no matter what health issues may arise concerning GMOs in the future. The advent of genetically modified seeds — which has been driven by the massive Monsanto Company – and their exploding use in farms across America came on fast and has proved a huge boon for Monsanto’s profits.

But many anti-GMO folks argue there have not been enough studies into the potential health risks of this new class of crop. Well, now it appears that even if those studies are completed and they end up revealing severe adverse health effects related to the consumption of genetically modified foods, the courts will have no ability to stop the spread of the seeds and the crops they bear.

Mikulski under pressure for 'Monsanto rider' in funding bill

Food safety groups are ramping up pressure on Sen. Barbara A. Mikulski over language included in a government funding bill that would make it harder for courts to block the planting of genetically engineered crops.

The language, tucked into appropriations legislation to fund the government through the end of the fiscal year, would strip courts of the power to halt the planting of such crops if a judge felt a review of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's approval was warranted over health or environmental concerns.

Critics have referred to the language as the "Monsanto rider" in reference to the massive, Missouri-based agribusiness.

Mikulski, the Maryland Democrat who was named the Senate Appropriations Committee chair in December, is under fire for allowing the language into the broader funding bill that her committee oversees.

It was good to see that my Senator, Roy Blunt (R-MO) received the most amount of lobbying money from Monsanto in this matter. To the tune of $70k+

What a world we're living in.

The issue with this is the founders never envisioned the scientific altering of life. The author of this article is just plain wrong. GMO organisms can very easily weed out the natural, unmodified organisms. Look at salmon. It's a serious issue and one that should be stopped immediately so all ramifications can be understood before it moves forward. Monsanto does not have the right to alter life, particularly life that others will consume. We should have the right to unmodified, natural, wholesome food.

Not to mention that they are patenting seed. And not just their own modified seed.

Buy heirloom seeds while you can and start growing your own food, people. While you still can.

We fought and lost against Monsanto in Cali. This corporation is evil.

Even after he signed Big Ag's Food "Safety" Bill into law. Idiots.

There are treasonous acts being committed. Not just against Americans, but against all of mankind and nature itself.
