As an electrician, i am not sure if i have ever seen an electrical panel within 3 feet of a mop sink, in a janitors closet. I am sure that room gets crowded with stuff like carts, cleaning supplies...

Seems like someone didnt do their homework.

Since when is a janitors closet tiled in marble or finished granite?

When it's the taxpayer taking care of the renovation bill.

Seems like someone didnt do their homework. But electrical and building codes are for everyone except the government, didn't you know? I mean they exempt themselves because THEY are the ones who write the code :p

As a construction worker: if there is any job I don't mind OSHA or permit regulators, is on their own jobs. They don't care flat-out. My dad snuck me and my brother into the FBI building downtown(in a greenlee) so we could install carpet. But you have to do week long background checks... Not when they need the job done.

Can anyone actually cite the electrical code this violates?

I think it is a bad idea but not sure it is against code. It appears to have all of the necessary code clearances. There are codes against panels in bathrooms in dwelling units but this is neither.

Clearly, the idiots in the TN legislature have never worked as a janitor nor been in the military. Mop sinks are common in commercial and military buildings.

Perhaps a requirement to either serve in the military, or have verifiable employment in janitorial work should be necessary for political office.

A part time job at McDonald's as a teenager qualifies. McDonald's, no matter where you go, always has clean bathrooms. For that reason alone, I like McDonald's.

You know it! Just pull the panel down.

Ive been looking through the code book, the only thing i am finding other than your basic clearances, you also have to select the correct panel enclosure type (110.28). The actual enclosure type is not easilly identified in the picture to me, but given that the proximity of the mop wash to the panel, i wouldn't install anything less than a enclosure type 4, which is suitable for "hosedown and splashing water."

But, as with everything else in the codebook it just depends on the inspector's mood (interpretation). He may decide that a enclosure type 2 is sufficient (falling liquids and light splashing).
