I find this difficult to believe. How do you go from 'Goldwater radical' to partisan hack who gets a tingle up his leg when seeing Obama speak?

I don't think this is a big secret. He has said in interviews with Ron that he was enraptured by libertarianism as a kid. He said he "grew up," and "total freedom doesn't seem to work."

Yeah, he said that.

To be fair, Obama ran on idealism. That may be part of what Matthews wanted. But there is no question his views must have changed a lot.

Maybe by saying he "grew up" he meant that the continuous alcohol, fluoride, or cronyism rotted his brain to the point where he forgot that libertarianism has never endorsed total freedom?

I believe Karl Rove started out as a Goldwater fan as well.

Everyone claims that. He was a Gerald Ford fan.

Goldwater spoke truth to power. That is very attractive. Be careful, because in about 20 years or so, you will hear all kinds of people across the political spectrum saying they used to be a Ron Paul fan. Even though, by then, their politics will have diverge to the point of non-recognition.

Amazing what a hefty regular paycheck can do to change a man's opinion.

What I don't understand about the media is that they praise Goldwater and say he would be a RINO in today's extreme GOP yet when it looks like a new Goldwater (Rand) emerges they are quick to cast him aside and characterize him as some RWNJ.

That's his name isnt it? :P

Goldwater is historical and dead so it's safe to look back at him favorably.

Rand is here and now so they will want to destroy him.

Why is that hard to understand, don't you understand they just want to control you and your opinion. Seems pretty rational to me.

Good point. Michelle Malkin claim she voted for Harry Browne.

People that lack principles just d/evolve more over time. If your ship is dependent on wind to sail; you better be damn sure they they are facing the right direction.

Reagan up until like 1976 was a registered Democrat.
