The CIA's chief technology officer outlined the agency's endless appetite for data in a far-ranging speech on Wednesday.

Speaking before a crowd of tech geeks at GigaOM's Structure:Data conference in New York City, CTO Ira "Gus" Hunt said that the world is increasingly awash in information from text messages, tweets, and videos -- and that the agency wants all of it.

"The value of any piece of information is only known when you can connect it with something else that arrives at a future point in time," Hunt said.

"Since you can't connect dots you don't have,
it drives us into a mode of,

we fundamentally try
to collect everything
and hang onto it forever."

- Ira Hunt, Chief Technology Officer, CIA

Whelp, there you have it, in case there was any doubt. Couple this with the massive NSA data center(s) that they're building, and it's obvious that all electronic communications are being stored by the gov't to be edify you later in life (once enough "dots" of their choosing have been connected).

Short of an EMP, is there any way this data could get wiped out?

Virus. P2P Cypherspace is really the solution though, though a combination of the two would be potent.

"we fundamentally try to collect everything and hang onto it forever."

We knew this, but it still surprises me that they actually admit it now.

Encryption from the outside is tough...you need a good samaritan mole on the inside.

And ask the average 'mercian and they're perfectly fine with it.

You have a right to privacy until their infringement of your privacy reveals something that gives them authority to infringe upon your privacy, or until the computer says so

Just another ruling class dodge and weave.

Remember "Total Information Awareness"?

Remember how they told us that project has been shelved and discontinued as a horrendous infringement on the rights of a free people?

Yeah, thought so...

It really was a horrible video. He bragged about it to the very end what they are capable of. My only response is FUCK YOU CIA. Store that in your database.
