So, it was brought up by my family, how nice it would be to stay at an "Ice Hotel".

Lacking proper "papers" or Central American surnames, I cannot get them in or out of Fortress Amerika very easily.

OK, let's see what there is for ice hotels in the Benighted States.

Ah, here's the first one being built, in Alaska. (Still a problem coming and going, but, we'll work on that.)

Oh, wait, never mind...

Update: Construction on the Aurora Ice Hotel has been indefinitely "frozen" by the Alaska Fire Marshall. According to Associated Press reports, the Fire Marshall's office cited "unspecified building-code and public-safety concerns." The owners of the site are continuing construction of what is now being called the world's largest ice sculpture, but guests will not be allowed to stay overnight.

Because, you know, fire is a real issue here:

Of course, you could never get away with such a thing in heavily socialist and regulated Sweden, or Quebec.

Next you know, govt agencies will start reporting on how Ice buildings are becoming more and more uninhabitable because of global warming.

You don't need an ice building..

Exactly. Therefore you don't get one, can't have one, and are reported for asking about it.

Just don't fall asleep with a lit cigarette. I hate it when I read about a house built out of frozen water burning to the ground... err....down to the ice!

At the end of the article there's a link to another article about the first guest at the hotel who is none other than an IRS agent who dropped $878 for a two night stay for himself an another person.

So after another long muggy New Hampshire winter,no doubt suffering from prickly heat and such, you and the clan want to cool off in an underground ice palace somewhere?

Makes sense.

So many questions. Are the pipes always froze? Is the toilet made of ice? If so wouldn't the water in the bowl freeze and not flush? If you had a full bladder would you melt the toilet?
