Australian Elections today.
Both parties suck in my opinion. Lol, its just not as obvious as it is with the US two party system. (Democons/neocrats | Neocons) so choice is fairly evident, they're mostly the same.

The 'Liberty & Democracy Party' (LDP) was formed in 2001. This is its first election running though. Hope they do well! Libertarian party - essentially its a Ron Paul party in a way. ;)

Anyways, heading off to an election party tonight. You'll probably hear the result on the news anyway, [probably not in the US] lol.

Any other Aussies vote for LDP today? Here we vote in the House of Reps & the Senate at the same time. House of Reps [7 party's to choose]

I also voted below the line in the senate [65 candidates, you have to number in your preferences, from 1-65. LOL, took a while. Otherwise if you vote above the line, for that party with just a "1" - they preference their votes to other parties (i.e Shooters rights party) What women want party, lmao. etc. etc. If you don't like the preferences, you vote below the line so they go to who you want..

Lets just say, the Socialist Alliance, all extreme left and other extreme right (nationalistic)/ loonish (racist) parties went near the very bottom.

- This may belong in the Politics & other section. Only internationals come here though really.. Plus its the Quasi-Ron Paul Party in Aus, something worth letting be known. :)

Yea, Australia's not in as bad a state as the US. But we're heading in the exact same direction; if not worse. Our electoral laws are the worst in the western world. On paper, they are shithouse. But in practice they aren't so bad - only a bit of integrity on a large scale hinders meltdown. You can donate up to $10,000 and remain hidden, individually and up to $90,000 I think as a corporation.. transparency isn't exactly built into our system at all...

Basically, there the two main parties (Liberals) are backed by Business [essentially right] and the (Labor Party) are backed by the Unions [essentially left]... So its much the same. The Greens party is the largest 3rd party. Representing Global Warming, lol. With largely radical economic propositions.

Voting is compulsory here too. So it is a make up of the whole county really.

There is also an online democracy party. "Senator On-Line is Australia's only Internet based democratic political party."
Senator On-Line (‘SOL’) is a truly democratic party which will allow everyone on the Australian Electoral roll who has access to the internet to vote on every Bill put to Parliament and have its Senators vote in accordance with a clear majority view.

LMAO! :D Chances are they're not going to win a seat. First in the world though, online political party.. the senators vote with the way the public does online. (They'd need a secure server, hah ;s) First to let the women vote aswell. :)

Americans have to work hard to find news like this. Seems Rupert Murdoch and friends would rather bombard us with information about Brittney Spears' underwear, or lack thereof.

I did!

Just dissappointed that the LDP hasn't taken an anti-war stance.

My guess is the party is heading to libertarian beltway oblivion, like CATO has done.

Some of these beltway libertarians (who try to please the establishment) are Ron Paul's most vicious opponents.

I think Australia needs a Freedom Party to start drawing in the lefties and educating them on economics.

They're not anti-war?
Ohhh noes.. Well, they are gonna call themselves the Liberal Democratic Party next time.. (LDP was only on the ballot) so that'll give them more *second hand* votes, lol.

Australia has taken a step in the right direction I think.. (just a tippie toe)
- I'll all about honesty tbh. So until Rudd / lies / labor scandals come out.. he has my support, in a limited way.

Libertarians in Australia are different than Libertarians in the USA.

The Australian mindset is a lot more socialist oriented than here in the USA.

Australia does need a freedom party but the real problem is so few Australian's understand what freedom is about and thus such a party will hardly get any support.

The freedom movement in Australia, unfortunately, consists of many who believe in British Isrealism/Identity philosophy (ie. the white race is the true Israel). It used to annoy me a lot at the rallies and meetings I used to attend over there.

Preferential voting in Australia sucks too as it forces everyone to support one of the major parties in the end.

Also it is important to note that Australia was founded as a Constitutional Monarchy not as a Democracy.

Australians are extreme nanny-staters compared even to New Zealand. NZ on the other hand had its parliment taken over by a centerist with five seats...
