Austin is like commie central down there .Probably belongs to the city council or something .Looking to ticket people feeding the poor without a kitchen license or something .....

I feel sure it wasn't. He sometimes prints unvetted stuff that turns out inaccurate, but he doesn't make stuff up, that I've ever seen.

Counting trees or have some people been living in such a manner that they can't trust anyone, especially a large group of people peaceably assembling.

Seriously? This is a remote control helicopter with a camera on it.

I couldn't find the exact model, but to me, it doesn't look like anything more than this:

Yes... but what are the limits of this technology in our society? Is it ok to peer into windows with high res cameras "inadvertently" capturing what would have otherwise, from the ground, been private? What happens when someone take a small fleet of these "children's toys" and tasks them to monitoring all activity in a city, AI controlled:

How about in the hands of Google?
What if Billionaire Bloomberg puts 10,000 Parrot Drones in the skies over NY after he gets out of office?
How about your next door neighbor keeping a few pointed towards your windows with a live web feed?
White supremacists tracking brown people with a small drone fleet?
Criminals casing a neighborhood for who's home and who's not?

Where does it end?

It's not Jones'. He's not stupid. It's not a child's toy either. It was being used for SXSW (http://motherboard.vice.com/blog/when-swarms-of-drones-invaded-viceland). (<- See the vid at the bottom of the page.)

Daniel Sunjata is so...handsome. He's taken a lot of flack for being a "Truther," which they carried over to his character on Rescue Me.

Wow, lots of fail in this thread.

So, the government has been announcing for years that it plans to buy tens of thousands of drones (of all shapes and sizes) and put them in the air, reports come in daily of new drone purchases by cops, feds and other enforcement "officials", these things have been popping up in flight all over and even spotted by airline pilots.

So one is caught flying in Austin, and, because of the insane hatred some have for Alex Jones, it's automatically a fake, when facts would heavily suggest that just the opposite is true.

I wish I had never helped my friend (who is no longer with us, he couldn't take it anymore) stabilize the flight this shit. It always seems innocent during development, it's really cool to be able to film nature in it's natural state. This kind of shit is why I stopped working on new shit. Although, I guess I still do with software...dang it. Makes me just want to be a hermit, sometimes. I just keep seeing the little bit of influence I've had on some things...and I get sick to my stomach. edit: I know, someone's going to do it, but no excuses.

The facts suggest it's an RC helicopter with a camera on it - not a drone with "tazers and gas". The video was over-reacting, and kudos to Lucille finding the actually facts of the story before running a sensationalized video trying to get everyone up-in-arms before doing a little bit of research as to what it actually was.

It's not automatically a fake because it's Jones; it's automatically a fake because it wasn't a weaponized drone.

I am not sure that the owner/operator of the drone has positively been identified. It's true there were drone demonstrations at the SXSW festival, but it doesn't necessarily follow that the drone in the video was part of that demo.

The Austin Police has trained with drones:
http://www.myfoxaustin.com/story/18441704/apd-trains-with-drones-austin-may-become-test-site
https://www.muckrock.com/news/archives/2012/sep/11/how-austin-tx-almost-purchased-its-first-drone/
http://www.myfoxaustin.com/story/19352934/city-council-approves-new-police-helicopter

Maybe they decided this festival would be a good opportunity to see whether drone surveillance would work well for them in practice, without drawing undue suspicion.

Sorry, but Jones' lack of credibility is of his own doing. He has no one to blame but himself that people would be skeptical when he claims to have miraculously captured a government drone flying on film, by pure chance. Especially considering the timing.

There's a cost for past antics. Remember the moral of The Boy Who Cried Wolf.

Just sayin'.
Don't believe everything Alex Jones says or does just because he's seen as one of the "good guys." Sensationalizing or lying about things for the sake of gaining a political edge or furthering an agenda is bad news. Sticking to facts and examining things, even if they seem to help our cause, is always healthy.

Skeptical is one thing.

Irrational discounting of anything that has "InfoWars" attached to it another.

Some folks just despise Jones, and always will, no matter what he does, even if he walked on water.

Pretty much the way I view anything that comes out of government's word hole.

My goodness, the William Cooper Vs. Alex Jones fight is still going on? Alex exaggerates one or two things, and that invalidates everything else he's ever talked about? Goodness gracious.

We should all be here because of our dismay over the Government's overreach. Anyone who is laughing at AJ is consequently defending the government. If you think our government is not capable of pain and suffering on a much higher level (the level that AJ hints is a possibility , not a reality), then you dont know your history. All you have to do is take a look at the people in power, and understand they they think of themselves as the ones that "we've" been waiting for, that they are going to "do it better" this time. You put a group of people in power, who are passionate about their beliefs AND feel that they know better than you, then you BETTER believe that they are going to use that power to enforce their beliefs of how you should live and behave.

So basically, you laugh at AJ's warnings at your own peril. If you think his warnings of government tyranny are laughable, then you need to leave RPF and head on over to Hannity.com or wherever you feel warm and fuzzy. Because obviously EMOTIONS are guiding your world-view, and not thought.

This isn't a drone, it's a children's toy. . . .

And if it comes over the backyard with me getting out of the hot tub buck naked . . .
am I then arrested for exposing myself to an underage person . . . ?

But seriously . . . paparazzi would pay top dollar to rent the thing for . . . let's see, say a lewd shot
of some actress who wants to run for the US Senate in Kentucky.

And then, the sitting senior Senator would be probably willing to finance the paparazzi / drone pilot
for that smear shot to win re-election, as well.

Just saying . . . maybe every city council better consider the Charlottsville VA type ban of drones.

Dependent on type of drone, altitude, and wind conditions:

Helium balloons and a throw-net without the weights.

Kite with tail.

Line in the rotors seem to muck things up.

A potato/tennis-ball cannon should be convertible to cast a large loose net (4 small weights at corners of net, paper wad behind to propel smoothly).

Ugh, come on guys... just cause it's a drone doesn't mean it's malicious or run by some clandestine organization. I know drones of these type are used to shoot car footage, for example. The drone in the video is likely privately owned. I'm actually planning on building one of these myself, and it would suck if some paranoid individual destroyed my private property when these things are nothing more than remote controlled planes with cameras on them.

Don't fly it over anyone's property without permission, then you won't have anything to worry about.
