Current Events and FRONA

If you read a newspaper or watch TV news, one thing you’ll notice is how intrusive all forms of government are. Hardly a news story appears that doesn’t have some connection to a government bureaucracy in some way. Here is the story progression in an Atlanta news broadcast on Wednesday, March 13, 2013:
• New Pope elected
• Prisoners with cell phones
• Drive-by shooting
• Crime in neighborhoods and cops
• Governor fires county school board members, appoints new members
• Atlanta city parking tickets being fixed, city councilman threatens whistleblower
• Auto show
• Spring break scare story for parents
• Fannie Mae forecloses on Local veteran
• Police swat team tear gas a 15 year old at home
Just for fun, let’s look at each story and how different it would be handled in The Free Republic Of North America, or FRONA…that mythical land formed from the secession of an American state, where the government’s only task is to protect individual liberty and property rights.
• New Pope: A new Pope doesn’t really matter here in FRONA. But Catholics and all other religious organizations here in FRONA have gotten used to having no government-sponsored tax advantage. Because FRONA’s only revenue source is the 10% national sales tax, there is no IRS-like tax code. There are no property taxes on anyone’s property, so churches can’t get an exemption. Contributions made by individuals to religious organizations aren’t taxed until the organization spends money. So there is no charitable deduction anymore for ANYONE’s taxes. Now charitable organizations pay sales tax just like everybody else.
• Prisoners with Cell Phones: First about laws in FRONA. The possession and sale of recreational drugs in FRONA is legal. Prisons in FRONA will not be packed with men and women on drug charges, so there will be a drastically lower prison population. Prisoners will be those convicted of violent crime or fraud. Does incarceration automatically include being cut off from the outside world? Maybe, but what’s happening in American prisons right now is NOT working.
• Drive-by shooting: Much violent crime is drug-related. Much of the inner-city culture is drug-related. FRONA government doesn’t have ANY monetary benefits to people. So the welfare culture that supports the drug culture will dry up instantly. The prices of recreational drugs will go into free-fall because the black market no longer exists. Selling drugs for a living might not be all that attractive when the financial gain is not as great. Plus, in FRONA, there will be jobs going begging for workers. The Free Market left alone can sort this out.
• Crime in neighborhoods…and cops: Crime prevention is not a function of law enforcement officers. Preventing crime is everybody’s responsibility. In FRONA, there are no gun laws. Anyone may carry any kind of firearm anywhere within the borders of FRONA. When criminal types know that nearly everybody’s packing heat, crime will drop off the charts. And remember that in FRONA, every person age 18 to age 55 is a member of the FRONA Militia, and is REQUIRED to possess a fully automatic battle rifle and be proficient in its use. That might deter a lot of crime. Look at the crime rate in Switzerland…very low.
• Governor fires Dekalb County school board for incompetence and appoints others: In FRONA there are no government-owned and operated schools. There is no Department of Education. Education is the parent’s responsibility. Parents can home-school or send their children to a private or parochial school. Or not teach them anything.
• Atlanta parking tickets fixed, councilman threatens whistle-blower: Not sure if corruption at every level can ever be eliminated, but there is so much opportunity for graft, bribery and favors in the present system that the system is hopelessly broken in America. Starting over in FRONA gets rid of ALL of the old system and begins again.
• The Auto Show coming to town: In FRONA, the entire old American system is swept away, along with all the three-letter Federal agencies that regulate automakers. In FRONA, automakers can build whatever make and model auto they choose. Auto dealers can import and sell any vehicle they choose. The Free Market decides what sells and what does not. Example? Volkswagen builds a diesel auto in Europe that gets 90 mpg. They cannot sell it in the US because of Federal regulations. That won’t happen in FRONA.
• Spring Break scary story for parents: teen dove into pool, broken neck, paralyzed. Sorry…I don’t think the Free Republic of North America can fix the stupidity of youth.
• Fannie Mae foreclosure on local veteran: We don’t know why the foreclosure happened, but they usually happen when people stop paying their mortgage payments. In the story, the Army veteran says that he served for 20 years, like that is supposed to matter. In FRONA, there are no government agencies that have ANYTHING to do with housing.
• Police SWAT team tear-gas 15-year-old at home: Kid gets arrested for something, cuffed and placed in cruiser. Kid gets out of cuffs, steals cruiser and drives it HOME! Swat team descends on house like the thugs they are, gassing the house and dragging the kid out on camera. That house won’t be livable until a HAZMAT team cleans EVERYTHING, and the incident is likely not covered under the mom’s Homeowner policy. When the only tool you have is a big hammer, every problem is a nail. Cops only have violence as their tool. There was no evidence that this kid was a threat to the cops. The kid just refused to come out upon police demand. In FRONA, there will not be the plethora of stupid laws and ordinances like in America. Cops won’t have much to do, police forces will be MUCH smaller, police forces won’t be paramilitary soldiers. The kinds of people that LOVE to lord it over others as police officers will either have to move back to America or get over their insecurities and get a REAL job.
You see? Even the evening news will be different in the Free Republic of North America.
