All current federal drugs laws are in place to comply with UN mandates.

The Congressional findings in 21 USC §§ 801(7), 801a(2), and 801a(3) state that a major purpose of the CSA is to "enable the United States to meet all of its obligations" under international treaties – specifically, the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs and the 1971 Convention on Psychotropic Substances.[17] The CSA bears many resemblances to these Conventions. Both the CSA and the treaties set out a system for classifying controlled substances in several Schedules in accordance with the binding scientific and medical findings of a public health authority. Under 21 U.S.C. § 811 of the CSA, that authority is the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS). Under Article 3 of the Single Convention and Article 2 of the Convention on Psychotropic Substances, the World Health Organization is that authority.

This explains why the FedCoats were freaking out over the WA and CO initiatives.

Also explains why there can never seem to be any progress made at the Federal level on this.

Intolerable Acts!

Yeah, and also (as I'm sure you already know) all transportation of so-called Hazardous Materials are also governed by U.N. edict:

UN numbers range from UN0001 to about UN3500 and are assigned by the United Nations Committee of Experts on the Transport of Dangerous Goods. They are published as part of their Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, also known as the Orange Book.

Are you familiar with the new HAZMAT protocols that went in place on 1 Jan of this year, to comply with UN regs?

Major changes to the Hazard Communication Standard

Hazard classification: Provides specific criteria for classification of health and physical hazards, as well as classification of mixtures.
Labels: Chemical manufacturers and importers will be required to provide a label that includes a harmonized signal word, pictogram, and hazard statement for each hazard class and category. Precautionary statements must also be provided.
Safety Data Sheets: Will now have a specified 16-section format.
Information and training: Employers are required to train workers by December 1, 2013 on the new labels elements and safety data sheets format to facilitate recognition and understanding.

I had read a couple articles about it, but thanks for reminding me. I work for a small company, and I doubt my boss has even heard of it. At the very least, I've not been informed of any upcoming "training" events.

I'm not a fan of the current mountain of regulations pertaining to the transport of Hazardous Materials - not in the least - but at least the current labeling and placard system is fairly specific.

This current UN program is nothing but an immense dumbing down of the current system. If I didn't already know how asinine the Feds can be, I would swear some of this stuff is coming from some demented "Onion" news article. Now, there's no need to be educated. Can't read? Great! on't worry, we've "fixed" it: everything is going to have to have a simple pictogram on it!

It also makes me wonder if this isn't a hint of the direction the UN wants to take the world's population. No need to be literate, no sir. Just look at the labels and do what the pictures tell you to do.

Reminds me a bit of the movie Idiocracy.

Leave it to the Feds to take a cumbersome, onerous system and spend hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to transform it into an even LESS EFFECTIVE cumbersome and onerous system.

It should be remembered that nation-states were not always in existence, but eventually evolved into being. The logical conclusion would be a move toward a global government. The United Nations and the European Union are clearly the early predecessors to global government. No "conspiracy theorizing" is needed.
