White House press secretaries of the recent past have enjoyed relatively short lifespans,
particularly those serving in a second term.

Of the President’s 454 employees, Carney is one of 21 who receives the maximum salary of $172,000.
Good money, sure, but maybe one-sixth of what he could make working in “journalism” again.
Rumor has it that MSNBC is hiring former senior members of Team Obama, and the aforementioned CNN
(his former home via Time Warner) would sign Carney in a heartbeat. Given his prior (impressive/extensive) experience,
his salary would be north of seven figures.

It's amazing considering the media pretty much throws only softballs at him. For all the crap thrown her way, Dana Perino seemed to be ok.

Agreed. I don't like Bush, and I guess I don't like her because she was associated with him, but she really was excellent in her position.

Having to take questions that are thrown at you and frame them, not in your own words or knowledge, but in what your employer(administration)'s words or the knowledge they want known, can be pretty difficult.
