Rand Paul in the top 3 for Pennsylvania Republicans looking toward 2016...those kinds of numbers are a new development since last week

---------------------------------------------------------------------

update on poll results:

Santorum manages only a tie for fourth when it comes to who GOP voters in the state would like to see as their 2016 candidate. Chris Christie leads the way with 20% to 17% for Marco Rubio and Rand Paul, 10% for Santorum and Jeb Bush, 9% for Mike Huckabee, 6% for Paul Ryan, 4% for Bobby Jindal, and 1% for Rick Perry. Paul's doing much better than we've found in most of our 2016 polling other places, suggesting that his filibuster last week might have done him some good.

PPP surveyed 504 Pennsylvania voters, including an oversample of 373 usual Republican primary voters, from March 8th to 10th. The margin of error for the overall survey is +/-4.4%, and +/-5.1% for the GOP portion. This poll was not paid for or authorized by any campaign or political organization. PPP surveys are conducted through automated telephone interviews.

So he's surging nationally. I'd be more enthused if it were January 2016.

Watch Christie be first in PA.

You know what they say about PA. "Pittsburg at one end, Philly at the other and Alabama in between." Hell Yeah!
(Alabama that's a compliment:))

-Looking towards 2016 Hillary Clinton would be an overwhelming favorite in the state- she leads Paul Ryan (52/40), Marco Rubio (52/37), and Rick Santorum (55/38) all by double digit margins. Santorum is not popular in his home state, with 42% of voters rating him favorably to 46% with a negative opinion. That compares pretty unfavorably to Clinton's 55/35 in the state.

One other note related to the 2016 race in Pennsylvania- by a 44/38 margin voters think the state should continue giving all its electoral votes to the statewide winner, as opposed to divvying them up by Congressional District.

Rand straight up winning among men is nice to see. That gender gap will eventually have to be dealt with though.

Also, he's not winning among young people which is weird to see for a Paul.

Well, it was 18-45. That's a lot more than the youth vote.

Let's keep in mind that Republicans in the Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Erie metro areas tend to be more moderate and establishment oriented. Let's also keep in mind that they outnumber the rest of the state by large margins. Rand Paul will be a tough sell come primary time. He will be even more of a tough sell in the general election.

Ah, they caught me off guard with that, usually polls divide that into two demographics. Also, I guess you could say it's nice to see him stay mostly consistent across different ages.

Yeah, the Philly suburbs will be Christie country by a large margin. Rand Paul will do well in Alabama (the T) and maybe western PA (blue collar/coal). But keep in mind PA has a totally closed primary, which means only Republicans can vote. That would help Rand.

Chris Christie will run as a Dem or Inde. Hopefully Santorum doesn't run.

Santorum is going to run. Don't know if he will make it as far as PA, though.

When you can barely crack 10% in your own state, you probably shouldn't run. Him and Gingrich helped Obama more than anyone this year.

Excellent!

17% is a few points better than Ron Paul did in both 2008 and 2012...and there we're only 2 or 3 candidates left in the race at that point. Chances are good that PA will be irrelevant again in 2016, but still good news nonetheless.

Rand (all) - 17% (2t)
Rand (men) - 22% (1)
Rand (very conservative) - 23% (2)
Rand (somewhat conservative) - 20% (1t)
Rand (46-65) - 18% (1)

Interesting cross tabs. Rand appeals to all ages mostly evenly, but appeals to men much more than women.

Interesting that Santorum does better with women than men. But these numbers are meaningless, other than the fact that Rand will actually be a player.

Santorum plus Huckabee is 16%. That puts the social conservative vote right behind Rand.

I'll take it.

Christie must have the name recognition up there.

Remember, in PA delegates are selected directly. Let's do this!

How is Rubio still polling so well? He hasn't really done anything in the past few months. And Christie, isn't he the guy that betrayed Romney and helped him lose?

Does this mean Blandington J. Vanillaman is a HUNK? I shudder to think of women being into him, but I can't think of any actual political issue that would account for the gender discrepancy. *gag*

Governor Christie on top in Pennsylvania with Rand and Rubio tied for second
Rand better with men than Rubio by 22% to 18%, but with woman Rand behind Rubio . . . by 12% to 15%

By January 2016 we will be ahead of both Christie and Rubio, imho - with alot of work and getting the colleges involved.
