The fact that the government forbade this recording is, in my opinion, sufficiently good reason to give it a careful listen.

Indeed.

Via Glenn Greenwald, an illicit recording of Manning’s court statement last week.
[...]
Here is legendary Pentagon Papers whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg’s reaction to the leaked recording:

Whoever made this recording, and I don’t know who the person is, has done the American public a great service. This marks the first time the American public can hear Bradley Manning, in his own voice explain what he did and how he did it.

After listening to this recording and reading his testimony, I believe Bradley Manning is the personification of the word whistleblower.

…For the third straight year, Manning has been nominated for the Noble Peace Prize by, among others, Tunisian parliamentarians. Given the role the WikiLeaks cables played in the Arab Spring, and their role in speeding up the end of the Iraq War, I can think of no one more deserving who is deserving of the peace prize.

He’s also deserving of the Congressional Medal of Honor. This medal, awarded by Congress–and not the executive branch–is given to military personnel, who during wartime, do what they should do for their country and their comrades, at the greatest risk to themselves.

Wow. I'm amazed at this guy's resolve.

What really sucks is you'll never hear about this statement on CNN, MSNBC, FOX, or even NPR. These organizations are marching lock-step with the MIC.

Manning is gay? I didn't know that...

I began mid-tour leave on 23 January 2010, flying from Atlanta, Georgia to Reagan National Airport in Virginia. I arrived at the home of my aunt, Debra M. Van Alstyne, in Potomac, Maryland and quickly got into contact with my then boyfriend, Tyler R. Watkins. Tyler, then a student at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts, and I made plans for me to visit him him Boston, Massachusetts [missed word].

I was excited to see Tyler and planned on talking to Tyler about where our relationship was going and about my time in Iraq. However, when I arrived in the Boston area Tyler and I seemed to become distant. He did not seem very excited about my return from Iraq. I tried talking to him about our relationship but he refused to make any plans.

Don't be a jerk, Obama's just playing chess and you're too dumb to recognize that. :p (Okay, that's not funny.)

In Leaked Court Recording, Army Whistleblower Tells His Story for First Time (http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article34277.htm)

Today, Freedom of the Press Foundation is publishing the full, previously unreleased audio recording of Private First Class Bradley Manning’s speech to the military court in Ft. Meade about his motivations for leaking over 700,000 government documents to WikiLeaks. In addition, we have published highlights from Manning’s statement to the court.

While unofficial transcripts of this statement are available, this marks the first time the American public has heard the actual voice of Manning.

Yea, I listened to the entire statement. Amazing that they were trying to suppress this... Probably the best thing one could hope for under NDAA - good luck having someone sneak in a recording device if you're not a high profile case.

He is actually transgendered. But we can't have news reports mention that cause that would make Obama look even worse in this whole issue ( to the LBGT community). If holding someone for whistle blowing without a trial wasn't already bad enough.
