I don't actually know much about Huckabee. He said some reasonable things during the Chick Fila controversy nonsense (I don't care that much about SSM itself but once it gets into punishing private business owners for freedom of speech it gets ridiculous) but I suspect if I looked deeper he wouldn't be too far off from a regular Republican. What are his views on other important stuff?

Huckabee is pretty much Santorum. Pro-war, pro-big government, probably the most pro-Israel presidential candidate of the past decade...

He does sound a lot more reasonable than Santorum, though.

What are his views on other important stuff?Pretty much a social conservative. Which is to say a progressive that wants government to force people to behave socially conservatively.

Still, it takes all kinds and I welcome his praise. There is a lot of common ground to be had here, but don't believe that just because someone can support us, it means they support the cause of liberty in its entirety.

Great to hear Huckabee's coming over.

Huck did endorse Rand in 2010, albeit in the wrong state.

lol this was quite funny:

Rand Paul, as of this writing, is running for senate in Kentucky, not Alaska. This situation--like all others in politics--remains fluid, of course.

Pretty much a social conservative. Which is to say a progressive that wants government to force people to behave socially conservatively.

Still, it takes all kinds and I welcome his praise. There is a lot of common ground to be had here, but don't believe that just because someone can support us, it means they support the cause of liberty in its entirety.

Not sure what you mean by "Socially conservative" but assuming you mean stuff like abortion, gay marriage, conservative views on other "Sexual" issues like prostitution, porn, exc. anti-drug, that kind of thing.... I'd actually agree with them on abortion, other than that I think they don't go far enough, although I also realize government can't truly solve the problem, they can only punish the murderers once caught, rare though that may be. But I wish Republicans would support some actual penalty for the action (I'd prefer a murder charge but I'll even take something lesser as long as its substantial) rather than beating around the bush. Until then, I don't really put the issue into my index of consideration since I know the GOP is just playing us. On the other issues I would definitely agree with the "Standard" libertarian positions (Get government out of marriage, legalize all victimless sexual actions between adults, allow adults to use any drugs they want) but I consider these issues a little less important than fiscal, foreign, and civil liberty (The distinction I'm making, which may be different than the distinction some other people make, is that "Socially conservative" refers to wanting to enforce conservative morals on issues like the ones I described above. "Civil liberties" by contrast, refers to things like gun rights, absolute protection of free speech [No, "Hate speech" restrictions] No anti-liberty laws to "Combat terrorism" like Patriot Act, TSA, NDAA, exc.). I could tolerate a candidate getting the social stuff wrong if he got foreign policy, fiscal policy, and civil liberties close to right or right. Doubly so if that candidate supported said social conservative agenda in a constitutional, states' rightish type of way.

I've gotten three different answers to the Huckabee question, so I'll have to look him up some more. I know Laurence Vance called him a warmongerer, but then, Vance calls everyone a warmongerer;) and all that that tells me for certain is that he doesn't support Ron Paul's foreign policy. Based on that "Most pro-Israel in America" comment I'm just guessing that he isn't even really close ther. I'm not totally anti-Israel but I am totally anti-intervention, and I would never support someone who supports the degree of involvement with Israel that we have today at the national level. Huckabee sounds like he should probably stick to state-level politics.

You can watch it embedded on facebook, and if someone clicks I would hope they'd be savvy enough to just removed the "m." part of the url to watch it properly.

As long as Rand is getting exposure I'm happy :)

Over 4x more people are talking about him now than any other time before the filibuster on Facebook. Other than maybe the President, I don't think anyone is being talked about more on Facebook. I don't think anyone is being discussed more than Rand, right now.
