View Full Version : PORN TO BE BANNED IN EUROPE?

The European Parliament is preparing to vote on a proposal to ban all forms of pornography.

A report detailing the ban was prepared by the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality.

Embedded under Article 17 of the report is a clause that, if eventually made into law, would effectively ban pornography across all types of media, including the Internet, in Europe.

Two years ago, the Icelandic Parliament – led by female prime minister Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir - successfully banned all strip clubs on the grounds that they violated the civil rights of the women who worked there and were harmful to society.

This argument - that porn violates the rights of both women who appear in it and children who are exposed to it - is the cornerstone of the new proposals under discussion.

Well at least Iceland got the banking thing right :/

The worst thing about this is that no serious public figure could oppose such a law, without losing all their credibility. Imagine the ridicule you'd recieve for "fighting for porn", even though it's really about a much broader philosophical topic.

Their first recourse would be accessing American pr0n sites through the easiest method (direct access if possible or proxies if necessary). It will kill the industry in Europe though, so I think Europeans trying to make money off it will likely start up more darknet sites like Silk Road.

If we're lucky, the increased darknet activity might lead to more heavily researched and developed anonymizing protocols resistant to more threat models. The holy grail would be an onion routing protocol with such secure randomized/delayed packet routing and randomized/delayed dummy recipient forwarding that an omnipresent one world government observer with access to every ISP and perfect coordination still couldn't determine who is talking to whom, even after continuous long-term two-way communication. I suppose it would require an enormous amount of bandwidth and dummy packets to make the system resistant to timing and statistical attacks by an omnipresent observer though...and we'd also need to find a new key exchange protocol that eliminated man-in-the-middle attacks. At that point, encryption would probably just be outlawed. ...man, omnipresent surveillance is a really tough problem to solve.

Fortunately, a large body of literature has already been published on this subject, so you just have to cite previous studies. You can make the "pro-porn" argument effectively this way. "Defending Pornography" by Nadine Strossen is a good start for those interested.

Fighting for porn and obviously doing it for money from the dirty money of the porn lobbying industry.

The sad fact of the matter that all money is dirty money. But hardly anyone, especially socialists, see it that way. Oh you're a bricklayer who does honest work? Yeah I bet you charged 50% more than one of your competitors did to build some innocent old lady a fence. You earned dirty money. Oh you're the cheapest in town and can barely afford to feed yourself? Yeah well there are bricklayers in botswana who are out of a job and get paid less than you and still die because they can't afford proper nutrition or healthcare. Your lack of morals and absurd profit advantage makes it dirty money. Oh you gave a woman 5 grand to video tape her and another man having sex for an hour? Your lack of morals and absurd profit make it dirty money.

Whoever got the populace thinking like this at large is an absolute genius. When you have an entire population that refuses to take an iota of economic advantage anywhere to the point where they're barely sustaining themselves, they are NEVER going to compete with you in any shape or form by trying to open a business and gasp maybe make 100% profit on an item once in a while.

When no one wants to do that, then you'll have excess of labor supply where everyone just wants to be an order taker collecting a wage, and everyone will cost really cheap to hire, and you can make them fight tooth and nail over 10 euros an hour.

I don't see how any woman with some self-respect could support those clowns in their effort(s). How insecure do they have to be to constantly paint themselves as helpless victims of the patriarchy? Guess what, if that's how you want to see reality you are going to be a victim, and it's nobody's fault but your own.

What a sad utilization of lifetime to devote one's carrier to justifying the states "equlizing" aggression in the name of "feminism". I also can't think of a more useless way to waste tax money.

Do you believe those women in that comitee are conservative, not liberal? It's the "Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality" of the European Parliament! Neither do I believe they would ever identify themselves as conservative, nor do I see how their proposal is everything but leftist.

Or do I misunderstand you? In that case I'm sorry. (I'm not talking about their looks, though, just their political beliefs.)

I'm not sure I believe the story. Like Hollywood, they probably want to make sure that they can control it. Theaters, DVD, On-demand are probably exempt.

On the other hand, wasn't there a thread about illegal drugs, illegal guns and pornography being done by the same people? They are probably lobbying to make it illegal in Europe. Just another activity that makes more money (for some) when it is illegal. We need to make gambling illegal too. And alcohol prohibition, that worked! What else can we turn into a crime? 32 ounce sodas? OK, now that would just be crazy talk. But we may need house to house searches to make sure that people don't have 32 ounce containers in their homes. They might fill up at home. Combining two 16 oz sodas into a single container is dangerous!

It is the same issue as drugs. There is a huge difference between telling your children not to do something or not doing something yourself, and making laws about it. Violating rights of people who do something voluntarily? Is that like walking into a marijuana clinic and telling them that their rights are violated by smoking pot? It's the opposite.

Hold on, it's clear now. This is Orwellian double-speak. Taking away rights is being calling protecting rights.

The point is, ladies and gentleman, that porn, for lack of a better word, is good. Porn is right, porn works. Porn clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Porn, in all of its forms; porn for life, for money, for love, knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind. And porn, you mark my words, will not only save EU, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA. Thank you very much.

No way that this would pass into law.Prostitution is legal in most of Europe and countries like Italy,Hungary,Czech republic and France that make most of the porn would never allow porn to be banned.

Also the EU is cutting its budget (and not the USA way but 3,5% on the base budget ) so there is no way they will approve of some new regulatory agencies and departments when they have to cut existing programs. And with election season coming next year I doubt any government would be stupid enough to take on this crusade.

What a hypocritical continent (not that North America and the U.S. does not have a world of problems too).

France has no prob with its "leaders" having a second, secret family or cheating on their wives. Italy elects porn stars to their parliament. Yet they want to ban porn?

In the U.S., porn is protected by the First Amendment and basically accepted outside of the religious right (and they just don't admit watching it), but all hell breaks loose if a politician here has a roving eye.

Porn isn't fully protected by the 1st amendment. Almost every state bans production of it by considering it prostitution (aside from CA, NH, NV who explicitly legalized it and FL that doesn't enforce their ban) and a few even limit sale of it (but no state has an absolute ban).

While at a state level, I am in favor of banning porn production, I think what the EU is doing here is not only going too far by banning possession but also severely violating the national sovereignty of EU states.

I agree, but I go a step further in wondering why people look at sex as something wrong to begin with. It's completely natural or else it wouldn't be built into us, yet many people want to hide it away and are ashamed of their own natural sexual desires. It's even worse when these same people condemn others for acting like sluts or whores, leading the women to lose their status and social reputation. No wonder so many women are afraid of being sexually open.

And seriously, if you want your mind to be blown, watch this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?nomobile=1&v=okZEvv5-thY).
