Twitter: ‘Over a million tweets sent’ about Rand Paul filibuster (http://dailycaller.com/2013/03/07/twitter-over-a-million-tweets-sent-about-rand-paul-filibuster/#ixzz2MxHJD1oM)

Twitter reported (http://blog.twitter.com/2013/03/onlyontwitter-mr-paul-goes-to.html) Thursday afternoon on its blog that more than a million tweets were sent during Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul’s near-13 hour filibuster on the Senate floor Wednesday, placing the conversation almost on par with the 1.36 million tweets sent about President Barack Obama’s most recent State of the Union address.

Paul took to the Senate floor at approximately 11:47 a.m. EST to filibuster the Senate’s confirmation vote of White House adviser John Brennan as the new head of the CIA, pending an explanation from the White House as to whether it believes President Barack Obama could justifiably use domestic drone strikes to execute American citizens without due process.

If this happens again we need a twitter army to be prepared to tweet all of the key statements as they occur. I know it was happening to some extent during the filibuster but I think a focused core tweeting the statements live in a blow by blow will really light a fire in the twitterverse.

#StandWithRand is still going strong - when all is said and done it will exceed the SOTU in popularity, on Twitter at least.

This was a truly extraordinary event.

Good to see that "a few spammers" were paying attention.

Great quote here from DemocraticUnderground.com in response to the twitter explosion:

"my right wing brother and nephew fell for the showboat. It's really embarrassing."

Woohooo!

Lol over on DU they're comparing Rand to Hitler. Said it wouldn't surprise them if a president Paul appointed David Duke as SOS.

Hitler gave himself the power to kill his citizens, Obama claims the same power, Rand fights it yet somehow he's the hitler?

Lol, gotta love partisan democrat rhetoric.

I'm sure O'reilly has the technology to find out how a few Paul fans have been spamming twitter. Maybe that's why he's been silent, he's working on a big exposé.

Absolutely! Everyone should create a twitter account. You can use the same alias you use here (if you want). This is the next big political tool. If you aren't on Twitter right now, you aren't on the internet. It takes time to build your network of connections, so the sooner, the better. If you put your twitter account in your sig line here, other RPF members can follow you.

It would be interesting to see the positive to negative split on the filibuster tweets. I bet positives far outweigh the negative.

It seems most people who were against the filibuster had to wait until the next morning so they could read the Wall Street Journal before making comments.

Very few negative, because the hashtag was "stand" with Rand. If you just searched on "Rand Paul", then you would see some negative comments, many from open Marxists. People on Twitter don't have to keep their Marxism (reformed or not) hidden, like they do in the media.
