I think this discussion has mostly been settled, but i'll post anyways since the headline is pretty funny.

Rand Paul has held it in for 13 hours, his office says

U.S. CAPITOL–Sen. Rand Paul, objecting to the notion that the U.S. government can assassinate U.S. citizens on U.S. soil posing no imminent threat, has been holding the Senate floor for 13 hours at this point.

He hasn’t left the floor the whole time. So here’s the question: what about going to the bathroom.

Here’s the answer I got from two Paul staffers: he’s simply held it in. He didn’t get fitted with a catheter. He didn’t put on an adult diaper. He has simply held it in.

Rand's a doctor, if he wanted to break the record i'm sure he could have done it with a device to empty his bladder and maybe prescribe himself something speedy like Ritalin.

It would have been epic if he kept it up all day Thursday until he got an answer and there are ways he could have lasted

there were senators back in the day who would have a guy come up to them with a bucket so they could just pee.

Thurmond began speaking at 8:54 p.m. and didn't quit until 9:12 the next evening. It was the longest filibuster in Senate history.

Aides tried to avoid defeat by the toilet by setting up a bucket in the cloakroom where Thurmond could pee, keeping one foot on the Senate floor while doing so.

Rand Paul: I Decided Against Using Catheter During Filibuster

DAVID TAINTOR 10:51 AM EST, THURSDAY MARCH 7, 2013

Asked by Glenn Beck Thursday whether he considered using a catheter during his long filibuster of CIA director nominee John Brennan, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), who is a doctor, said he decided against it.

"I did think about it," Paul said in an interview. "I've put them in before, but I really decided against it."

Paul ended his filibuster at 12:39 a.m. Thursday, saying, "I've discovered there are some limits to filibustering, and I'm going to have to take care of one of those in a few minutes."

I have it on good authority that he didn't have anything to drink during his filibuster.

He was drinking water during the filibuster.

ETA: I am sure he didn't drink too much though. I watched him pick up his cup a couple times over the hours I had it on.
