I'm a very interested party in this particular incident, as I was in the building at the time. My first corporate job!

I really can't come up with a better answer than coastie provided above.

As an interesting side note, I was being paid hourly at that job. When I got my paycheck, I was paid up to the minute the bomb went off.

Of course. It's not about giving back any excess money. It's about spending all they have, so their budget isn't cut, b/c they might even cut their job out.
