I hope this is the right subforum to post this. You know how the Obama administration officially responds to petitions if they receive enough signatures (over 100,000, if I remember right)? Well, I think a petition to change the lyrics to the National Anthem would be appropriate at this time. Here's a quick stab at it, but other suggestions are more than welcome:

Oh, say can we see, both by night and by day,
There is nowhere to hide, from our all-seeing cameras
Whose wide lenses catch all of the things that you do
O'er the people we watch, as the data keeps streaming.
Disobey if you dare, as drones fly through the air
We'll prove to you all, for your "rights" we don't care
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the sheep and the home of the slave?

DARPA researchers toil o'er many months and long years
To create the tools that will crush all your freedoms
From our loyal enforcers there is nowhere to run
Your movements are tracked, might as well give up your guns
Now the NYPD with its terahertz beam
Can see through your clothes as you walk down the street
All hail to the Homeland! We must always obey
In the land of the sheep and the home of the slave!

In this land we desire to be safe and not free
Because "we're at war," and eternal it shall be
Terrorists are lurking beneath everyone's beds
Get down on your knees, and bow to the feds
No one else can save all you hirelings and slaves
But dare to rebel, you will dig your own grave
And the star-spangled banner in triumph will wave
O'er the land of the sheep and the home of the slave.

O, thus be it ever when freemen shall die,
Inside their lov'd homes, as the SWAT teams burn them down
We will kick in your doors, we will shoot all your dogs
Praise the pow'r that hath made us your almighty masters
Then conquer we must, we'll decide what is just,
And this be our motto: "In the dollar we trust"
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the sheep and the home of the slave!

I'd actually love to see our national anthem changed to something else. The one we have now is too physically demanding for most Americans to sing (range), glorifies warfare, and is set to the tune of a drinking song.

It glorifies the defense of liberty from tyranny. and what's wrong with being set to the tune of a drinking song?

I was thinking about this the other day actually.

The Star-Spangled Banner is ok, but I prefer the Battle Hymn of the Republic tbh

You might find it hard to get consensus on the Battle Hymn of the Republic.

No, it glorifies war and state-worship (the flag being an obvious symbol of The State). You know that song is about an unnecessary war, yes?
