Former White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Sunday he was ordered never to acknowledge the existence of the U.S. unmanned drone program by an administration that prided itself on transparency.

Gibbs said on MSNBC the still-secretive drone program meant he had to duck reporter questions he knew were perfectly accurate.

“One of the first things they told me was, you’re not even to acknowledge the drone program, you are not even to discuss that it exists,” Gibbs said. “I would get a question like that…once I figured out it was about the drone program, I realized I’m not supposed to talk about it.”

“Here’s what’s inherently crazy about that proposition: you’re being asked a question based on reporting of a program that exists, so you’re the official government spokesperson acting as if, the entire program — ‘pay no attention to the man behind the curtain,’” he said.

Gibbs, who was a senior adviser to President Barack Obama’s 2012 campaign, opined that the U.S.’s “denial of the existence of the program when it’s obviously happening undermines people’s confidence overall in the decisions that their government makes.”

Rand is still waiting for a response to his questions regarding the drone program before Brennan is allowed to be confirmed.

They're ignoring the questions of a United States senator duly elected by the people of Kentucky.

Sickening.

I hope Rand's senate colleagues will stand with him until they answer his damn questions and STOP ignoring Congress.

The White House is saying they will release information relating to Benghazi but will not answer Rand's questions on the drone program.

Democrats need to stand with Rand and not allow this man to be confirmed until there are answers.

Was there any mention of the drone program and Brennan on the Sunday shows?

I highly doubt it...some how... the media are not interested in telling the TRUTH.

Robert Gibbs, President Barack Obama's former press secretary, says that he was once instructed by the White House not to acknowledge the administration's use of drones.

"When I went through the process of becoming press secretary, one of the first things they told me was, you're not even to acknowledge the drone program," Gibbs said on MSNBC's "Up With Chris Hayes" on Sunday. "You're not even to discuss that it exists."
Or, to paraphrase an oft-quoted line from David Fincher's 1999 film "Fight Club": The first rule of the drone program is you do not talk about the drone program.

Gibbs, who was recently hired by MSNBC as a contributor, called the proposition "inherently crazy."

"You're being asked a question based on reporting of a program that exists," Gibbs, who served as White House press secretary from 2009 to 2011, said. "So you're the official government spokesperson acting as if the entire program—pay no attention to the man behind the curtain."

Obama's former spokesman said that while the administration has recently expressed the need to be more transparent about its use of drones, certain aspects of that program are "highly sensitive" and will likely remain secret.

“I have not talked to him about this, so I want to be careful," Gibbs said, "but I think what the president has seen is, our denial of the existence of the program when it’s obviously happening undermines people’s confidence overall in the decisions that their government makes.”

but until that point, it's the way to go, right?

Interesting article....and also interesting to read the comments just attacking Obama and liberals, when last week they found Rumsfield's notes on "how are we going to link 9/11 or anthrax to Iraq so we can invade".

And all the comments just ripped on Bush and said those guys need to be tried for treason etc.

*SIGH*

President Bush and Obama are just passing the relay and probably hi-fiving each other once they pass the baton. How are these guys different?

Yet is the public really so blind? Are they really? Do the liberals ignore the truth presented to them? Do the conservatives ignore the truth as well? Are they so busy blaming each other they miss the bigger picture?

That's the whole point. It's the reason for the fake two party charade.
