Do any states in the union have state senators that represent a geographic area rather than population?

In Iowa, two House seats are combined to create one Senate seat. How is it done in other states? If both deliberative bodies of a bicameral legislature represent the people based on population is that not ridiculously redundant?

Redundancy is something government does best.

Senators here represent 1 million people + now. No particular reason why our districts are drawn the way they are.

What other way would they be ? Elected by the cities in their districts?
