City seeks grant for delinquency program (http://www.dailytribune.net/news/article_0d3b1282-7cb3-11e2-86c7-001a4bcf887a.html)

Lets do a little math here (bureaucrats love numbers but hate math). Lets say 5% of students are absent every school day. In a district of 1.5K thats about 75 students. A third of those will be in K-4. Not exactly a crime threat. That leaves us with 50 students. Lets say 90% of those absences are actually legitimate. That leaves us with 5 students who may or may not pose a criminal threat. A crime spree waiting to happen, no doubt!

The grant, if approved would pay $60,015 for the position of the new officer for one year, he said; of that, $52,400 would be for the salary.

The Mount Pleasant Police Department identified four crime types that could be associated with juvenile offenders during school calendar days. These crimes are residential burglary, motor vehicle burglary, criminal mischief and theft,” he said.

“Of these four crime types, 629 of them were committed Monday thru Friday between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. when various schools were in session,” he continued. “Most of these offenses are unsolved. Without arrests, suspect descriptions and age, suspects cannot be determined nor does the police department believe all the listed crimes were committed by juveniles.

Really??? And you wonder why these people can't balance budgets? Adult criminals are not far more likely to commit crime like theft, burglary, or stealing a car?
