One more poll. :)

Why does it have to be all good or all bad?

Overall, I think he is far better than what the alternative was, which was Dewhurst. I know I'm not going to agree with him on everything, but, I will support his actions that I agree with and I will denounce those which I do not. I also did not agree with Ron Paul on everything.

Positive. He's from Texas, so how could he possibly be pro-pot, pro-marriage (or at least tolerant of gays), anti-war, etc.

(otherwise known as Libertarian or exactly what John Jay Myers campaigned on)

I'm not going to vote. There's still a slight chance that he'll turn out well since he hasn't really voted on anything yet. But I have no expectations.

I didn't like some things he said when he debated the democrat opponent before the election. I don't like even more things he's said since then. But I'll wait until he starts voting like a big govt rethuglican before I totally denounce him.

Wait, you guys seriously think Kucinich is better than Ted Cruz?

Also, why is there no neutral option on this poll? That might be leading people who are on the fence to vote negative.

For the Cruz haters, please show me his bad voting record.

Yeah, I should've included it. I don't think it allows you to go back and redo the poll.

positive from what i've seen so far, however i'm still pretty skeptical on how his foreign policy fleshes out. if he ends up being extremely hawkish, my opinion will turn negative. i really liked his presentation at the gun control judiciary hearing, though.

Bizarre, isn't it? Guess there's just a group of people here who care only about anti-war issues, and as long as you're anti-war you can be a socialist and still be cool with them.

Most people on here don't know anything about specific politicians beyond general perceptions. This is why Kucinich will score higher than Cruz. The fact is, though, that Cruz is a Federalist through-and-through like Lee (both were essentially born into it). Cruz, especially, was exposed to Ron Paul early-on, and has been a constitutionalist since his teens. Cruz will vote 100% fiscal conservative. Cruz will vote against NDAA, CISPA, SOPA, etc. Cruz is unflinching on social issues, guns, school choice, health care, immigration. Cruz will audit (and more) the Fed. Cruz is also the perfect combination of libertarianism and conservatism into constitutional conservatism, and he can be the nominee if he seeks it.

But still, a liberal Democrat who opposes the Fed and is good on civil rights (but a socialist in every regard) is obviously, on balance, much better than Cruz, according to this forum.

I don't trust Cruz at all.

The poll results are looking better now.

I'm glad people are realizing that Cruz is an ally on civil liberties, foreign aid, monetary policy, fiscal policy and humanitarian intervention instead of just judging him on his Israel stance.

I'm fine with Cruz. Sure, he can be abrasive and smarmy, but we need more senators like him. Every movement needs a hatchet man and Cruz doesn't mind mixing it up.

Bump.

I think if this poll was taken now, we'd see it a lot less split and more in the positive direction. He won me over during the filibuster.

War is not the only abuse of state power. But it is absolutely the most serious. I mean, what's worse, mass theft or mass murder? I think people are right to care about war the most. Doesn't mean you vote for the anti-war, otherwise sucking candidate, but you shouldn't vote for the pro-war, otherwise solid candidate either. War is a HUGE issue, and to me being anti-war at least as a broad generalization is absolutely essential for me to even consider giving someone access to any kind of power.

Ted Cruz did great during the filibuster. I haven't researched him much or seen much of him outside of that. The prospects are good that he is an ally to what needs to happen.
