PRINCE EDWARD, VA (WWBT) - Prince Edward sheriff's deputies are investigating a deadly home invasion that happened early Sunday morning in Prospect. Two of the three suspects are dead, shot by the homeowner in self defense, according to investigators on scene. Meanwhile, the search continues for the third suspect.

This situation began unfolding at about 4:30 a.m. in the 5000 block of Prince Edward Highway, or Route 460. Investigators told NBC12's Kelly Avellino three unknown men forced their way in the front door of the home, where a man was alone with a 2-year-old child.

According to a press release issued by Sheriff Wesley W. Reed, that man called 911 to report a home invasion and said the suspects were armed. Reed also said gunfire was exchanged between the suspects and the caller.

Authorities said two suspects were pronounced dead at the scene, while the third managed to escape on foot.

We're told the homeowner and the child were not harmed.

Right now, there is a vague description of that third suspect, who is believed wearing dark clothing. According to Reed, K-9 units tracked the suspect a quarter of a mile west of the crime scene. It was there, investigators say, the suspect is believed to have gotten into a vehicle.

A Virginia State Police spokesperson had previously confirmed to NBC12 they were working with the Prince Edward Sheriff's Department on this investigation.

The two deceased suspects were transported to the medical examiner's office for identification and confirmation of cause of death.

We need to restrict the responsible gun owners like shown above, you can clearly see what happens when they use their guns, they use these excuses like "protecting their way of life and liberty and that of their own and their families, makes me sick.

BANS NOW!

Seriously, he could have at least waited 15 minutes or more for them to show up. All he had to do was lock himself and the child in a room and just pray until the cops get there. Heck maybe leave out some money or the small child and the perps might just take that and leave.

I am a supporter of gun control but here I have no problem with a homeowner defending his life, family, and property from individual who choose to be disrespectful of others and choose to take the easy way out.

This guy gets it.

That's what I'm thinking. Two people died for no good reason.

Want to give rep for your comment, but I need to spread reps first.

Those two will show up in statistics on gun deaths that the Fascists will use in the attempt to seize our arms.

What's your point? Those statistics help to study gun violence.

This is a strange night in these forums. I'm hoping this is sarcasm happening here. If me and my wife got our home invaded by three men at 4:30 in the morning, and we had a gun, my wife would think I was out of my damn mind if I told her we should hide in the closet because I don't want to help the gun grabbers statistics by using it and having it all over the news. Wouldn't you be more concerned about a becoming a statistic? Hell, if we didn't have a gun, my wife would grab the damn alarm clock and attempt to beat them to death with it before she'd hide in the closet and hope they were "negotiable." You really think you can barter with people brazen enough to do something like that?

I study gun violence by reading The Armed Citizen in the front of American Rifleman every month.I will bet you any amount you choose that this story will end up there.

Heck yeah I am going to barter, have you not heard these criminals got the best drugz. We have the police for a reason, they are they to serve and protect the shit out of us. Just wait by the phone, talk irrational that way you sound really good for tv and get a few more minutes of airtime. Maybe tell them they can have a few minutes with the misses, who knows. As long as we let the government take care of us everything will be A OK!

Obviously the home owner only needed two shots. A five round capacity limit would be fine.

I don't know why he would need any. Everyone knows that merely racking an empty shotgun makes intruders run like sissies.

But, but, but... In some SOCIALIST states, that would be "brandishing a weapon". A VERY serious crime in states without a castle doctrine or a weak one or just fascist cops (like everywhere...)

One night a burglar knocked over a vase in the living room. Had to go out there with the shot gun. Fired five rounds of buck, but the damn burglar was too fast and got away. At least that's the story the wife heard. Fluffy, the cat burglar, never came around again.

Considering the love of dogs on this forum, I suspect after shooting the intruder forum members would bury the criminal in the back yard and never call the dog killers.

Isn't Prince Edward County in VA the same place where the cops raided a mayor's house and shot both his dogs because they got the wrong address?

In that case, it's a good thing he DIDN'T wait for the cops.
