Strange that he would say something like that. Why would he say that to the hostages?

Yeah, Dorner made the decision to not have a trial when he shot himself in the head.

Yeah because it was better than his other two choices:
a) Get burned alive
b) Get shot by cops

Also, isn't there a claim that they locked him in? I don't know much about that though.

Wasn't that in the manifesto he allegedly wrote? Something about getting his name back. Seems he felt dishonored by what the LAPD did to him, so to get back his honor he decided to become a murderer. Doesn't really make sense, but the rational of depressed, suicidal people rarely makes sense.

If his depressed, suicidal rationale made perfect sense, it would just get drowned out by all the trigger happy, homicidal people that outnumber him in the LAPD.

c) Instead of running inside the cabin from police and subsequently opening fire on them, surrender to the police.

Right. Like in Waco. The cops sounded very reasonable over the scanner talking to each other. No reason to think they wouldn't be just as polite with you if you just open the door....

LOL if you are accused of killing a cop, do you think it would be safe to surrender to them? If a Cop drunkingly tries to rape you, and you shoot him, guess what, you are a cop killer and will be shot on sight. Cops don't let "cop killers" whether innocent or not walk free. They "take care of their own"

This was not a man who was planning on surrendering if trapped in a conflagration, both literally and figuratively. He knew what would happen to him if the Los Angeles Pig Department captured him alive (donut's chance in hell), so his goal was to cause as much disruption and kill as many cops as he could. He wanted revenge. He wanted to expose them for who they are, and he wanted the world to see it. No one who writes a manifesto such as his does so without knowing there was no turning back, and a self-inflicted shot to the head was more honorable than incarceration by the very same hands that ruined his life and the lives of others.

The fact that the police chose to burn him alive just furthers his point that they're simply another gang playing by their own rules, bound by no others. They have the benefit of getting away with crime when it's in the name of perverted justice.

Beware, the tide's a'rising
in the city of brotherly love.
The blood red lights were a'flashin
as the cellars rose up in a flood.
And as they dragged you from the depths of mud, they beat you while you were down.
And then they tossed you in jail for a hundred years:
save a city, burn it down.
And that's what they said
as they tore your homes
to the ground.

And when I was seven in surburban heaven,
the teachers and elders and police...
they'd cover my ears so I wouldn't hear
the gunshots soar through those city streets.
And if anyone questioned the liberty bomb,
or why the timers were even wound,
a scolding they'd earn, and so we soon learned:
to save a city, you burn it down.
And that's what they said
as they burned their
homes to the ground.

So many people and so many lives.
So many keep silent so they can survive.
Respect
slaughtering cops and the politicians they laud,
or the gavels will crush your home
and you'll be expected to applaud.

So the crime was a trip to the market.
The sentence, a lifetime of hurt,
as she saw through tears,
her home of thirty of years
reduced to rubble and dirt.
And she cursed those who would approach her
and hold papers up to her face, and say,
"You should feel blessed you live in the U.S.
and not some other hellish place."

So take heed if you live in the city
in a part where the tourists won't tread.
And beware if you maintain resistance
and choose not to be one of the led.
And if you're out in suburban gardens,
don't let them plant lies deep in your head,
'cause you too could come home to no home
or to find your family dead.

'Cause they've got this dream of a city
where no community unity can be found.
So stand up and save your neighborhood.
Fuck the city, burn it down(x3)
