Lobbyists for the "drone caucus" in Congress are pushing this as an economic opportunity for the states involved but this could create significant controversy when the states are selected.

I believe this could be a tremendous opportunity for the liberty movement especially in the states selected. We can setup websites, organize petitions, push anti-drone legislation and hold rallies.

In short the Feds are giving us a populist cause to rally around which will help us spread the message.

I'm not sure the public will buy into domestic drones especially if the CIA are claiming the power to kill Americans with them and we could see some push back on this issue especially when it comes to privacy.

What do you think?

I think they are violating our 4th amendment rights and should be shot down in self defense.

I think you are 100% correct. Washington State is a good example of bi-partisan support on this issue and I would highly encourage everyone to take this suggestion very seriously.

Please bump this thread if you agree! +rep

SEATTLE (AP) — A new bill introduced by a Republican lawmaker in Olympia would put strict restrictions on how law enforcement agencies and state departments can buy and deploy aerial drones.

Rep. David Taylor's proposal was introduced Friday, a day after Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn ordered the city's police department to abandon its nascent drone program, which had received approval from the Federal Aviation Administration but was awaiting the go-ahead from the City Council...

Taylor's bill immediately gained the backing of the Washington state chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, which spearheaded the opposition to Seattle police drones...

So far Taylor's bill has only Republican backers, but that's expected to change. Across the country, opposition to the use of domestic drones has come from opposite sides of the political spectrum, including civil liberties advocates and those worried about government intrusion.

Full Story: http://www.seattlepi.com/news/article/Wash-proposal-restricts-buying-deploying-drones-4264167.php

Add: I spoke to Rep Taylor's office to find out what was going on with the gun control issue in WA because, as we are seeing around the country, the states that are introducing gun nullification legislation from the right (Rep. Taylor sponsored the WA state bill for nullification) are being countered on the left with state gun control legislation.) The good news for Washington State, I'm told, is that the gun control bill has no chance of passing because of the republican-controlled state senate. Then we discussed the subject of drones, since Rep. Taylor also introduced that legislation, and I was told it would require the issuance of a warrant.

I'm certain CA will be one and Feinstein will be thrilled.

I am for once happy of my state, the part that won't show up for this, who vote for all the entitlements doesn't deny the fact that civil liberties are viewed as almost a holy mission here - when they are paying attention. We may get it, but I'm fairly sure we won't take it quietly.

Do you have access to anything that could shoot down a drone flying at 17k feet? I sure don't.

I think Florida will be one, since Jacksonville was recently announced as a drone center.

It depends on what type of drone but some of the smaller surveillance drones aren't always flying that high.

Are there any plans for activists to push for anti-drone legislation in TX?

A few hundred people shining their green or violet laserpointers up at it would be an interesting sight to behold. You know, those handy little ones that they make in China that you can buy whenever you feel the need to remotely light matches and other important duties.

It'll be good practice in counter-drone insurgent technology for the coming war.

No legislation that I'm aware of. There are activists but they are such a minority. I have 0 faith in the Texas GOP to do anything for our civil liberties.

What is a direct indication of the POLICE-SURVEILLANCE STATE is here forever? The country is broke, 80-85% of the DHS' budget is DISCRETIONARY, yet their spending continues at the expense of Americans; counterfeited FED printing money, more debt, and inflation. They are taxing America to build the open air prison called United States of America.

I think they are violating our 4th amendment rights and should be shot down in self defense.Courts have already rulled, if the government can see anything on your property, you are a suspect and probably guilty.

Probably not effective at stopping the drones mission... Most drones also contain Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR)... giving them a second set of eyes that can be used for a multitude of mission assessments.

Courts have already rulled, if the government can see anything on your property, you are a suspect and probably guilty.
And what I'm saying is that I'm fully willing to shoot down any drone floating within firing range over my property and take it to the supreme court. Bring this shit on.

I see no advantage to the government getting more tyranical for spreading the message. It's already out of hand, without drones overhead.

Not effective at all. Guide it on a moving target that far away? Also, how do you know it is an unmanned vehicle? If not, you are up on felony charges.

I think they are already here in Houston. I also think the government is creating an unnecessary industry with taxpayer dollars which should be a bone of contention for any fiscal conservative, privacy and other issues aside. Time to start following the money trail.
For example read up on companies like General Atomics. ( and the other scary weaponry they are working on http://www.ga.com/railgun-programs)

Sunbelt states are proabably the most likely places for TPTB to try this shit. Lots of rugged terrain to play in. One day you're out hiking Camelback mountain, all of a sudden...disappeared.

Any drone that got in range would obviously be unmanned. They are very little.

Actually they come in all different sizes from what I have read. It's pretty upsetting our tax dollars are being spent on this made up war industry..war against ourselves ultimately.
