House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is against a cut in Congressional pay because it would lessen the “respect” for the work Congress does. Apparently the Beltway has cut off circulation to her brain.

Pelosi Against Pay Cut For Representatives (http://reason.com/24-7/2013/02/15/pelosi-against-pay-cut-for-representativ)

WASHINGTON, Feb. 15 (UPI) -- House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said she opposes a cut in congressional pay because it may lessen the respect for the work lawmakers do.

"I don't think we should do it. I think we should respect the work we do," Pelosi said Thursday. "I think it's necessary for us to have the dignity of the job that we have rewarded."

Can't get much lower!:

No one respects their 'work'. What was it, a 17% approval rating last time I saw it?

I don't have a problem with their base salaries. Most are independently wealthy anyway, and the poorer ones that might actually represent us need a decent salary.

But eliminate all the extras, including medical and pensions.

Put them on Medicare and SS like the rest of us.

I saw somewhere it was 9% and that cockroaches have a more favorability
rating than congress.

I say cut their pay 50% and all benefits until they balance the budget.

As most of them are wealthy already, I think a pay cut would only really affect politicians like Gunny.

So redistribute their wealth. Cut pay for the wealthy, and give it to the politicians who don't have much money.

Someone should do a poll asking people if they would respect Congress for their work more or less if they cut their own pay, and then show Pelosi the results.

Heh. What's good for the goose! Also, congressional pay could be means-tested. All three branches, actually.

This is actually true. Cutting Congressional salary below DC Cost of living would simply keep un-wealthy people like me out of it. As it is, I'm eyeballing 2016 after a stint as NC GOP Vice Chair (also not a salaried position btw. I may be eating out of dumpsters when I get this position lol.

She acts like its a real job. If it were, she would have been fired years ago. I didn't know taking and oppressing the rights of the minority was a job, and we have to pay her for that?

I wonder what she thought of Ron's salary plan of $40/k a year for himself as POTUS. Does this mean Congress wouldn't listen to him and the people would not respect him either because his "pay grade" is so low?

My goodness, isn't that the weakest possible argument one could possibly make to counter a proposed cut in one's own pay? “Dignity”, really?

Madam Pelosi’s brain-trust must have been working overtime to have come up with that one tidbit.

I thought wacko Pelosi believed in "REDISTRIBUTION"?

If so, then frankenliberal... redistribute your Boeing 757 aka 'Air Force Fun' to me.

Here's Nancy Pelosi's transportation every week while Speaker of the House... it carries over 200 mundanes so the people should respect her for this?

Truthfully, they are very underpaid. I would much rather see them get paid 600k and then give up all ability to make money from ties to their congressional position. Basically I don't want them making 7 figures as lobbyists or profiting in anyway through influence peddling. They kind of make peanuts for the amount of effort it takes to get that position.

I think I remember seeing Jim Demint had a net worth of like $60000 (not sure how that's possible.) Demint gave up his Senate seat to make low seven figures at the Heritage Foundation.

She's showing the true colors of the Demonrats. They really believe they are priveleged because they fight for the noble causes of environmentalism, etc. They are the true elitists who look down on the masses. How dare any peasants question them.

See, if I go home and practice medicine right now, the congressional rules say, "You can't practice medicine." I don't want to take the lucrative pension fund, but ironically, if I wanted to work extra on the weekend, they won't allow me, because they say it's a conflict of interest for me to go home and deliver a baby. So figure that out.

So let's see. Politicians in Washington, D.C. are literally destroying our country, and think they deserve "respect" and a pay raise for it?

I'm gonna try that on Monday morning. I'm walking into the factory, and, instead of producing things, I'm going to smash my machine to bits and piss on three coworkers. I'll letcha know if that gets me a raise or not.

I actually find myself aligned more with Pelosi and less with Ron Paul right now. I'm surprised Pelosi isn't demanding that they all work for free, so as to starve out the citizen representatives and encourage only those who get most of their money from lobbyists and kickbacks.

Eh, I don't. It wouldn't require but half the salary if you are working from home and not DC. Not to mention if all the Congress critters were all at home, it would be 1000 times more difficult for the lobbyists and the special interests to do their thing.
