I just got a call saying that there was a shooting in the courthouse. Several shot. Shooter killed, I think. Not sure though. Cripes. It's like 10 minutes up the road.

This is not what a rational person would describe as a MASS shooting.

The surrounding area is a really problematic place. Consistent drug activity. People are always being shot up here. Is a common phenomenon to hear about it.

NBC 10 out of Philadelphia is reporting on it live. Nothing from cable news yet.

Not anymore. Not a bad neighborhood with constant drug activity. A gun control problem. Silly mundane. :)

It's up to 5 shot now. But, yes. I agree.

Confirmed that the shooter was killed now.

Well then, lets watch the story change.

Three people were shot on Monday while inside the New Castle County Courthouse in Wilmington, Del., police said, and the suspect is in custody.

Wilmington Police Cpl. Jamaine Crawford said two women and a man were shot and that the man was a security person, the Associated Press reported.

Medics were dispatched to the courthouse. Crawford said he did not know the condition of the three people who were shot.

According to Delaware Online, Sandra Autman, the deputy New Castle County prothonotary, told police she and several staff members were holed up in their mezzanine office, one level below the lobby. Autman told authorities employees heard at least five shots, according to Delaware Online.

The person in custody is a man.

Five people were shot when a gunman opened fire at the New Castle County Courthouse this morning, state police said. One of the wounded was a Capitol Police officer.

Wilmington Mayor Dennis Williams reported the shooter had been killed.

Ferris Wharton, a public defender and former chief deputy attorney general, said an employee of his office reported that he saw a woman who appeared to be dead in the lobby. The employee also saw bullet holes in the window by the revolving door of courthouse that is adjacent to the parking garage. Shell casings littered the ground, the employee said, according to Wharton.

“I don’t know what to say,’’ said Wharton, who has worked in the Wilmington courthouses for three decades. “I’ve never heard of anything like this happening in Delaware. It’s a wild situation.’’

Sandra Autman, deputy New Castle County prothonotary, says she and several other “hysterical staff” are holed up in their mezzanine office, one level below the lobby. She said employees heard at least five shots and reports that the gunman came into the lobby shooting.

They're saying around 20 shots fired on local news.

One of the victims was the suspect's wife.

The flipside is that this area is surrounded by all of the major bank buildings. All of them are based on this street and surrounding streets. Some with more than 1 building. Bank of America has 4 buildings itself a couple of blocks down. Well, 3. They donated one of them to a school.

Well then, lets watch the story change.

So, the lone gunman is counted as two people shot? Is that how there are three victims, but five people shot? In any case, it's reassuring to know they've got his dead body in custody. Or would that be, 'dead bodies'?

It's definitely 3 people shot. Not 5. The wife (deceased), another woman and a security guard.

Nevermind. Now it's 5.

Was listening to one of the reporters on fox 29 saying that when they find out what kind of weapon was used it will
"dictate" discussion on it.

They are saying 5 shots were heard. 5 people hit. (wounded)

Initially,,3 shot and the shooter in custody. Now reports that the shooter is dead and 5 injured.

Does that courthouse have security cameras?

Edit
So was the shooter killed after he was in custody? and did people get shot by the police response?

It's brand new practically. Very current infrastructure. The people being interviewed after the fact who were in the lobby are saying they heard around 20 shots. 6 immediate surrounding schools are on lockdown that are located within blocks of the scene. We have 19 school districts in this tiny little state if one can believe that. Is a hoot.

A man who fired a weapon at a courthouse in Wilmington, Delaware on Monday was shot and killed by police who returned fire, state police said.

The man, between 20 and 30 years old, fired shots after entering the New Castle County Courthouse and trying to breach the security line, Delaware State Police said in an interview with local media. Officers shot back and killed him.
Several other people also were shot, according to initial reports.
Law enforcement responsible for the courthouse would not immediately comment.

Or the shooter was killed after he was in custody and there was some collateral damage.

Something not ordinary to other court houses is that this one requires citizens to check in their cell phones prior to entry. Pay 50 cents to store it in a locker or leave it outside in your car. So...no citizen (civilians, as referenced by reporters) communication should be expected like we see from some of these people present when these things happen. Not that that's relevant but since there was a question about cameras. Was just pointing that out. Some people waiting for jurors (spouses) are concerned because they have no communication with them.

8 different branches of police, DHS, ATF, Secret Service and FBI are on site though. Robotic equipment. Big old trucks. Lot's of toys in some of these camera shots from reporters on site. Reporters on site referencing "Seal Team 6" just now as a comparison to what they are looking at on site. Sigh...

Some of these robots are pretty neat that they keep showing us. AF would be proud.

Reports are this was the guy who was in the news some time ago. Maybe 3 years ago. John Walsh had been on back then discussing the case. Was rather broadly known. Kidnapped his three kids or something. Showcased on America's most wanted. Said he wanted to take his kids to Disney but took them to nicaragua instead. International parental kidnapping. I assume this is why Cable news hasn't chosen to pick it up. Long criminal record.

Wife was estranged.(civilian female the way the reporters tell it) leading into gun control discussion.

Family court. Child support amendment or something.

Anyhoo...I should get back to work.

Wounded,,
As I understand,, shot his ex wife, and Constable/Security/Cop,,
Did the Constable/Security/Cop return fire?? Did he hit anything/anyone?

Originally reported as 3 hit and shooter in custody. Then it was 5 hit plus the shooter dead.

Did police response increase the body count?
Would be nice to see video security cameras to know for sure.

Apparently the 10 shot magazine restriction would not have made any difference.

"Gunfight" in Delaware courthouse kills 3
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-201_162-57568675/gunfight-in-delaware-courthouse-kills-3/

A Delaware State Police spokesman says 3 people have died in a shooting at the New Castle County Courthouse in Wilmington.

Officials described the situation as a "gunfight," reports CBS affiliate KYW-TV in Philadelphia. According to investigators, the gunman entered the lobby of the courthouse, pulled out a gun and opened fire.

According to Wilmington Mayor Dennis Williams, the suspect's estranged wife and a second unidentified female were shot and killed by the gunman. Williams says the suspected gunman was then killed by police.

Two Capitol police officers were wounded during the shootout and were taken to Christiana Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Apparently the 10 shot magazine restriction would not have made any difference.

Final numbers are two dead victims. The estranged ex-wife and her female friend who was with her. 1 dead suspect (still laying in the lobby, btw, as per the press conference that just aired from police) who was shot during exchange of fire with two security guards after the fact. Both also shot but alive thanks to their vests.

When you walk through the doors of this court house, you have maybe 15' before you get to the metal detectors and property inspection area. This area is pretty condensed so that the people are in a nice tight line. Would have been fairly simple for the guy to simply walk up and shoot both victims before getting into cross fire with the security guards. So...if twenty shots were heard, we can be comfortable knowing that they were heard from behind while the interviewee was beating feet. Probably the majority of shots fired during exchange with security.

Suspect was an eye doctor by trade.

Was he on SSRI drugs like almost all the others? (http://ssristories.com/index.php)

Will the public be told?

The problems from these "legal" drugs will only get worse. It's documented, and ignored by DC and the Lapdog media. For how much longer?

The man who reportedly opened fire at a Delaware courthouse, killing two women and injuring two police officers before he died, has been identified as Thomas Matusiewicz.

The shooter was initially identified by "police and law sources" as David Matusiewicz, who was at the New Castle County Courthouse in Wilmington on Monday morning for a child support hearing involving his three kids, according to FOX 29. Those sources now identify the shooter as David's father, Thomas, USA Today reports. Police have not yet confirmed the shooter's identity.
