Who cares? I'm starting to get annoyed with the fad diet component of this movement. We're supposed to be measuring our leaders by whether they support policies that maximize liberty, not whether they're food snobs.

Well. It may very well be important to some people depending upon their perception of the question. I'm recently reminded of this phenomenon of perception. Look at all of the genetically modified food. The legislation behind it. The rulings against citizens as a result. Multi national corporations hiring private police to go around harassing farmers into compliance. It goes on and on and on...and on. Knowing that we are what we eat and we eat what we do premised upon principle I think consideration of the opinions of some of our representatives on the science behind our food supply are quite important. Can't really dumb it down much further than that but there is certainly a valid platform for it.

So. I don't so much care what Rand eats as much as I'm concerned with knowing what his position is on the sciences regarding the manipulation of our food supply and certain legislation that goes with it. This one tiny little seemingly harmless question thet you don't care about has the makings of a very damaging series of questions in the direction of Rand regarding his position on relevant issues to it.

That said, let's see how long this thread lasts here. My bet is not very long. Which is a very telling phenomenon in and of itself. But anyhoo. I digress....

Health is important to liberty. How do you plan to defend yourself and your family if you're fat and sick?

Health is important to liberty.

I thought the liberty part was the important part? Everyone can live their own life, it's their choice if they want to eat fatty foods, smoke and drink.

Liberty is the important part. But good health is necessary to keep statists at bay, as they can rally plenty of force against you. I don't think anyone is trying to tell others how to live their lives. (every libertarian I know wants to abolish the FDA and various other government "health" agencies) It's just people sharing advice and opinions. I personally don't care if you let yourself get obese and have a stroke and whatever as long as you take responsibility for it.

Rand states in this interview (at around 4:08 - 4:21) "I eat a lot of sushi." I hope that Rand does not turn into Ivan The Terrible by 2016 due to mercury poisoning from excessive sushi consumption.

Well you can look at the photo from the purely political narrative that much of the people will surely latch onto as they are pounded with it from mainstream conversationalists. I mean, look what the photo dipicts. What narrative does that serve? But one could, very easily, elevate it to much broader and far more relevant terms of controversy. I think it really should be too. That's just my opinion though. This preview of such narratives to perhaps come up for popular discussion is why Ann was correct in the other thread. Perhaps not on the remedial issues themselves but in scope.

Does he go for the 20 piece chicken nugget deal? Or maybe a Big Mac Meal? What would be his choice for beverage?

lol at this thread!

Food is pretty much the last vestiges of pharisaical religion for many people. We use it to put down other people and divide ourselves by class. I recently saw a "libertarian" posting that silly "stop milk exploitation" photo around--calling for cows to be freed from milk exploitation from humans (not kidding). I wanted to take a screen shot of the commenters. All upperclass looking (caucasian) women taking a principled stand against 1000s of years of tribal life and migrant farmers across the globe...

We really do have too much time on our hands, don't we?

you callin' me a hipster, sailor? No way! My diet is simple enough that I can make almost any restaurant's food healthy by picking out the unhealthy parts. For example, a Big Mac with cheese is a pretty good meal without the bun.

lolwut's up with this thread?

But to answer the question...

Almost every time him and I went out he ate fish. He really does like the fish tacos at Rafferty's by his place. I did hit a Panera and ChikFilA with him once or twice, although I cannot remember what he ordered because I wasn't really paying that much attention. I remember we had chili at his neighbor's place one night, and some of the times at his house we had various food, one was BBQ that I remember.

Not sure why any of this matters? heh
