Indiana Senate Bill 400 nullifies the indefinite detention provision of the NDAA. We have just learned that it will get a hearing! The committee will hear the bill on Tuesday, February 12th at 10:00 AM in room 130. I urge anyone who lives in the state to show up, and make your voice heard!

Spread the word! If we can push this through the committee, I feel that it will cruise to the governors desk.

Thanks everyone! I have heard through the grapevine that the Senator who introduced it, plans on amending the bill to provide for harsher penalties for those who attempt to detain Americans. Good progress so far, and I hope that we flood the committee room!

UPDATE: The hearing went very well. Immediately it was clear that Senator Young, the chairman of the committee was a big supporter of the bill. Sheriff Brad Rogers of Elkhart County testified first in favor, and made a great case for it. It was amazing to hear the senators talk emphatically in favor of harsher penalties for government officials attempting to get around the constitution. The original misdemeanor charge was taken out and they hope to add felony charges later on in the process. The bill has been changed to not only nullify the NDAA, but ANY bill that is a threat to habeas and due process. I was surprised how enthusiastic the committee was, one senator mentioned that he didn't want his family indefinitely detained, another one mention the PATRIOT act and called it the "So called Patriot Act..."! The room was packed, and it was great to meet a lot of activists from around the state (including Michael Badnarik, the 2004 libertarian nominee for President.) Also, I have heard that a bill to stop drone usage in Indiana will be getting a hearing in the next couple of weeks.
