Yeah, I saw that on twitter. Even for the ditto heads they should grasp from that that he is as establishment as you can get.

Grrr....

it's a good job he's a pretty lackluster performer and will likely say hardly anything substantial.

Sadly, I think they wouldn't get that.

Not surprised, I and many other users predicted Rubio would be chosen in the "draft Rand Paul for SOTU response" thread.

We'll tell them.

We have a very good track record of pointing out that sort of thing.

Rubio is very lackluster, honestly, all he does is talk in the abstract. Conservatives are not going to fall for that routine, not after 8 years of Obama doing pretty much the same thing.

This will end up like Bobby Jindal in 2009.

I know I shouldn't be disappointed. But I am. Rand has dominated the Republican party since the election. He totally deserved this.

Next year would be a better one for Rand to respond to. The 2014 SOTU will be essentially the platform speech for each party headed into midterms.

I agree. The establishment is desperately trying so hard promoting this guy and he just can't pull it off. I wonder how they are going to spin his performance the next day and it will be very telling where they are headed with their game plan.

I think the establishment is doing this since they want a Jeb Bush/Rubio ticket. But after two losses pushing their Progressive candidates and losing, I do not think they are going to be able to pull it off for a third time as easily.

All we need to ask Rubio is this: What would you cut from the Federal budget to balance it?

Who makes the choice of who gets to do the response?

At least this means he likely will not be giving next year's response.

The House and Senate leaders so Boehner and McConnell.

this may be part of why he was chosen, for their legislative agenda and 'rebranding':

Chad Pergram ‏@ChadPergram

Sen Marco Rubio (R-FL) to deliver formal GOP response to State of the Union speech next week. Will do so in English and Spanish.

and both this year and next year SOTU response by Rand - whether official or unofficial - will be the best of them all anyway.

Really? Interesting...I didn't know that. These Republican morons have stars in their eyes and they think Rubio is going to bring them a win, but he will go down in flames to Hillary. He has no chance at all with that war-all-the-time rhetoric.

How very inclusive and diverse.

I have no problem with him giving the response this year. Let him have all the fanfare he wants right now in 2013. Rubio and Hillary are peaking WAAAYYY too early, I guarantee it won't last.

Rand Paul is being intentionally hidden by the mainstream GOP as well as Fox. Put 2 and 2 together.

Hilary's career plans for 2016 are already sealed as finished - no peaking too early being seen in her.

Look at the bright side, if he gives it this year, he won't be giving it the next 2 which are much more important.
