Mia Love (Mayor of Saratoga Springs, Utah)

This I find interesting, though not surprising. Since she spoke at the RNC, she's become what most would consider a star or even an anomaly since she's Black, Female, Republican AND Mormon at the same time. I do wonder if her speaking at CPAC is to raise her profile more if she decides to run for the House against Jim Matheson again. Their race was quite close.

She also has liberty leanings. There was an interview where she was asked which Republican presidential candidate she liked most and she said it was Ron Paul. She's also very fiscally conservative, wants to slash the size of government and is a big Bastiat fan.

Good to see that Rand is a confirmed speaker. Now we just need to get our other potential liberty candidates for 2014 there to do a little meet and great so they raise their name recognition among the activists.

+rep to the person who can spell out why she lost so I don't have to do it. It's a re-occurring theme.

- Democrats portrayed her as an extremist
- Democrats portrayed her as stupid (like Palin, O'Donnell and Angle)
- The LP split the liberty vote
- Her campaign was very disorganized (her campaign manager changed monthly)

And despite that, she still did come very close. Matheson beat her 49.3 to 48.1, so if she retooled her campaign should she run again, and CPAC would definitely be a good start, she could attract more voters who won't see her as some extreme Republican. If anything, they could probably call into question her support of Romney, knowing how that turned out.

Tho there were reports of voter fraud, ballotpedia says Matheson had 48.8%, Love 48.5% and the LP 2.6%.

Yep, it ended up being a 768 vote margin. By far Matheson's closest race.

The debate about cutting defense spending is meant to be between Lindsey Graham and Tom Coburn, but Graham has yet to confirm his attendance.

Oh I had thought Rand was taking part in these discussions.

No, Rand is only doing a keynote speech and the "Economic liberty and the rising generation" event at CPAC.

However, all the events I listed have some involvement from libertarian groups like YAL, S4L and Cato. The liberty movement event has a Rand Paul staffer and committeewoman Ashley Ryan.

It's definitely going to be a good event. It has some good breakout sessions and a lot of speakers that are of interest to liberty minded people (Rand Paul, Lee, Cruz, Coburn, Chaffetz and Cuccinelli).

I would certainly recommend it. I posted a guide to CPAC that outlines all the major liberty events happening on that day. As you can see, there is a TON to do, and that doesnt even include the Liberty on the Rocks event w/ Justin Amash the night before or the break out sessions that will take place for people in the liberty movement. You have over 3,000 posts here Tony, and that combined with your signature's phrase (Stand w/ Rand) shows you obviously care a lot about this movement and Rand's future, and both will be advanced in vital ways at CPAC 2013! I would definitely recommend attendance!
