House Republicans are next week starting a series of private strategy sessions to craft their 2013 legislative agenda.
But while the GOP is ostensibly looking for new policy to define itself, they’re also reaching out to an old hand to massage their messaging on spending cuts. Frank Luntz is speaking to a group of lawmakers in a Feb. 28 closed session about the “deficit and debt,” according to an invitation sent out by the House Republican Conference.
The GOP’s strategy sessions are split into three categories: economic growth and jobs (Wednesday), supporting American families (Thursday) and upholding American values (Friday). Each meeting is for lawmakers only, and will be one hour. House GOP Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (Wash.) and Policy Chair James Lankford (Okla.) will host the meetings.
The GOP is trying to solve a simple problem: they have a majority, but haven’t quite figured out what to do with it.
