"Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbfhXyfbIfo

Crazy lyrics

I remember when, I remember, I remember when I lost my mind
There was something so pleasant about that place.
Even your emotions had an echo
In so much space

And when you're out there
Without care,
Yeah, I was out of touch
But it wasn't because I didn't know enough
I just knew too much

Does that make me crazy
Does that make me crazy
Does that make me crazy
Possibly [video version]
Probably [CD version]

And I hope that you are having the time of your life
But think twice, that's my only advice

Come on now, who do you, who do you, who do you, who do you think you are,
Ha ha ha bless your soul
You really think you're in control

Well, I think you're crazy
I think you're crazy
I think you're crazy
Just like me

My heroes had the heart to Lose their lives out on a limb
And all I remember is thinking, I want to be like them
Ever since I was little, ever since I was little it looked like fun
And it's no coincidence I've come
And I can die when I'm done

Maybe I'm crazy
Maybe you're crazy
Maybe we're crazy
Possibly

:D  :)

Ha!

I once thought that that ol' Billy Joel song might work:

You may be right
I may be crazy
But it just might be
A lunatic you're lookin' for

HEADSTRONG
Trapt

Circling your, circling your, circling your head,
Contemplating everything you ever said
Now I see the truth, I got doubt
A different motive in your eyes and now I’m out
See you later
I see your fantasy, You want to make it a reality paved in gold
See inside, Inside of our heads (yeah)
Well now that’s over
I see your motives inside, decisions to hide

[Chorus:]
Back off I’ll take you on
Headstrong to take on anyone
I know that you are wrong
Headstrong we’re Headstrong
Back off I’ll take you on
Headstrong to take on anyone
I know that you are wrong and this is not where you belong
I can’t give everything away
I won’t give everything away

[Verse 2:]
Conclusions manifest, your first impressions got to be your very best
I see you’re full of $#!T, and that’s alright
That’s how you play, I guess you’ll get through every night
Well now that’s over
I see your fantasy, you want to make it a reality paved in gold
See inside, inside of our heads (yeah) Well now that’s over
I see your motives inside, decisions to hide

[Chorus]

[Verse 3:]
I know, I know all about [x3]
I know, I know all about your motives inside, and your decision to hide

[Chorus]

"Taking the Country Back" from John Anderson would be the PERFECT song imo! It would definately reach the heartland of America and the more rural voters.

Do a search for it on youtube if you'd like to listen. I'm here at work or I would just paste the link but I can't get to it.

My Hero- Foo Fighters

Too alarming now to talk about
take your pictures down and shake them out
truth or consequence, say it aloud
use that evidence, race it around

there goes my hero
watch him as he goes
there goes my hero
he's ordinary

don't the best of them bleed it out
while the rest of them peter out
truth or consequence, say it aloud
use that evidence, race it around

there goes my hero
watch him as he goes
there goes my hero
he's ordinary

kudos my hero, leaving all the best
you know my hero, the one that's on

(maybe overused too, but fits pretty good)

bad religion - before you die

Porcelain and alabaster, decaying ever faster,
Unaware of imminent disaster open up your eyes.
As you ruminate the hopeless sands of time,
Did you wander out your days lost and resigned?
Or recreate the universals in your mind?
Everybody is bastard: my world is like plaster
Crumbling apart from pressure of the blaster
Waiting for a sign
And the momentary pleasures take their turn
As a wistful boy runs out of things to learn,
The episodes of yore are never to return.
Scare up some hope, youre gonna need it just to cope
You are the decision, numbers dont lie
When you bite the dust, was it for purpose or for trust?
Youll never relive it, think before you die.
Yeah, think! Think before you die.
Deficit and depravation in the wake of desperation
Rewrite the morals, rectify the nation.
Now may be your time
As you ruminate the hopeless sands of time,
Do you wonder how your life has been defined?
You know eternity cant ever change your mind.
You know eternity cant ever change your mind
So think! Think before you die Yeah, think!
Think before you die

just kidding this would never work as a campaign song, far too literal

Often after getting fired up from hearing Ron Paul speak I get this song running through my head :

Twisted Sister

We're Not Gonna Take It

Oh We're Not Gonna Take It
no, We Ain't Gonna Take It
oh We're Not Gonna Take It Anymore

we've Got The Right To Choose And
there Ain't No Way We'll Lose It
this Is Our Life, This Is Our Song
we'll Fight The Powers That Be Just
don't Pick Our Destiny 'cause
you Don't Know Us, You Don't Belong

oh We're Not Gonna Take It
no, We Ain't Gonna Take It
oh We're Not Gonna Take It Anymore

oh You're So Condescending
your Gall Is Never Ending
we Don't Want Nothin', Not A Thing From You
your Life Is Trite And Jaded
boring And Confiscated
if That's Your Best, Your Best Won't Do

oh.....................
oh.....................
we're Right/yeah
we're Free/yeah
we'll Fight/yeah
you'll See/yeah

oh We're Not Gonna Take It
no, We Ain't Gonna Take It
oh We're Not Gonna Take It Anymore

oh We're Not Gonna Take It
no, We Ain't Gonna Take It
oh We're Not Gonna Take It Anymore
no Way!

oh.....................
oh.....................
we're Right/yeah
we're Free/yeah
we'll Fight/yeah
you'll See/yeah

we're Not Gonna Take It
no, We Ain't Gonna Take It
we're Not Gonna Take It Anymore

we're Not Gonna Take It, No!
no, We Ain't Gonna Take It
we're Not Gonna Take It Anymore

just You Try And Make Us
we're Not Gonna Take It
come On
no, We Ain't Gonna Take It
you're All Worthless And Weak
we're Not Gonna Take It Anymore
now Drop And Give Me Twenty
we're Not Gonna Take It
oh Crinch Pin
no, We Ain't Gonna Take It
oh You And Your Uniform
we're Not Gonna Take It Anymore

I'm sure you will notice from my selections that I listen to all types of music, there isn't many genres that I can't find something I like. So with that said, here is my list of songs I find good:

These first two are my top picks.

Rock/Pop
John Mayer - Waiting On The World To Change
http://youtube.com/watch?v=HXWXQeHCWpo

Hip Hop
Black Eyed Peas - Where is the love
http://youtube.com/watch?v=PJV9EMkv0u4

Country
Waylon Jennings - America
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGz_xSSgjY0

Rock/Pop
Beatles - Revolution
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87yq372R4Ts

Reggae
Bob Marley - Get Up, Stand Up
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsVkV3AZqqI

These last two, I know won't be the most popular. But I am a huge "Rage Against The Machine" and "Led Zeppelin" fan, so here you go:

Hard Rock w/ Hip Hop twist
Rage Against the Machine - Wake Up
http://www.blogmusik.net/?urlIdSong=1454

Rock
Led Zeppelin - Ramble On

Survivor
Survivor

One more goddamn day when I know what I want
And my want will be considered tonight, considered tonight
Just another day when all that I want
Will mark me as a sinner tonight, I'm a sinner tonight, yeah

[Chorus]
People can no longer cover their eyes
If this disturbs you then walk away
You will remember the night you were struck by the sight of
Ten Thousand fists in the air

Power un-restrained dead on the mark
Is what we will deliver tonight, deliver tonight
Pleasure fused with pain this triumph of the soul
will make you shiver tonight, will make you shiver tonight, yeah

[Chorus]

We are the ones that will open your mind
Leave the weak and the haunted behind [4x]

[Chorus]

Ten Thousand fists in the air
Ten Thousand fists in the air

I vote for Bob Seger's "Feel Like a Number"

I take my card and I stand in line
To make a buck I work overtime
Dear Sir letters keep coming in the mail
I work my back till it's racked with pain
The boss can't even recall my name
I show up late and I'm docked
It never fails
I feel like just another
Spoke in a great big wheel
Like a tiny blade of grass
In a great big field
To workers I'm just another drone
To Ma Bell I'm just another phone
I'm just another statistic on a sheet
To teachers I'm just another child
To IRS I'm just another file
I'm just another consensus on the street
Gonna cruise out of this city
Head down to the sea
Gonna shout out at the ocean
Hey it's me
And I feel like a number
Feel like a number
Feel like a stranger
A stranger in this land
I feel like a number
I'm not a number
I'm not a number
Dammit I'm a man
I said I'm a man

They'll try to stop the dream we're dreamin'
But they can't stop us from believing
They will fill your head with doubt
But that won't stop us now
So let them say we can't do it
Put up a road block
We'll just run right through it.. Cause...

We can, do the impossible
We have the power in our hands
And we won't stop 'cause we've got
To make a difference in this life
With one voice, one heart, two hands, we can

They say the odds are stacked against us
But that can't hold us back, we will be relentless
There's a voice they're gonna hear
A voice so loud and clear
So let them say we can't do it, give us a mountain,
and we're gonna move it.. cause..

We can, do the impossible
We have the power in our hands, and we won't stop
Cause we've got to make a difference in this life
With one voice, one heart, Two hands, we can

We're gonna make a change today (make a change today)
Because we've got the faith it takes
To win this race, so let them say we can't do it
Put up a road block
And we'll just run right through it cuz..

We can, do the impossible
We have the power in our hands and we won't stop
Cos we've got to make a difference in this life
With one voice, one heart Two hands, we can

I can (oh I can)
Do the impossible (do the impossible)
I have the power in my hands, and I won't stop
Cause I've got to make a difference in this life
With my one voice, one heart, two hands, we can

ANTI-FLAG

"You Can Kill The Protestor, But You Can't Kill The Protest"

You can spoon my eyes out,
but I can still see through you
Slice my ears from my head,
but you can't shut out the sounds of the truth
Lock off each hand at the wrist
so I can't raise my fist!

You can kill the protestor (can't kill)
You can't kill the protest
You can murder the rebel (murder)
You can't murder the rebellion

Sawed my feet at the ankles,
but I wasn't gonna run (I wasn't gonna run)
So you grabbed my face and sliced off my tongue
Lock off each hand at the wrist,
So I can't raise my fist!

You can kill the protestor (can't kill)
You can't kill the protest
You can murder the rebel (murder)
You can't murder the rebellion

Lying still now, no way to speak.
There's nothing to fear (there's nothing to fear)
Lying still now, no way to speak.
There's nothing to fear
No nothing to fear
Because bullets can't silence ideas!

You can kill the protestor (can't kill)
You can't kill the protest
You can murder the rebel (murder)
You can't murder the rebellion

The rebellion
The rebellion
No!

Civil War by Guns n' Roses

"What we've got here is failure to communicate.
Some men you just can't reach...
So, you get what we had here last week,
which is the way he wants it!
Well, he gets it!
And I don't like it any more than you men." *

Look at your young men fighting
Look at your women crying
Look at your young men dying
The way they've always done before

Look at the hate we're breeding
Look at the fear we're feeding
Look at the lives we're leading
The way we've always done before

My hands are tied
The billions shift from side to side
And the wars go on with brainwashed pride
For the love of God and our human rights
And all these things are swept aside
By bloody hands time can't deny
And are washed away by your genocide
And history hides the lies of our civil wars

D'you wear a black armband
When they shot the man
Who said "Peace could last forever"
And in my first memories
They shot Kennedy
I went numb when I learned to see
So I never fell for Vietnam
We got the wall of D.C. to remind us all
That you can't trust freedom
When it's not in your hands
When everybody's fightin'
For their promised land

And
I don't need your civil war
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
I don't need your civil war

Look at the shoes your filling
Look at the blood we're spilling
Look at the world we're killing
The way we've always done before
Look in the doubt we've wallowed
Look at the leaders we've followed
Look at the lies we've swallowed
And I don't want to hear no more

My hands are tied
For all I've seen has changed my mind
But still the wars go on as the years go by
With no love of God or human rights
'Cause all these dreams are swept aside
By bloody hands of the hypnotized
Who carry the cross of homicide
And history bears the scars of our civil wars

"We practice selective annihilation of mayors
And government officials
For example to create a vacuum
Then we fill that vacuum
As popular war advances
Peace is closer" **

I don't need your civil war
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
And I don't need your civil war
I don't need your civil war
I don't need your civil war
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
I don't need your civil war
I don't need one more war

I don't need one more war

Hope they don't sue me, but I thought the lyrics to "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica fit the situation very well...

So close, no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
and nothing else matters

Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don't just say
and nothing else matters

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
and nothing else matters

never cared for what they do
never cared for what they know
but I know

So close, no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
and nothing else matters

never cared for what they do
never cared for what they know
but I know

Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don't just say

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us, something new
Open mind for a different view
and nothing else matters

never cared for what they say
never cared for games they play
never cared for what they do
never cared for what they know
and I know

So close, no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
No, nothing else matters

Free Will by Rush (yeah theyre Canadian, but their music is influenced by Rand)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Peb_YEnA5MQ

There are those who think that life has nothing left to chance,
A host of holy horrors to direct our aimless dance.

A planet of playthings,
We dance on the strings
Of powers we cannot perceive
"The stars aren't aligned,
Or the gods are malign..."
Blame is better to give than receive.

Chorus
You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.
You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill;
I will choose a path that's clear
I will choose freewill.

There are those who think that they were dealt a losing hand,
The cards were stacked against them; they weren't born in Lotusland.

All preordained
A prisoner in chains
A victim of venomous fate.
Kicked in the face,
You can't pray for a place
In heaven's unearthly estate.

Chorus

Each of us
A cell of awareness
Imperfect and incomplete.
Genetic blends
With uncertain ends
On a fortune hunt that's far too fleet.

Chorus

"Taking The Country Back" would probably connect well with the Heartland types. I'd be willing to sing it.

But I bet a whole room of supporters singing "New America" would INCREDIBLE. It's positive, it's patriotic, and it rocks!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_8nJEOyaGg

Do you, know the cost, of future misery?
Have you, lost your sense, of sustainability?
We are just a step away, from realizing, what we strive to be
But we've got to break out from, this insulated, blind and lame senility!

Wake up the new America, wha-oh
Transcend the mass hysteria, wha-oh
Changing the things we're weary of, wha-oh
We need a new America, wha-oh

Laurels, human triumph, bestowments from the past
Victories, don't mean a thing, if they don't last
We are just marching toward -extinguishment- with blinders on our eyes
Jeapordizing everything -we've learned- and come, to realize
You call that wise??

Wake up the new America, wha-oh
Transcend the mass hysteria, wha-oh
Changing the things we're weary of, wha-oh
We need a new America, Wha-oh

We don't have to be
Afraid to re-invent
We've go to start to build,
Progress, and implement
For when we take our fill
And never pay the price
We only build ourselves...
A fleeting false paradise!

You can live in such denial,
And mark me as you enemy
But I'm just a voice among the *throng*
who want a brighter destiny,

Then sing with me!

We are the new America, wha-oh
This is the new America, wha-oh

I think we can go ahead and rule out GWAR and twisted sister -- the lyrics to were not gonna take it are fitting but the song itself im not so sure....and im a huge anti flag fan but these are not all that fitting for an actual campaign song

I prefer the Johnny Cash cover of...

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
I Won't Back Down (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUvEouWA29o)

I was going to suggest this song as well! I think this is THEE song so far. And what a strong message to send to the suppressors of Ron Paul's message of liberty!

Here's a link to the Tom Petty version (on some golf video):

I can just imagine a crowd of supporters singing this, replacing the "I's" with "we". And maybe replace the "hey baby" with something?

Anyone here think this is a bad choice? We're gonna have to eventually choose just one...

Here are the lyrics:

Well I wont back down, no I wont back down
You can stand me up at the gates of hell
But I wont back down

Gonna stand my ground, wont be turned around
And Ill keep this world from draggin me down
Gonna stand my ground and I wont back down

Hey baby, there aint no easy way out
Hey I will stand my ground
And I wont back down.

Well I know whats right, I got just one life
In a world that keeps on pushin me around
But Ill stand my ground and I wont back down

Hey baby there aint no easy way out
Hey I will stand my ground
And I wont back down
No, I wont back down

I really think the best answer is to commit to one "official" song that the Headquarters can be comfortable with, but also chose a couple of unofficial "supporters" songs that we enjoy and can sing when Dr Paul himself is not making an appearance.

On the past few suggestions, I could understand the Headquarters being leery of Rush's 2112 emblem (pentagram) or Bad Religion's mascot (a cross with a "not" symbol). But allowing some room for supporters to be boisterous with some more rock'n'roll type songs, would contribute to the vigor and unity of a new generation of voters.

Choosing songs could also be a great fundraising opportunity if it's thought through properly.

Incidentally, does anyone know if ASCAP is an issue when political campaigns borrow music? ASCAP gets involved any time copyrighted music is played at a for-profit venue.

Ever since I saw a Ron Paul Revolution video on youtube with "Join together" by The Who as the background, it's sort of been my personal Ron Paul theme song. :D

I did thumb through some of the previous suggestions and gave them a listen... I think some could work, but others were too "edgy", too slow, contain profanity, or would be hard to memorize.

Really... think of something that would not spook a mixed crowd of different ages. The lyrics should be easy to learn, and fun to sing! (And if possible, sung without instruments and still sound OK.)

Of the one's I've seen, at least for an "official" song I like:

Steve Dore's "Choose Liberty"
Beatles "Revolution"
Andersons' "Taking The County Back"
RPin2008's Funky Song, (not sure what it is called)

From that list I'm kind of tempted to nix "Revolution" since it's so obvious. And tangling with Beatles music without proper approval can be very litigous.
