View Full Version : My Professor on Israel & Hagel

So, as I've stated before, I used to have a professor who was the senior consultant for Dukakis when he ran against GHWB in '88.

I had a class last year with him called Campaigning, it's an advertising (my major) course.

He is a very intelligent man and he knows what he is talking about when it comes to how Washington works. He admits he is a progressive.

He thinks Ron and Rand are bat shit crazy, but he respects my views on politics. Since the class, we have stayed in touch through emails, because I really do enjoy going back and forth with him. It's a friendly game of "you don't know shit."

So, I asked him what he thought about Hagel and if he would get confirmed. He responded with (paraphrasing), "Graham is threatening to put the confirmation on hold unless Panetta testifies on Benghazi." He then said, "This might be a slippery slope that Obama might not be willing to take, and he might just drop Hagel."

I followed up with, "AIPAC is pretty damn powerful. We work for Israel now..."

He wrote back, "It's not AIPAC this time! (although they are powerful) It's the neocons who are pissed off at Hagel for his opposition to Iraq/Afghanistan.
AIPAC lost when Schumer backed Hagel."

And I essentially followed up with that AIPAC still controls a lot of the senators and politicians in Washington.

To get to my point, we started debating the influence of Israel in Washington. I said that Israel and AIPAC try to manipulate us for our blood and treasure. He followed up with the following, and this is what I need your help on:

They use OUR blood and
treasure for THEIR problems.

Please tell me when a single American who died fighting for Israel on Israeli soil?

One name of one American soldier!

Name one time when American soldiers have ever fought for Israel?

EVER!!

Nutty Ron Paul never understood the advantage of having Israel bomb the Iranian and Iraqi nuke plants instead of us!

RR sent our boys into the pit of Lebanon and got 444 of them murdered on Lebanese soil...

When did an American die fighting for Israel on Israeli soil?

In 1956, when Egypt nationalized the Suez Canal and Israel, France, and England attempted to free it,

it was the US who told Israel to disengage against it's national interes...

Israel pulled back as asked!

Iraq, whom we freed from a dictator is now closer to Iran than us!

Afghanistan continues to reward our blood with opium exports!

FYI:

Many of Israel's most ardent critics in the U.S.(the Ron Paul crowd)decry the amount of foreign aid that the United

States gives to Israel. It seems to be their favorite point of criticism because it is hard to

establish a hard number.

These loans, however, come with real (AND APPROPRIATE) costs.

Among the most important assets that Israel provides the U.S. in return for financial assistance are:

invaluable intelligence information (without Mossad, the US would be blind against Iraq, Iran, Syria,

and even Jordan and Lebanon, technological and economic gains, and the ONLY true democratic presence

in the Mid-East. The cooperative military ventures between Israel and the United States are nothing

short of spectacular. The strategic value derived from these joint projects is hard to measure, and

the lives they save makes them priceless. The Arrow missile, as was shown recently, promises to be

an indispensable replacement for the useful, yet not quite useful enough, Patriot missile system.

From the Tactical High Energy Laser (THEL) and satellite technology, to Israel's state of the art

Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAVs) and down to more mundane military matters, the U.S. takes advantage

of Israel's technological prowess and pioneering spirit. In today's world, military supremacy is of

paramount importance for free nations, and the U.S. and Israel are a step ahead of everyone else

The IDF has approximately 150,000 active duty strength troops and another estimated 500,000

regularly trained reservists which can be mobilized inside of 72 hours. This formidable fighting

force is also equipped with the best available equipment, armaments, intelligence, and logistical

support. And Israel's Air Force has a fleet second in size only to the United States

So, some of my fellow Americans are apparently uniformed or willfully ignorant in their one-sided

criticism of Israel when it comes to this U.S. foreign aid red herring. They don't seem to object

to Arab states which take the same American money that Israel gets, while giving back little outside

of empty rhetoric and opium.

The truth is if Israel wasn't there, we'd beg to invent it.

I'd tell your professor that Israel isn't a part of the United States, thus, they're not entitled to anything according to the Constitution.

I'd also tell him to move there, because here is not where his loyalty is.

I'd also tell him, that foreign aid to Israel is still Socialism. Wealth Redistribution across international borders.

1) you don't have to die on Israeli soil to die fighting for Israel (have not millions of GIs died claiming to be fighting for 'Merica on foreign soil? Has D-day already fallen down the memory hole?) 2) I don't have the info on me right now, but it's probably rather easy to find the various wars/invasions/conflicts the Israelis got using their lobby strength.

I'll come back if I think of anything else.

Interesting to see a self-described progressive laud and defend Israel based on its fighting force.

We give Israel's enemies more than we give Israel. Arguably, the fact that we do is probably the only logical reason why we give any money to Israel at all. Why is he carrying on about 'on Israeli soil'? The last time an American died on American soil was probably Guam (unless you count the Phillipines, which were no longer American soil when the Japanese invaded, or Osaka, which wasn't American soil until we invaded). Does that mean the Americans who died on other soil during the same war, or have died since, weren't fighting for American interests? Arguably, we did invent Israel, ostensibly out of Holocaust guilt, but more likely to keep an oil-rich region in turmoil so it would be easier to play one side off against the other and steal those very resources. Is he really unaware that the largest opium dealer in the world is the CIA? Why does the second-largest air force in the world need our support? Is our criticism of Israel really as one-sided as the pro-Israel paid commercial programs that now represent the majority of airtime on American evangelical television? Or do they merely serve as 'equal time'?

So, it would seem, according to him at least, our relationship with Israel has -- at best-- produced more effective methods of killing fellow humans because every 'benefit' he just lists would fall into that category. In which case, our foreign policy is defined by the degree of carnage it is capable of producing. Someone get every crazy dictator on the phone; they can compete for our services. Hell, we should have worked with the Soviets -- they had some reeaaaaaaly nice weapons.

His logic in a nutshell: Our relationship with Israel is good because it affords us with a bulwark against enemies -- not to mention better weapons -- that exist only because of our relationship with Israel.

This argument is completely circular. Stop supporting Israel and the necessity of supporting Israel goes away.

The US insures Israel has a qualitative military advantage over it's neighbors. Israel’s “enemies” (Egypt, Jordan regimes etc.) are “paid”, in large measure, to keep quality weapons from getting into the hands of the dispossessed natives of Palestine (which outnumber the “Jews” in Israel); the right to bare arms for Palestinians is a mortal sin to Israel's western friends. Israel can't survive without US support, it's never survived without western support. AIPAC isn't stupid.

Nutty Ron Paul never understood the advantage of having Israel bomb the Iranian and Iraqi nuke plants instead of us!

What? Last time I checked Ron Paul's position was that Israel should fight her own damned battles. In fact, Paul's position is pretty much the exact opposite. He doesn't want us bombing Iran for Israel. Iraqi nuclear plants didn't even exist, so I'm not sure what he's on about there.

It Is All About Israel
by Philip Giraldi, January 17, 2013

Something curious is taking place. The nomination of Chuck Hagel as Secretary of Defense came under fire from the friends of Israel even before it was certain that President Barack Obama would name him to the post. Hagel demonstrably has no particular animus towards Israel but he, while senator, refused to kowtow to the Israel Lobby, failing to sign on to letters and position statements, saying that he was first and foremost a United States Senator, not a representative of a foreign power. He also favors negotiations with Iran to end the nuclear standoff, which critics immediately latched onto as a sign of weakness and a further indication that he did not have Israel’s back. Bill Kristol, head of the Emergency Committee for Israel, quickly piled on to the Hagel nomination, followed by the Washington Post’s Jennifer Rubin and Charles Krauthammer, convicted Iran contra felon Elliot Abrams, reliably liberal Rachel Maddow, Harvard’s own Israel firster Alan Dershowitz, Mitt Romney adviser Dan Senor, and Johns Hopkins’ Professor Eliot Cohen. Several critics, including the American Enterprise Institute’s Danielle Pletka, accused Hagel of being anti-Semitic and Islamophobe Pamela Geller described him as a "Jew hater." Transplanted American now-living-in-Israel Caroline Glick somewhat more confusingly wrote that he "hates Jews that think that Jews have rights." Major Jewish organizations including the Anti-Defamation League and The American Jewish Committee, quickly followed suit, with ADL’s Abe Foxman saying "the sentiments he’s [Hagel’s] expressed about the Jewish lobby border on anti-Semitism in the genre of professors John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt and former president Jimmy Carter" while the AJC’s David Harris added "We’re not in the opposition camp, we’re in the concerned camp. We’re going to count on the Senate to examine, as it must, key issues of concern."

At that point a number of prominent American Jews who normally avoid any open criticism of the Israel Lobby became concerned and began to push back, noting that there was nothing to be alarmed about in Hagel’s record and that the perception that Jews as a group were blocking a qualified presidential appointment might create an unwelcome backlash. The counter-critics included prominent spokesmen like Thomas Friedman, Richard Haas, Joe Klein, Richard Cohen, Nick Kristof, David Ignatius, Aaron David Miller, and Peter Beinart and their view would appear to reflect the majority opinion of American Jews, though characteristically not the views of the leading Jewish organizations which are closely aligned with Israel’s right wing government and to major donors like Sheldon Adelson. To provide some space for the counterattack and to steer it away from being a Jewish issue, some Hagel supporters began to note that much of the opposition to the appointment was also coming from other sources, including disgruntled Republicans out to "get" Obama and defense contractors fearing budget cuts. Christian Zionists, whose unflinching support for both Israel and military spending is linked to their desire to hasten the end of the world and bring about the battle of Armageddon preceding the second coming of Christ, are also on the list.

While applauding the efforts of many Americans to pull out the stops in support the Hagel nomination, I would nevertheless argue that the attempt to identify some kind of rainbow coalition in the opposition to Hagel is pretty much a canard. It really is all about Israel, at least in the minds of most of those who seriously are seeking to block the nomination. Consider for a second whether Hagel would be facing any serious opposition at all if it were not for the claim that he is anti-Israel and not predisposed to use force against Iran. And bear in mind that Iran is really a subset of the Israel issue since it is Benjamin Netanyahu who is driving the belligerency even though the Iranians do not actually threaten the United States in any serious way. Consider also who is providing the muscle and the money to attack Hagel. It is organizations like Bill Kristol’s the Emergency Committee for Israel that was able to place a full page ad in the New York Times on Tuesday denouncing Hagel as the "anti-Israel nominee for Secretary of Defense." The ad was signed by former New York City Mayor Ed Koch as well as two currently serving Democratic Congressmen, Shelley Berkley of Nevada and Eliot Engel of New York.

Christian Zionists might not like the Hagel nomination but they are not to my knowledge placing similar full page ads in leading newspapers, nor are they appearing on television talk shows, to which they have little or no access. Nor do they have the political pull to command the presence of hundreds of congressmen at their annual conference, as the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) is able to do. Defense contractors likewise are not attacking Hagel because they know that it will be a collective White House decision where and when to cut spending and Hagel will merely be the implementer of the policy. They also understand that while budget cuts are coming no matter who is Secretary of Defense because the government is running out of money they will continue to benefit from large military appropriations, even if the spending will not be growing dramatically as it has for the past eleven years.

No, the heart of the opposition to Hagel is in the hands of the ad hoc groups pulled together by Bill Kristol and others, to include fellow travelers in congress like Senator Mark Kirk, who explains why he will oppose Hagel while trying to appear high minded: "I am concerned about his past record and statements, particularly with regard to Iran and the U.S.-Israel relationship." Kirk’s staff assistant Richard Goldberg has meanwhile been running an email campaign against Hagel consisting of multiple messages sent daily to fellow congressmen and friends in the media while Senator Lindsey Graham, who has already described Hagel as "very antagonistic toward the state of Israel," leads the charge openly from the friends-of-Israel right where he is joined by a "deeply troubled" Senator Kelly Ayotte who wants to see a "fearful" Iran. It is Kristol and company as well as the politicians they have in their pockets who have the ability to appear on television to tell the American people why they should reject Chuck Hagel. They are the ones with the money, the organization, and the media savvy to lead the fight against someone whose fealty to Israel is not sufficiently established, not Pastor John Hagee and his mewling evangelical flock in Texas. For Kristol and his associates it is indeed all about Israel and it always has been. Every nominee to a senior defense, intelligence, or security council position must be vetted and judged by whether or not they are completely committed to support the Israeli government, no matter what it does and no matter what the impact would be on American interests. That is what Bill Kristol and his friends are all about.

And for those who still doubt that it is all about Israel, I would suggest a little history lesson. In 2004 Philip Zelikow, executive director of the 9/11 Commission, admitted that the Iraq war was fought to protect Israel, which he described as "the threat that dare not speak its name." He meant that if there had not been the connivance of the Pentagon’s friends of Israel in creating a false weapons of mass destruction narrative coupled with the fulsome support of the Lobby a war on behalf of Israel would never have been endorsed by the American people. And it is also useful to review what happened to the last brave soul who dared to put American interests ahead of those of Israel. That was Chas Freeman who was proposed as Chairman of the National Intelligence Council during President Obama’s first term in 2009. Freeman had an exemplary record as a public servant and was known to be an independent thinker willing to reconsider and challenge orthodox policies. Freeman had served as Ambassador to China and Saudi Arabia and was regarded as something of an Arabist, which immediately made him suspect to the usual crowd in congress and the media. For that he was immediately attacked by Israel’s friends, in what was described as a "thunderous, coordinated assault." The critics frequently pretended that they were actually opposing Freeman’s views on China and his close personal ties to the Saudis, just as Hagel is now being falsely pilloried because he lacks management experience and because his wartime service in Vietnam will color his judgments. But no one was really fooled regarding Chas Freeman – it was all about Israel. Freeman, realizing that the debate over his views would become a distraction, asked that his name be withdrawn.

What it comes down to is that we live in a country where nearly everyone is willing to sell out if the price is right and, for the moment, Israel’s friends hold many of the cards. Being openly and enthusiastically a friend of Israel is a sine qua non on the path to power in Washington. In fact, Chuck Hagel recognizes that reality. He has recently apologized for his "errors" on Israel and Iran in an attempt to defuse the opposition to him. And only last week Senator Rand Paul, who some of us had hoped might break with the foreign policy consensus, visited Israel to burnish his presidential credentials. While there he did everything that he was expected to do and more, saying that Israel’s settlement policies are "none of our business" before adroitly backing away from cutting aid to Tel Aviv by noting that a bankrupt America would not be a good ally. "This does mean that we have to reassess who to give aid to, and when we do reassess that, I would begin with countries that are burning our flag and chanting ‘Death to America.’ No one is accusing Israel of that." So if Rand has his way a gaggle of Muslim countries will get the boot while aid to "good ally" Israel will be untouchable.

Far better that Senators Paul, Lindsay Graham and Ron Kirk should stop worrying about what is good for Israel. They might instead emulate the Chuck Hagel who once upon a time was willing to declare that he was actually an elected official representing the United States and its people. Congress is the heart of the problem, funding and providing political cover for Israel’s completely illegal settlement policies as well as the iron fist apartheid-like control of the West Bank and Gaza. As a consequence, the U.S. is widely and rightly blamed for underwriting what Benjamin Netanyahu does and is no longer respected or considered credible, but I guess for all politicians who want to become president real bad it’s considered worth it. Well, I won’t be voting for any of them. The Israel Lobby wields enormous power in Washington, but many Americans are becoming tired of having their affairs micro-managed in Tel Aviv. Blowback is beginning and I would hate to see a bunch of esteemed Senators finding themselves on the wrong side of history. That would be a real shame.

10 Reasons to Keep an Eye on AIPAC
by Medea Benjamin, February 29, 2012

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) is one of the most powerful lobby organizations in the country. On March 4-6, AIPAC will hold its annual policy conference in Washington, D.C. The speakers include Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, U.S. President Barack Obama, Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, Republican candidate Newt Gingrich, and a host of other powerful politicians.

AIPAC has tremendous clout, but its influence has been disastrous for U.S. foreign policy and U.S. democracy. Here are 10 reasons why AIPAC is so dangerous.

1. AIPAC is lobbying Congress to promote a military confrontation with Iran. AIPAC — like the Israeli government — is demanding that the United States attack Iran militarily to prevent Iran from having the technological capacity to produce nuclear weapons, even though U.S. officials say Iran isn’t trying to build a weapon (and even though Israel has hundreds of undeclared nuclear weapons). AIPAC has successfully lobbied the U.S. government to adopt crippling economic sanctions on Iran, including trying to cut off Iran’s oil exports, despite the fact that these sanctions raise the price of gas and threaten the U.S. economy.

2. AIPAC promotes Israeli policies that are in direct opposition to international law. These include the establishment of colonies (settlements) in the Occupied West Bank and the confiscation of Palestinian land in its construction of the 26-foot-high concrete “separation barrier” running through the West Bank. The support of these illegal practices makes it impossible to achieve a solution to the Israel/Palestine conflict.

3. AIPAC’s call for unconditional support for the Israeli government threatens our national security. The United States’ one-sided support of Israel, demanded by AIPAC, has significantly increased anti-American sentiment throughout the Middle East, thus endangering our troops and sowing the seeds of more possible terrorist attacks against us. Gen. David Petraeus on March 16, 2010, admitted that the Israel-Palestine conflict “foments anti-American sentiment, due to a perception of U.S. favoritism for Israel.” He also said that “Arab anger over the Palestinian question limits the strength and depth of U.S. partnerships with governments and peoples in the [region] and weakens the legitimacy of moderate regimes in the Arab world. Meanwhile, al-Qaeda and other militant groups exploit that anger to mobilize support.”

4. AIPAC undermines American support for democracy movements in the Arab world. AIPAC looks at the entire Arab world through the lens of Israeli government interests, not the democratic aspirations of the Arab people. It has therefore supported corrupt, repressive regimes that are friendly to the Israeli government, such as Egypt’s Hosni Mubarak. Events now unfolding in the Middle East should convince U.S. policymakers of the need to break from AIPAC’s grip and instead support democratic forces in the Arab world.

5. AIPAC makes the United States a pariah at the U.N. AIPAC describes the U.N. as a body hostile to the State of Israel and has pressured the U.S. government to oppose resolutions calling Israel to account. Since 1972, the United States has vetoed 44 U.N. Security Council resolutions condemning Israel’s actions against the Palestinians. President Obama continues that policy. Under Obama, the United States vetoed U.N. censure of the savage Israeli assault on Gaza in January 2009 in which about 1,400 Palestinians were killed; a 2011 resolution calling for a halt to the illegal Israeli West Bank settlements, even though this was stated U.S. policy; a 2011 resolution calling for Israel to cease obstructing the work of the U.N. Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees; and another resolution calling for an end to illegal Israeli settlement-building in East Jerusalem and the occupied Golan Heights.

6. AIPAC attacks politicians who question unconditional support of Israel. AIPAC demands that Congress to rubber-stamp legislation drafted by AIPAC staff. It keeps a record of how members of Congress vote, and this record is used by donors to make contributions to the politicians who score well. Members of Congress who fail to support AIPAC legislation have been targeted for defeat in re-election bids. These include Sens. Adlai Stevenson III and Charles H. Percy and Representatives Paul Findley, Pete McCloskey, Cynthia McKinney, and Earl F. Hilliard. AIPAC’s overwhelmingly disproportionate influence on Congress subverts our democratic system.

7. AIPAC attempts to silence all criticism of Israel by labeling critics as “anti-Semitic,” “de-legitimizers,” or “self-hating Jews.” Journalists, think tanks, students, and professors have been accused of anti-Semitism for merely taking stands critical of Israeli government policies. These attacks stifle the critical discussions and debates that are at the heart of democratic policymaking. The recent attack on staffers at the Center for American Progress is but one example of AIPAC efforts to crush all dissent.

8. AIPAC feeds U.S. government officials a distorted view of the Israel-Palestine conflict. AIPAC takes U.S. representatives on sugarcoated trips to Israel. In 2011, AIPAC took one out of every five members of Congress — and many of their spouses — on a free junket to Israel to see precisely what the Israeli government wanted them to see. It is illegal for lobby groups to take Congress members on trips, but AIPAC gets around the law by creating a bogus educational group, AIEF, to “organize” the trips for them. AIEF has the same office address as AIPAC and the same staff. These trips help cement the ties between AIPAC and Congress, furthering its undue influence.

9. AIPAC lobbies for billions of U.S. tax dollars to go to Israel instead of rebuilding America. While our country is reeling from a prolonged financial crisis, AIPAC is pushing for no cuts in military funds for Israel, a wealthy nation. With communities across the nation slashing budgets for teachers, firefighters, and police, AIPAC pushes for over $3 billion a year to Israel.

10. Money to Israel takes funds from world’s poor. Israel has the 24th-largest economy in the world, but thanks to AIPAC, it gets more U.S. tax dollars than any other country. At a time when the foreign aid budget is being slashed, keeping the lion’s share of foreign assistance for Israel means taking funds from critical programs to feed, provide shelter for, and offer emergency assistance to the world’s poorest people.

The bottom line is that AIPAC, which is a de facto agent for a foreign government, has influence on U.S. policy out of all proportion to the number of Americans who support its policies. When a small group like this has disproportionate power, that hurts everyone — including Israelis and American Jews.

From stopping a catastrophic war with Iran to finally solving the Israel-Palestine conflict, an essential starting point is breaking AIPAC’s grip on U.S. policy.

One more:

Pollard is hardly the only Israeli spy operating in the United States. He just had the misfortune to get caught. Here are just a few examples of the Israeli spy operations that have been detected.

1947. Information collected by the ADL in its spy operations on US citizens is used by the House Select Committee on Unamerican Activities. Subcommittee Chair Clare Hoffman dismisses the ADL’s reports on suspected communists as “hearsay."

1950 John Davitt, former chief of the Justice Department's internal security section notes that the Israeli intelligence service is the second most active in the United States after the Soviets.

1954 A hidden microphone planted by the Israelis is discovered in the Office of the US Ambassador in Tel Aviv.

1956 Telephone taps are found connected to two telephones in the residence of the US military attach in Tel Aviv.

1954 "The Lavon Affair". Israeli agents recruit Egyptian citizens of Jewish descent to bomb Western targets in Egypt, and plant evidence to frame Arabs, in an apparent attempt to upset US-Egyptian relations. Israeli defense minister Pinchas Lavon is eventually removed from office, though many think real responsibility lay with David Ben-Gurion.

1965 Israel apparently illegally obtains enriched uranium from NUMEC Corporation. (Washington Post, 6/5/86, Charles R. Babcock, "US an Intelligence Target of the Israelis, Officials Say.")

1967 Israel attacks the USS Liberty, an intelligence gathering vessel flying a US flag, killing 34 crew members. See "Assault on the Liberty," by James M. Ennes, Jr. (Random House). In 2004, Captain Ward Boston, Senior Legal Counsel for the Navy’s Court of Inquiry into the attack swears under oath that President Lyndon Johnson ordered the investigation to conclude accident, even though the evidence indicates the attack was deliberate. Given the use by Israel of unmarked boats and planes, and the machine-gunning of USS Liberty’s lifeboats, the most likely explanation is that USS Liberty was to be sunk with all hands, with evidence left to frame Egypt for the sinking. This would have dragged the US into the war on Israel’s side.

1970 While working for Senator Henry “Scoop” Jackson, Richard Perle is caught by the FBI giving classified information to Israel. Nothing is done.

1978, Stephen Bryen, then a Senate Foreign Relations Committee staffer, is overheard in a DC hotel offering confidential documents to top Israeli military officials. Bryen obtains a lawyer, Nathan Lewin, and the case heads for the grand jury, but is mysteriously dropped. Bryen later goes to work for Richard Perle.

1979 Shin Beth [the Israeli internal security agency] tries to penetrate the US Consulate General in Jerusalem through a “Honey Trap”, using a clerical employee who was having an affair with a Jerusalem girl.

1985 The New York Times reports the FBI is aware of at least a dozen incidents in which American officials transferred classified information to the Israelis, quoting [former Assistant Director of the F.B.I.] Mr. [Raymond] Wannal. The Justice Department does not prosecute.

1985 Richard Smyth, the owner of MILCO, is indicted on charges of smuggling nuclear timing devices to Israel (Washington Post, 10/31/86).

1987 April 24 Wall Street Journal headline: "Role of Israel in Iran-Contra Scandal Won't be Explored in Detail by Panels"

1992 The Wall Street Journal reports that Israeli agents apparently tried to steal Recon Optical Inc's top-secret airborne spy-camera system.

1992 Stephen Bryen, caught offering confidential documents to Israel in 1978, is serving on board of the pro-Israeli Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs while continuing as a paid consultant -- with security clearance -- on exports of sensitive US technology.

1992 "The Samson Option," by Seymour M. Hersh reports, “Illicitly obtained intelligence was flying so voluminously from LAKAM into Israeli intelligence that a special code name, JUMBO, was added to the security markings already on the documents. There were strict orders, Ari Ben-Menashe recalled: "Anything marked JUMBO was not supposed to be discussed with your American counterparts."

1993. The ADL is caught operating a massive spying operation on critics of Israel, Arab-Americans, the San Francisco Labor Council, ILWU Local 10, Oakland Educational Association, NAACP, Irish Northern Aid, International Indian Treaty Council, the Asian Law Caucus and the San Francisco police. Data collected was sent to Israel and in some cases to South Africa. Pressure from Jewish organizations forces the city to drop the criminal case, but the ADL settles a civil lawsuit for an undisclosed sum of cash.

1995 The Defense Investigative Service circulates a memo warning US military contractors that "Israel aggressively collects [US] military and industrial technology." The report stated that Israel obtains information using "ethnic targeting, financial aggrandizement, and identification and exploitation of individual frailties" of US citizens.

1996 A General Accounting Office report "Defense Industrial Security: Weaknesses in US Security Arrangements With Foreign-Owned Defense Contractors" found that according to intelligence sources "Country A" (identified by intelligence sources as Israel, Washington Times, 2/22/96) "conducts the most aggressive espionage operation against the United States of any US ally." The Jerusalem Post (8/30/96) quoted the report, "Classified military information and sensitive military technologies are high-priority targets for the intelligence agencies of this country." The report described "An espionage operation run by the intelligence organization responsible for collecting scientific and technologic information for [Israel] paid a US government employee to obtain US classified military intelligence documents." The Washington Report on Middle East Affairs (Shawn L. Twing, April 1996) noted that this was "a reference to the 1985 arrest of Jonathan Pollard, a civilian US naval intelligence analyst who provided Israel's LAKAM [Office of Special Tasks] espionage agency an estimated 800,000 pages of classified US intelligence information."

The GAO report also noted that "Several citizens of [Israel] were caught in the United States stealing sensitive technology used in manufacturing artillery gun tubes."

1996 An Office of Naval Intelligence document, "Worldwide Challenges to Naval Strike Warfare" reported that "US technology has been acquired [by China] through Israel in the form of the Lavi fighter and possibly SAM [surface-to-air] missile technology." Jane's Defense Weekly (2/28/96) noted that "until now, the intelligence community has not openly confirmed the transfer of US technology [via Israel] to China." The report noted that this "represents a dramatic step forward for Chinese military aviation." (Flight International, 3/13/96)

1997 An Army mechanical engineer, David A. Tenenbaum, "inadvertently" gives classified military information on missile systems and armored vehicles to Israeli officials (New York Times, 2/20/97).

1997 The Washington Post reports US intelligence has intercepted a conversation in which two Israeli officials had discussed the possibility of getting a confidential letter that then-Secretary of State Warren Christopher had written to Palestinian leader Yasir Arafat. One of the Israelis, identified only as “Dov”, had commented that they may get the letter from "Mega”, the code name for Israel’s top agent inside the United States.

1997 US ambassador to Israel, Martin Indyk, complains privately to the Israeli government about heavy-handed surveillance by Israeli intelligence agents.

1997 Israeli agents place a tap on Monica Lewinsky’s phone at the Watergate and record phone sex sessions between her and President Bill Clinton. The Ken Starr report confirms that Clinton warned Lewinsky their conversations were being taped and ended the affair. At the same time, the FBI’s hunt for “Mega” is called off.

2001 It is discovered that US drug agents’ communications have been penetrated. Suspicion falls on two companies, AMDOCS and Comverse Infosys, both owned by Israelis. AMDOCS generates billing data for most US phone companies and is able to provide detailed logs of who is talking to whom. Comverse Infosys builds the tapping equipment used by law enforcement to eavesdrop on all American telephone calls, but suspicion forms that Comverse, which gets half of its research and development budget from the Israeli government, has built a back door into the system that is being exploited by Israeli intelligence and that the information gleaned on US drug interdiction efforts is finding its way to drug smugglers. The investigation by the FBI leads to the exposure of the largest foreign spy ring ever uncovered inside the United States, operated by Israel. Half of the suspected spies have been arrested when 9-11 happens. On 9-11, 5 Israelis are arrested for dancing and cheering while the World Trade Towers collapse. Supposedly employed by Urban Moving Systems, the Israelis are caught with multiple passports and a lot of cash. Two of them are later revealed to be Mossad. As witness reports track the activity of the Israelis, it emerges that they were seen at Liberty Park at the time of the first impact, suggesting a foreknowledge of what was to come. The Israelis are interrogated, and then eventually sent back to Israel. The owner of the moving company used as a cover by the Mossad agents abandons his business and flees to Israel. The United States Government then classifies all of the evidence related to the Israeli agents and their connections to 9-11. All of this is reported to the public via a four part story on Fox News by Carl Cameron. Pressure from Jewish groups, primarily AIPAC, forces Fox News to remove the story from their website. Two hours prior to the 9-11 attacks, Odigo, an Israeli company with offices just a few blocks from the World Trade Towers, receives an advance warning via the internet. The manager of the New York Office provides the FBI with the IP address of the sender of the message, but the FBI does not follow up.

2001 The FBI is investigating 5 Israeli moving companies as possible fronts for Israeli intelligence.

2001 JDL’s Irv Rubin arrested for planning to bomb a US Congressman. He dies before he can be brought to trial.

2002 The DEA issues a report that Israeli spies, posing as art students, have been trying to penetrate US Government offices.

2002 police near the Whidbey Island Naval Air Station in southern Washington State stop a suspicious truck and detain two Israelis, one of whom is illegally in the United States. The two men were driving at high speed in a Ryder rental truck, which they claimed had been used to "deliver furniture." The next day, police discovered traces of TNT and RDX military-grade plastic explosives inside the passenger cabin and on the steering wheel of the vehicle. The FBI then announces that the tests that showed explosives were “false positived” by cigarette smoke, a claim test experts say is ridiculous. Based on an alibi provided by a woman, the case is closed and the Israelis are handed over to INS to be sent back to Israel. One week later, the woman who provided the alibi vanishes.

2003 The Police Chief of Cloudcroft stops a truck speeding through a school zone. The drivers turn out to be Israelis with expired passports. Claiming to be movers, the truck contains junk furniture and several boxes. The Israelis are handed over to immigration. The contents of the boxers are not revealed to the public.

2003 Israel deploys assassination squads into other countries, including the United States. The US Government does not protest.

2004 Police near the Nuclear Fuel Services plant in Tennessee stop a truck after a three mile chase, during which the driver throws a bottle containing a strange liquid from the cab. The drivers turn out to be Israelis using fake Ids. The FBI refuses to investigate and the Israelis are released.

2004 Two Israelis try to enter Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base, home to eight Trident submarines. The truck tests positive for explosives.

This brings us to the present scandal. Two years into an investigation of AIPAC’s possible role as a spy front for Israel, Larry Franklin, a mid-level Pentagon Analyst is observed by the FBI giving classified information to two officials of AIPAC suspected of being Israeli spies. AIPAC hires lawyer Nathan Lewin to handle their legal defense, the same lawyer who defended suspected Israeli spy Stephen Bryen in 1978.

Larry Franklin worked in the Pentagon Office of Special Plans, run by Richard Perle, at the time Perle (who was caught giving classified information to Israel back in 1970) was insisting that Iraq was crawling with weapons of mass destruction requiring the United States to invade and conquer Iraq. There were no WMDs, of course, and Perle has dumped the blame for the “bad intelligence” on George Tenet. But what is known is that the Pentagon Office of Special Plans was coordinating with a similar group in Israel, in Ariel Sharon’s office.

With two suspected Israeli spies (at least) inside the office from which the lies that launched the war in Iraq originated, it appears that the people of the United States are the victims of a deadly hoax, a hoax that started a war.

The leaking of the investigation of AIPAC to the media on August 28th, 2004 gave advance warning to other spies working with Franklin. The damage to the FBI’s investigation was completed when United States Attorney General John Ashcroft ordered the FBI to stop all arrests in the case. Like the Stephen Bryen case and the hunt for “Mega”, this latest spy scandal seems destined to be buried by officials who have their own secret allegiances to protect, barring a massive public outcry.

The organization at the heart of the latest spy investigation, AIPAC, wields tremendous influence over the US Congress. Through its members and affiliated PACs, AIPAC directs a huge flow of campaign cash in favor of, and occasionally against, Senators and Representatives solely on the basis of their willingness to support Israel. As an example, in 2002, U.S. Rep. Artur Davis, D-Birmingham received so much help from pro-Israeli pacs that 76% of his campaign budget came from OUTSIDE the state of Alabama, mostly from New York.

Let me repeat that. A Congressman AIPAC wanted elected received more money from pro-Israel groups outside his state than from his own constituents inside his state. Who is that Congressman going to be thinking of when he votes in Congress?

So here is the mother of all scandals.

For two years, the FBI has suspected AIPAC of spying for a foreign country, and for those two years (and for decades before) that group suspected of spying for Israel has been reshaping the US Congress for the benefit of a foreign government.

And THAT is the mother of all scandals.

Think about that as billions of your tax dollars flow to Israel while your roads and schools crumble and decay and services are cut.

Think about that as the coffins come home with your loved ones inside.

Think about that when you and a million of your fellow citizens march down the streets of America opposing wars built on lies and deceptions and wonder why the government just doesn’t want to listen to you any more.

The US insures Israel has a qualitative military advantage over it's neighbors. Israel’s “enemies” (Egypt, Jordan regimes etc.) are “paid”, in large measure, to keep quality weapons from getting into the hands of the dispossessed natives of Palestine (which outnumber the “Jews” in Israel); the right to bare arms for Palestinians is a mortal sin to Israel's friends. Israel can't survive without US support, it's never survived without western support. AIPAC isn't stupid.

How supportive was the US to Israel between 48-68? As I understand it, America has only really been friendly with Israel since the 70's ?

They use OUR blood and
treasure for THEIR problems.

Please tell me when a single American who died fighting for Israel on Israeli soil?

One name of one American soldier!

Name one time when American soldiers have ever fought for Israel?

EVER!!

< Blood does not have to be spilled on another nations soil for it to be spilled in that nations war. This is called "war by proxy." The U.S. acting as a third party for Israeli interests in the region.>

Nutty Ron Paul never understood the advantage of having Israel bomb the Iranian and Iraqi nuke plants instead of us!

<Ron Paul has no problem with how a sovereign nation conducts its own affairs. The Israelis were doing us NO favors.>

RR sent our boys into the pit of Lebanon and got 444 of them murdered on Lebanese soil...

< and we shouldn't have been there either.>

When did an American die fighting for Israel on Israeli soil?

<see above>

In 1956, when Egypt nationalized the Suez Canal and Israel, France, and England attempted to free it,

it was the US who told Israel to disengage against it's national interes...

Israel pulled back as asked!

< What right do we have to interfere in a situation that did not pose a threat to America,>

Iraq, whom we freed from a dictator is now closer to Iran than us!

< That's what foreign intervention brings. Something Ron Paul cautions against.>

Afghanistan continues to reward our blood with opium exports!

< Again. Something that Ron Paul objects to.>

> As well as eual animosity. Blow back. >

< What threat to the U.S. do Iraq, Iran, Syria, and even Jordan and Lebanon pose to the U.S. ?>

The cooperative military ventures between Israel and the United States are nothing

short of spectacular. The strategic value derived from these joint projects is hard to measure, and

the lives they save makes them priceless.

< Tell that to the mothers and fathers that fight Israels proxy wars.>

The Arrow missile, as was shown recently, promises to be

an indispensable replacement for the useful, yet not quite useful enough, Patriot missile system.

< Are we not capable of improving our own? Why should we leave the defense of our country up to others>

From the Tactical High Energy Laser (THEL) and satellite technology, to Israel's state of the art

Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAVs)

< The one's the U.S. government is using to spy on America? >

and down to more mundane military matters, the U.S. takes advantage

of Israel's technological prowess and pioneering spirit.

< Which proves the point decisively that we are not needed in that region. Ron Paul has even pointed this out.>

So, some of my fellow Americans are apparently uniformed or willfully ignorant in their one-sided

criticism of Israel when it comes to this U.S. foreign aid red herring. They don't seem to object

to Arab states which take the same American money that Israel gets,

< No. We do that also. We shouldn't have to buy friendship>

while giving back little outside

of empty rhetoric and opium.

The truth is if Israel wasn't there, we'd beg to invent it.

< And given our need of Empire we probably would.>

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2013/01/30/chuck-hagel-haters-mobilize-ahead-of-thursday-confirmation-hearings.html

an analysis by the Sunlight Foundation (http://reporting.sunlightfoundation.com/2013/anti-hagel-groups/) found that $123,000 has been spent on anti-Hagel TV ads by these outside groups. US News (http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2013/01/29/the-secret-enemies-of-chuck-hagel) reported that at least five of these groups have formed an anti-Hagel campaign, buying up TV, newspaper, and online ads in an attempt to influence senators against voting for him. Even the domain chuckhagel.com (http://www.chuckhagel.com/) was snapped up by the nonprofit Emergency Committee for Israel, and comes up as an ad at the top of Google search results with a homepage that screams, “Chuck Hagel is Not a Responsible Option.” Hagel’s positions and off-the-cuff comments haven’t endeared him to the pro-Israel lobbyists and politicians. He once declared that he’s “not an Israeli senator,” threw out a remark about the “Jewish lobby,” and criticized the country’s dealings with Lebanese militant group Hizbullah.

“Chuck Hagel’s record on Israel, on Iran, and on other vital defense issues is cause for real concern,” Republican Jewish Coalition Executive Director Matt Brooks said in a press release (http://www.algemeiner.com/2013/01/25/politicians-from-both-parties-jewish-leaders-oppose-hagel-nomination-in-rjc-ad-video/) for the release of an ad (http://www.youtube.com/watch?&v=sPAeWe5rsf8) urging senators not to vote for Hagel.

While many Democrats seem to back Obama’s pick, the sentiment against Hagel isn’t entirely Republican. Rep. Eliot Engel, the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, shared concerns over Hagel’s Israel stance in an interview on C-SPAN (http://thecable.foreignpolicy.com/posts/2012/12/21/top_house_democrat_hagel_has_an_endemic_hostility_ towards_israel), saying, “It seems there is some kind of an endemic hostility towards Israel and that’s troublesome to me and troublesome to a lot of people.”

AT&T the wiretapping rooms are powered by software and hardware from Narus, now owned by Boeing, a discovery made by AT&T whistleblower Mark Kleinin 2004. Narus did not return a call seeking comment. What is especially troubling is that both companies have had extensive ties to Israel, as well as links to that country’s intelligence service, a country with a long and aggressive history of spying on the U.S.”
[former National Security Agency official Bill] Binney, the advanced analytical and data mining software the NSA had developed for both its worldwide and international eavesdropping operations was secretly passed to Israel by a mid-level employee, apparently with close connections to the country. The employee, a technical director in the Operations Directorate, ‘who was a very strong supporter of Israel,’ said Binney, ‘gave, unbeknownst to us, he gave the software that we had, doing these fast rates, to the Israelis.’”
There has been no prosecution, and this incident has never been made public: why is that? If someone high up in the NSA has been handing over sensitive technology to a foreign government, doesn’t this qualify as a criminal act – or even news? Yet this is the first anyone has heard of it.
According to Bamford, Binney suspects “Israeli intelligence in turn passed the technology on to Israeli companies who operate in countries around the world, including the U.S. In return, the companies could act as extensions of Israeli intelligence and pass critical military, economic and diplomatic information back to them. ‘And then five years later, four or five years later, you see a Narus device,’ he said. ‘I think there’s a connection there, we don’t know for sure.’”

Why is the government not prosecuting whoever handed the NSA’s software over to the Israelis? Why does Washington deny or deflect all questions dealing with Israel’s extensive covert operations in the US?

http://www.lrb.co.uk/v28/n06/john-mearsheimer/the-israel-lobby
No, it’s not the vaunted power of the Israel lobby, or, at least, not only that. After all, what we’re talking about here is an Israeli “back door” into our most sensitive government communications, a penetration so complete that it places the security of the nation in mortal danger – and puts the privacy and civil liberties of all US citizens at risk. In Britain, they are proposing legislation that would allow real-time snooping on every sort of communication device, giving the government access to everyone’s phone conversations, emails, and web-surfing habits. We have the technology to do this, and no doubt are already doing it: that’s what operation “Stellar Wind” is all about.

Israel’s Nuclear Triggers: Secret files reveal brazen espionage and dangerous immunity

FBI files detailing Israel’s stealth acquisition of U.S. nuclear triggers were declassified and released on Dec. 28, 2011. The FBI’s secret Portland and Los Angeles inter-office communications were originally scheduled for release in the year 2036. Their availability today reveals how Israel’s elite spy networks acquire U.S. nuclear technologies while evading criminal and diplomatic consequences.

AIPAC Spy Figure: “Zionist” Wanted Me Dead
http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/07/aipac_spy_figure_zionist_wanted_me_dead.php

The declassified details of Smyth’s and Milchan’s flight, elite influence networks, and near complete lack of accountability over the kryton case fits neatly into a larger emerging set of attributes common to many major Israeli espionage efforts in the United States. As happened during NUMEC’s diversion of weapons-grade nuclear material to Israel, apparently more time was spent exploring Milchan’s elite connections than figuring out how to indict LAKAM’s nuclear technology operative. As in the case of the Lawrence Franklin AIPAC espionage affair, the mysterious figures who offered to spirit the main operative out of the United States to overseas safe houses were never apprehended or even publicly identified.
In America today, open financial support for Israel’s clandestine nuclear program is becoming more brazen even as many of its supporters and lobbyists demand U.S. military attacks on Iran’s nuclear program. The American Committee for the Weizmann Institute raises millions in tax-deductible funding for its Israeli parent organization, which was found in a 1987 Pentagon-sponsored study to have developed a cutting-edge high-energy physics and hydrodynamics program “needed for nuclear bomb design.” The Weizmann Institute advanced methods for enriching uranium to weapons-grade through the use of lasers even as the United States worried that Weizmann’s networked supercomputers were being used to reduce the size of warheads. Despite public calls for an IRS review of its tax-exempt status, the American Committee plows on announcing new corporate grants, ever confident that its elite overlapping board, which has included such luminaries as AIPAC/WINEP chairman emeritus Robert Asher, will back Weizmann, ensuring that nuclear funding continues to flow.

How supportive was the US to Israel between 48-68? As I understand it, America has only really been friendly with Israel since the 70's ?

In the later 1940’s, US weapons to the Zionists were vital: "Arming David: The Haganah's Illegal Arms Procurement Network in the United States, 1945–49 (http://www.palestine-studies.org/enakba/military/Calhoun,%20Arming%20David.pdf)".

From then up until the late 1960’s or so, France was Israel’s main weapons provider (although it's received foreign aid from the US throughout its history). Weapons from Britain and Britain's backing of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan (the Hashemites are Saudi imports) was also vital to Israel’s creation and survival for many years. Awareness of these facts is why I wrote “western” support, in my sentence “it's never survived without western support”.

How supportive was the US to Israel between 48-68? As I understand it, America has only really been friendly with Israel since the 70's ?

U.S. Officials oppose creation of Israel
The U.S. State Department opposed this partition plan strenuously, considering Zionism contrary to both fundamental American principles and U.S. interests.

For example, the director of the State Department’s Office of Near Eastern and African Affairs consistently recommended against supporting a Jewish state in Palestine. The director, named Loy Henderson, warned that the creation of such a state would go against locals’ wishes, imperil U.S. interests and violate democratic principles.

Henderson emphasized that the U.S. would lose moral standing in the world if it supported Zionism:

“At the present time the United States has a moral prestige in the Near and Middle East unequaled by that of any other great power. We would lose that prestige and would be likely for many years to be considered as a betrayer of the high principles which we ourselves have enunciated during the period of the [second world] war.”[109]

When Zionists began pushing the partition plan in the UN, Henderson recommended strongly against supporting their proposal, saying that such a partition would have to be implemented by force and was “not based on any principle.” He warned that partition “would guarantee that the Palestine problem would be permanent and still more complicated in the future…”

Henderson elaborated further on how plans to partition Palestine would violate American and UN principles:

“...[Proposals for partition] are in definite contravention to various principles laid down in the [UN] Charter as well as to principles on which American concepts of Government are based. These proposals, for instance, ignore such principles as self-determination and majority rule. They recognize the principle of a theocratic racial state and even go so far in several instances as to discriminate on grounds of religion and race…”[110]

Zionists attacked Henderson virulently, calling him “anti-Semitic,” demanding his resignation, and threatening his family. They pressured the State Department to transfer him elsewhere; one analyst describes this as “the historic game of musical chairs” in which officials who recommended Middle East policies “consistent with the nation’s interests” were moved on.[111]

In 1948 Truman sent Henderson to the slopes of the Himalayas, as Ambassador to Nepal (then officially under India). (In recent years, at times virtually every State Department country desk has been directed by a Zionist.)

But Henderson was far from alone in making his recommendations. He wrote that his views were not only those of the entire Near East Division but were shared by “nearly every member of the Foreign Service or of the [State] Department who has worked to any appreciable extent on Near Eastern problems.”[112]

He wasn’t exaggerating. Official after official and agency after agency opposed Zionism.

In 1947 the CIA reported that Zionist leadership was pursuing objectives that would endanger both Jews and “the strategic interests of the Western powers in the Near and Middle East."[113]

Ambassador Henry F. Grady, who has been called “America’s top diplomatic soldier for a critical period of the Cold War,” headed a 1946 commission aimed at coming up with a solution for Palestine. Grady later wrote about the Zionist lobby and its damaging effect on U.S. national interests.
“I have had a good deal of experience with lobbies but this group started where those of my experience had ended,” wrote Grady. “I have headed a number of government missions but in no other have I ever experienced so much disloyalty…. [I]n the United States, since there is no political force to counterbalance Zionism, its campaigns are apt to be decisive.”[114]

Grady concluded that without Zionist pressure, the U.S. would not have had “the ill-will with the Arab states, which are of such strategic importance in our ‘cold war’ with the soviets.”[115]

Former Undersecretary of State Dean Acheson also opposed Zionism. Acheson’s biographer writes that Acheson “worried that the West would pay a high price for Israel.” Another author, John Mulhall, records Acheson’s warning of the danger for U.S. interests:

** “...to transform [Palestine] into a Jewish State capable of receiving a million or more immigrants would vastly exacerbate the political problem and imperil not only American but all Western interests in the Near East.”[116]

The head of the State Department’s Division of Near Eastern Affairs, Gordon P. Merriam, warned against the partition plan on moral grounds:
** “U.S. support for partition of Palestine as a solution to that problem can be justified only on the basis of Arab and Jewish consent. Otherwise we should violate the principle of self-determination which has been written into the Atlantic Charter, the declaration of the United Nations, and the United Nations Charter – a principle that is deeply embedded in our foreign policy. Even a United Nations determination in favor of partition would be, in the absence of such consent, a stultification and violation of UN’s own charter.” [117]

Merriam added that without consent, “bloodshed and chaos” would follow, a tragically accurate prediction.

An internal State Department memorandum accurately predicted how Israel would be born through armed aggression masked as defense:

** “...the Jews will be the actual aggressors against the Arabs. However, the Jews will claim that they are merely defending the boundaries of a state which were traced by the UN.… In the event of such Arab outside aid the Jews will come running to the Security Council with the claim that their state is the object of armed aggression and will use every means to obscure the fact that it is their own armed aggression against the Arabs inside which is the cause of Arab counter-attack.”[118]

And American Vice Consul William J. Porter foresaw one last outcome of the “partition” plan: that no Arab state would actually ever come to be in Palestine.[119]

Truman Accedes to Pro-Israel Lobby
President Harry Truman, however, ignored this advice and chose instead to support the Zionist partition plan. Truman’s political advisor, Clark Clifford, believed that the Jewish vote and contributions were essential to winning the upcoming presidential election, and that supporting the partition plan would garner that support. (Truman’s opponent, Dewey, took similar stands for similar reasons.)

Truman’s Secretary of State George Marshall, the renowned World War II General and author of the Marshall Plan, was furious to see electoral considerations taking precedence over policies based on national interest. He condemned what he called a “transparent dodge to win a few votes,” which would make “[t]he great dignity of the office of President seriously diminished.”[120]

Marshall wrote that the counsel offered by Clifford “was based on domestic political considerations, while the problem which confronted us was international. I said bluntly that if the President were to follow Mr. Clifford’s advice and if in the elections I were to vote, I would vote against the President.…”[121]

Secretary of Defense James Forrestal also tried, unsuccessfully, to oppose the Zionists. He was outraged that Truman’s Mideast policy was based on what he called “squalid political purposes,” asserting that “United States policy should be based on United States national interests and not on domestic political considerations.”[122]

Forrestal represented the general Pentagon view when he said that “no group in this country should be permitted to influence our policy to the point where it could endanger our national security.”[123]

A report by the National Security Council warned that the Palestine turmoil was acutely endangering the security of the United States. A CIA report stressed the strategic importance of the Middle East and its oil resources.

Similarly, George F. Kennan, the State Department’s Director of Policy Planning, issued a top-secret document on January 19, 1947 that outlined the enormous damage done to the U.S.by the partition plan (“Report by the Policy Planning Staff on Position of the United States with Respect to Palestine”).[124]

Kennan cautioned that “important U.S. oil concessions and air base rights” could be lost through U.S.support for partition and warned that the USSR stood to gain by the partition plan.

Kermit Roosevelt, Teddy Roosevelt’s nephew and a legendary intelligence agent, was another who was deeply disturbed by events, noting:
“The process by which Zionist Jews have been able to promote American support for the partition of Palestine demonstrates the vital need of a foreign policy based on national rather than partisan interests…. Only when the national interests of the United States, in their highest terms, take precedence over all other considerations, can a logical, farseeing foreign policy be evolved. No American political leader has the right to compromise American interests to gain partisan votes…”[125]

Kermit Roosevelt went on:
“The present course of world crisis will increasingly force upon Americans the realization that their national interests and those of the proposed Jewish state in Palestine are going to conflict. It is to be hoped that American Zionists and non-Zionists alike will come to grips with the realities of the problem.”

Truman wrote in his memoirs: “I do not think I ever had as much pressure and propaganda aimed at the White House as I had in this instance.” There were now about a million dues-paying Zionists in the U.S.[126]

Then, as now, in addition to unending pressure there was financial compensation, Truman reportedly receiving a suitcase full of money from Zionists while on his train campaign around the country.[127]

Nutty Ron Paul never understood the advantage of having Israel bomb the Iranian and Iraqi nuke plants instead of us!

Actually he does, Ron never objected to this and in fact one of the things he stresses time and again is that Israel should do what it feels it must, just we should not get involved.

RR sent our boys into the pit of Lebanon and got 444 of them murdered on Lebanese soil...

I don't even understand this statement??? What does this have to do with Ron Paul?

When did an American die fighting for Israel on Israeli soil?

As others have pointed out you don't have to die on their soil to die fighting for them by proxy.

In 1956, when Egypt nationalized the Suez Canal and Israel, France, and England attempted to free it, it was the US who told Israel to disengage against it's national interes...Israel pulled back as asked!

True, I am not one of the conspiracy types who thinks Israel rules the world, in fact many of the organizations that some on here seem to think "wag the dog" like the CFR, UN, etc are really just the other way around, they are puppets for our leaders. Anytime America wants to do something they know people won't go for they end run with the UN or something like that. Israel does benefit from us fighting their enemies for them no doubt, but at the end of the day all Israel is is a way for the Govt to get a bunch of naive Christians worked up and willing to go to war. (I have no issue with Christianity BTW, just some of them)

Iraq, whom we freed from a dictator is now closer to Iran than us!

????????????

Afghanistan continues to reward our blood with opium exports!

Yes, and Ron's been pretty clear about that whole thing as well right?

Many of Israel's most ardent critics in the U.S.(the Ron Paul crowd)decry the amount of foreign aid that the United States gives to Israel. So, some of my fellow Americans are apparently uniformed or willfully ignorant in their one-sided criticism of Israel when it comes to this U.S. foreign aid red herring. They don't seem to object to Arab states which take the same American money that Israel gets, while giving back little outside of empty rhetoric and opium.

Is he joking? Does he even know who Ron Paul is? Ron has stated time and again he wants to cut off ALL foreign aid, not just to Israel.

The truth is if Israel wasn't there, we'd beg to invent it.

Just who does he mean by "we"? I sure wouldn't nor do I think Ron Paul would.

Your friend seems to putting alot of words into Ron Paul's mouth, as well as Ron Paul's supporters, I don't hate Israel, nor do I think they tell us what to do, they do influence our foreign policy and politics in many ways however, even if they are the pawn instead of the player, that can't be denied.

I think it was when Israel bombed Iran (or iraq i forgot) nuclear power plant. All the congressmen condemned israel for it, but Ron supported Israel by saying Israel has the right to do what they need to do to survive by themselves.

Actually when Congress and the Reagan administration sought to condemn Israel for bombing Osirak, Ron Paul refused to join in the chorus of boos and defended Israel's right to act.

Was Ron defending their right to act, or their right to make their own decisions? As in, we should stay out of it and therefore neither condone nor condemn?

The latter. As I recal, he said they have to decide their own actions and take their own consequences as a sovereign nation.

I make it a point not to argue with genocidal psychopaths like your professor.

FACT: Israel is a racist nation committing genocide on the native people of Palestine.

FACT: Israel used terror attacks to kill Americans in the Lavon Affair.

FACT: Israel used a cowardly sneak attack against the U.S.S. Liberty attempting to sink her in a failed false flag attack killing 34 American Sailors.

FACT: Over 100 Israeli spies in the U.S. were arrested after 9/11 and then release back to Israel.
