BEAVER, Pa. (AP) — Joking about guns in school is never a good idea, and may never be a worse idea than during a lockdown drill to practice keeping students safe during a shooting.
But police say they’ve charged two students at the Beaver Area Academic Charter School with sending gun-related Twitter messages during just such a drill Jan. 24.
An 18-year-old student is charged with making terroristic threats and a younger student is charged in juvenile court.
Beaver Area schools superintendent John Hansen says the charter school students were participating in the drill because the school uses a building on the high school’s grounds.
It was reported that the 18-year-old allegedly tweeted about bringing guns to school and later posted a comment about where the students were gathered and said “come massacre us.”
No weapons were found.
