Elkhart County Sheriff Brad Rogers has been invited to appear on CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360 tonight to offer his viewpoint on the gun control debate.

According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, Rogers will appear with several other guests. He’ll be there to offer a “Constitutional sheriff perspective,” according to the release.

Rogers has previously expressed his views on gun control in the following statement:

The US Constitution, Article I, Section 8, is clear what the Federal government should concern themselves in our nation. Gun control is not one of them. The issue of any gun laws should be the individual states. However, in that endeavor, the states are limited by their own constitutions. For example, The Indiana Constitution has a clear message in Article I, Section 32: “The people shall have a right to bear arms, for the defense of themselves and the State.” As a Sheriff who upholds his Oath of Office to support and defend the US and Indiana Constitutions, I will not be a part of enforcing any federal law or presidential order that is contrary to those Constitutions. As such, there are concerns from citizens of this county that there may be a gun confiscation, of which will not occur in this county while I am Sheriff. As for those seeking gun permits, the increased demand for gun permits are absolutely not a concern for this Sheriff. The more people who are carrying firearms for legal purposes, the more polite our society will be. I do encourage firearm owners to have the ability to keep firearms secure from children and burglars, and to receive appropriate training from civilian firearms trainers.

I'll bet he doesn't feel that way about the 4th amendment when kicking in peoples doors over marijuana gardens. SOrry, I'm hesitant to support any of these guys, they should be following ALL of the Constitution, not just parts of it.

I personally know Sheriff Rogers and he believes that we should follow the whole Constitution, both state and federal. He opposes federal drug regulations, and believes that those decisions should be made on the state and local level. He will follow laws, but only if they are Constitutional.

I took Firearm Safety in an Indiana school during my sophomore year in Chemistry :P Our Chemistry teacher arranged it because he felt it was important and anyone who did not want to participate was excused to study hall.

Appears that he is working the "pocket book" angle:

"Elkhart County Sheriff Brad Rogers estimated in 2011 that the annual cost of incarceration per inmate was between $20,000 and $40,000. Rogers has been in favor of sentencing reforms, as has state Rep. Wes Culver of Goshen. We’re pleased that their minds are open to more common-sense solutions."

The legal analyst just pooped in his mouth. Sheriff Rogers just spelled out what the Supremacy Clause enables the feds to do, outside of that, they cannot do anything. They may only make the necessary laws that carry out those powers enumerated in Article I, Section 8 and the rest of the Constitution. Furthermore, the Second Amendment doesn't say that weapon A is allowed, but not weapon B. Arms are arms... if you can 'bear them', they cannot be infringed against. They cannot use the Supremacy Clause to back up unconstitutional laws.
