View Full Version : I will pledge to NEVER say the Pledge of Allegiance again, as long as I live.

From another thread, in which some pissed off gun owners made a little noise at a political meeting in NY state.

A request from an audience member to recite the Pledge of Allegiance was ignored by the State.

So the people took over and assertively recited it anyway.

Why is this socialist, statist drivel so revered?

Why the hell would you be pledging "allegiance" to your oppressors?

I will never say that nonsense again, as long as I live.

This is better:

There is no requirement to recite it in the FEMA camps. You're in luck.

Even sicker to pledge allegiance to a government that is oppressing you.

And now for a rousing chorus of L'Internationale

I never say it when I find myself at places that say it, and I never stand up, either. I never recited it in school, either, I stood up to avoid the drama, but never said anything. My kids don't, either.;)

I think what they are intending to do when they recite it is to make a statement that what is going on today has nothing to do with our Constitution, nor our Founders' intent. Although, it would make more sense for them to do something like recite the Declaration of Independence, or something like that.

I haven't said it in years, though depending on the company I'm in I'll stand to avoid drama.

The only thing about the pledge of allegiance I like is it's just about the only time you hear of the US being properly reffered to as a republic anymore... Or have they changed that in public schools recently?

Yep, agree with most of you here. I pledge allegiance to my God and my family and no one else; not my church, not my friends and certainly not my fucking government. I would perhaps pledge my support to patriots and my countrymen in their time of need.

I prefer the National Anthem, or the Oath of Office. I've been known to recite my officer's oath instead of the pledge to some odd looks.

I, _____, having been appointed an officer in the Army of the United States, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservations or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God."

If we are not ready to withstand some drama, then we are doomed.

Every day should have some confrontation and drama with the system.

(And don't get me wrong, I've done the same thing myself.)

Back in the day when I was in the re-education camps commonly known as high school I would refuse to stand for the pledge of allegiance to the masters of this country because even then I knew our govt was a tyrannical oppressive state. I would just sit in my desk while I got lectured by my babysitters or get yelled at when I got home when the teacher would call my parents.

Glad to see more people of like mind WRT Bellamy's disgusting, fascist meme/invention. As much as I disagree with most of the FF's, they seem to have had the decency and common sense not to worship State icons. Like others here, I never make a big protest scene when asked to pledge. I just remain silent and think happy thoughts.
I'm always reminded of the below scene when I hear the pledge nowadays. :(

I am certain if you started reciting the Declaration of Independence in public that you would get a good beating and tasering and get to spend some time in a cage to think about what you've done.

I read an article the other day where some police force or something was made to give their oath, not to defend the constitution, but to defend the government. Twitter didn't like it, and neither did I.

On the other hand, at one of Ron's campaign rallies, the one in Vancouver, I believe, they didn't have a flag, so someone went up front and asked if it was ok if they said the pledge to the Constitution, because she DID have a copy of the Constitution.

I liked that, actually.

I am quite assured of that.

In fact, I could pretty much guaren-damn-tee that reading the Declaration, especially if you just ever so slightly paraphrased it, would get you arrested.

Yes, they replaced Republic with Democracy, and "under God" with "under Richard Dawkins".

Oh, you think that's it? Pray tell, whatever gave you that idea?

"Pissed off gun owners" were reciting it. That's why. Most people who are pissed off at our government stomping over their constitutional rights do not obviously believe our government is adhering to the Constitution.

When I sing something like God Bless America, I am most certainly not expressing my support for the people occupying our government. I am wishing for the country I grew up in. When Americans had some semblance of understanding of the principles upon which this country was founded and that once made us the most free and prosperous country the world had ever known.

So, I think when they recited the Pledge of Allegiance, they were doing much the same. They were pledging allegiance to the country they once knew. The country they want back.

Although I was never officially a member when I went to a few John Birch Society meetings (during Obama's first term) they always said the pledge at the beginning of the meeting. The local chapter was headed by someone on both the JBS National Council and Executive Committee. I'm not making a judgement either way about the pledge or the JBS, just pointing this out.

I think most people just think of the pledge as a tribute to the nation, except those who sit it out to show they don't believe in the line 'under God' (kids do do that.)

But as I learned the history of it as an adult, it does make you think about the symbolism. I really do prefer the idea of pledging to the Constitution.

"Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice, and moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue. Therefore, fuck this inverted top-down government."

This is my Pledge of Allegiance, recited by me each time I find myself in a herd of sheep BAAing to the flag. Typically, my voice is a bit louder than my wife would like. She'd say she just can't take me anywhere.

Because it is a knee jerk reaction for them. Whenever you start a meeting relating to freedom, or government you say the pledge. Every day at school, you say the pledge. You think that "The Whitest Kids you Know" sketch was a joke, but it isn't.

I haven't pledged allegiance since I've been reeducated by the Ron Paul Revolution... :)

While doing some networking before the Iowa caucus of January 2012 a year ago,
I went to a local county tea party meeting in late December . . .
It seemed ok as the meeting was to begin to go along and pledge to the USA flag then, but after the alternate delegate shenanigans,
well, yeah . . . I'd do it again, but mostly as respect for my Dad a WWII Navy veteran of the Solomon Islands theatre

Good point. The skit was funny, but it's actually shockingly accurate. Kids come in, recite mindlessly the pledge, and many of them who are deemed strange for whatever reason (as kids are often wont to be) get Ritalin at school.
