View Full Version : Maybe we're being too hard on Obama about gun control

I mean he's only asking for republicans to compromise on common sense gun control measures to help stop these senseless shootings. Why don't we ask him to get together with a well known republican, representing the rest of us, to discuss the matter. See where we could find some common ground. It only seems fair.

Why don't we petition whitehouse.gov to ask Obama to get together and go duck hunting...

... with Dick Cheney!

I think our biggest problem is the top down approach. Gun Control is not something for the Federal Govt to decide. In fact, in our Bill of Rights, "Congress shall pass no law", which means the Federal Govt is expressly denied the PRIVILEDGE of passing a law that restricts our Gun Rights.

If laws are to be passed, they need to be done either at a State or Local level, but not Federal.

Since most of the congress critters don't know one end of a gun from the other we should ask them to allow citizens to own Personal Defense Weapons so we can protect ourselves from those who would do us harm.

A boating trip with Robert Wagner would be acceptable.

NO.

On June 28, 2010, the Supreme Court, in a 5–4 decision, reversed the Seventh Circuit's decision, holding that the Second Amendment (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution ) was incorporated under the Fourteenth Amendment (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourteenth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitu tion) thus protecting those rights from infringement by local governments.

The Court held that the right of an individual to "keep and bear arms" protected by the Second Amendment is incorporated (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incorporation_of_the_Bill_of_Rights) by the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourteenth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitu tion#Due_Process_Clause) and applies to the states.

No government; federal, state, or local can deny an American's unalienble right to self defense in arms.

Their swords and every terrible implement of the soldier are the birthright of Americans.
The unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state governments
but where, I trust in God, it will always remain, in the hands of the people.

I agree, I think the bill of rights are like from universal matter. We have rights even if they aren't recognized (as in even if the Constitution was changed). More freedom, not less. More common sense, not less. More love, not less.
