This is in the Honduras. It will be interesting to see what develops there..........like, I don't know.........employment? Prosperity?

Here's another for an island near Detroit:

I don't have time to search it but this might have fell through. (the article is a few months old) There was going to be a "free city" in Honduras but last I heard their supreme court ruled against important legislation required for it to be legal.

Regarding the one in Detroit - I very much doubt people would end up living there. Most likely corporations would move there for tax reasons and the workers would commute from the mainland. I like the idea, but I don't think it would be a place where people would actually live and grow a family.

However, I''m not going to be fooled. The people who would make the rules/laws here most likely don't want pure economic freedom. I'd be willing to bet that drugs would be illegal to manufacture and sell, you couldn't transform your home (if you had one) into a retail establishment, there would probably be numerous other strict zoning laws that essentially eliminate economic freedom, and safety requirements would probably be just like anywhere else regarding restaurants and other retail businesses. It would end up becoming a cesspool for these so called conservatives that are always on Fox News. It wouldn't be about freedom, it would be about their own way of life.

Heh, being right down the highway from Detroit I've been hearing all the hoopla about what they want to do with this island, tho I've never heard anything about making it a private city. Of course, there's this Detroit vs the rest of the state mentality that goes on down there and obviously marketing the idea that way would go over as well a turd in the punch bowl. Those in charge have broke the city and they realize that there's some value in Belle Isle but I doubt they'd give up control, they just want outside help to fund their mess of a city. If it wasn't for sports teams and casinos, very few people would go there.
