It was on PBS last night and Rand Paul was interviewed briefly. I have to say it was both extremely interesting and frightening at the same time!. People should check it out to see what we may be up against:

@ggreenwald PBS program that @kgosztola says drooled over the Greatness of Drones received funding from Lockheed Martin http://is.gd/GIUD8e

Just as the security farces going on at airports mean big bucks for the regimes cronies like Michael Chertoff, drone warfare means big bucks for the welfare queens at Lockheed Martin. The limitless trillions in military spending, which still help to protect Germany from a Soviet invasion, for example, finds its way into the pockets of the owners of Xe/Blackwater/Academi and Lockheed Martin, to just name two players in this immense industry that lives on tax loot. Unbelievably, such comapanies present themselves as part of the "private sector" even though they wouldn't exist if not for the massive piles of cash that once belonged to the taxpayers, and are now shoveled in their general direction.

Anyone who's ever witnessed defense contracting knows that there is essentially zero oversight. Afterall, when it comes to "national defense" who would ever be so unpatriotic as to question the expense? Another trillion can always be stolen from the taxpayers, or more likely, printed as new money.

Fortunately, the pay that Lockheed receives for its drones (one of which crashed in Iran, by the way)allows for enough surplus for the company to pay PBS to advertise for their product.

‘Rise of the Drones’ Is Mostly a PBS Infomercial for the Military Defense Industry

Yeah, while watching it I did get that sense that it was more like an infomercial. I kept saying to myself, when are they going to show the other side - like how many civilians they've killed? Finally, they did show a brief segment of people protesting in Pakistan but still... not very balanced at all. But it was certainly educational if you want to find out how they operate.

But it was certainly educational if you want to find out how they operate.

I played with Radio Controlled Airplanes 30+ years ago. I know how they operate.

Just higher tech, and more gizmos than what I had.

I need info on disabling them at a distance.

See you've got that backwards. They're there to disable you from a distance.

That is what concerns me.

Anyone know how to build a tight beam targeting barrel for a microwave?
I have some old magnetrons around here.

I'd rather watch fall of the drones, I guess I'm going to wait for that one to play out. Thanks for posting

A couple people here have come up with a few ideas of their own. Some are kind of funny:

Reaper drone

Performance
Maximum speed: 300 mph; 260 kn (482 km/h)
Cruising speed: 194 mph; 169 kn (313 km/h) [78]
Range: 1,150 mi; 999 nmi (1,850 km)
Endurance: 14 hours fully loaded[79]
Service ceiling: 50,000 ft (15,240 m)
Operational altitude: 25,000 ft (7.5 km)[80]

COST Unit cost US$36.8 million (per aircraft, 2012)

Half as slow as a WW II fighter and almost the same altitude ceiling .I would like to see them use this drones against any country with basic AA systems. You could use WW II 88mm flak guns to take them down.IF you have anything more modern it would be like shooting fish in a barrel.

A friend was telling me that he had seen a show about E.M.P. machines. A scientist had build one that could fit in a towable trailer. My friend said that the scientist admitted that he could not show everything about it but he said it went into great detail. It was about 10 years ago. It was a PBS show possibly NOVA.

Unfortunately, my google FU has failed me. Even using all these key words in search I have yet to find it.

I'd seen something similar - I recall some parts being salvaged from a microwave (large capacitor). I forget what the slang term is for this type of device

I watched this one a few months back and posted it here. This one is more critical in its portrayal. Strange thing is that this one was titled "Rise of the Machines".
