This isn't a new video, but I just found it. Mark Rippetoe's barbell program is pretty much the gold standard of all newbie strength training programs. He's a highly accomplished coach and I've followed his workouts many times with amazing success. I was very happy to see this video. Nearly all of the body builders, powerlifters, and amateur gym gores I have met over the past decade have been libertarians. Here is some insight into why:

Also Mark's disclaimer about this video:

While the ideas of freedom and liberty are of great importance to me personally, my professional interest is in barbell training and functional human movement. The guys in this video do not train at my gym, they just stopped by for the interview. Sorry to have to disclaim this, but the bodybuilding-based exercise you see in the video is not representative of what actually happens here at WFAC/CFWF, and a person seeing this would have a hard time reconciling it with the material presented in our books, articles, and seminars.

We enjoyed having you guys here, but next time I’ll edit the video.

Yep, I can attest to this one. The strength and conditioning community heavily leans towards liberty-related beliefs.

I'm an amateur powerlifter (1395@220 on 9/3/2011 was my best meet total so far, Raw, Drug-Tested if we have any other PLers on the board), and worked as a personal trainer for nearly a decade. I'm of the opinion that self-empowerment, regardless of the initial political views of a person, will pull them in that direction. At least, that's how it worked with me and some others I know.

Self-empowerment makes individuals realize that self-reliance is possible, and given the S&C community is one of the nicest you will ever associate with, a realization that people will voluntarily help you without demanding compensation makes you wonder why the government is necessary as the middle man.

Look at the ad I got when I clicked on the link: https://tpc.googlesyndication.com/simgad/11643531383330669682

The head does not match the body.

Sorry to derail, that was a good video. Now that I think about it I started working out seriously around the time I became interested in liberty ideas.

Nice lifts Paulsen! I'm still trying to get to 1000lbs@190... maybe this summer.
