WASHINGTON (AP) -- A "Death Star" won't be a part of the U.S. military's arsenal any time soon.

More than 34,000 people have signed an online petition calling on the Obama administration to build the "Star Wars" inspired super-weapon to spur job growth and bolster national defense.

We might need it to protect against aliens though, Paul Krugman would approve.

That's only because there's only one inhabited planet for them to blow up - and they happen to be on it. Just wait until there are colonies on the Moon or Mars ...

how many trillion dollar coins need to be newly minted to create a fully functional Death Star that could be an artificial mini~moon?

I'd think it would be right up his alley as a 'stimulus'.

Someone already referenced this, but...

The administration does not support blowing up planets.

If you looked at the administration's actions over the past few years, it's really hard to believe this statement.

EDIT: I wonder who they picked to analyze the cost of building the Death Star, what the methodology was, and how much the "study" cost us? I mean how do you even calculate the cost of a planet destroying space station?
