View Full Version : How Does Your Paycheck Look?

Today is Friday, a lot of people are getting their first paycheck of 2013.

My taxes actually went down by a couple bucks maybe (completely negligible) except for Social Security, which went up about 33% bringing my paycheck amount down significantly. So much for my 'cost of living' raise for the last year or two. Wiped out.

Anybody else?

I will know on 1/18, I have purposely not ran it on a calculator ( not sure I need the aggravation ), my last one was $30 short , but that was only four days worth of the Social Sec rate , next one will be the full two weeks.

My pacheck was violated again. 2 percent lower than before the first of the year. 11% adjusting for real inflation.

And remember:

The new Medicare payroll is different. It will be imposed on the combined earnings of a married couple.

Employers are required to withhold Social Security and Medicare payroll taxes from wages paid to employees. But employers do not necessarily know how much a worker’s spouse earns and may not withhold enough to cover a couple’s Medicare tax liability. Indeed, the new rules say employers may disregard a spouse’s earnings in calculating how much to withhold.

Workers may thus owe more than the amounts withheld by their employers and may have to make up the difference when they file tax returns in April 2014 (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/09/us/politics/new-taxes-to-take-effect-to-fund-health-care-law.html?_r=0). If they expect to owe additional tax, the government says, they should make estimated tax payments, starting in April 2013, or ask their employers to increase the amount withheld from each paycheck.

Hard for me to to guesstimate. I get paid every 2 wks. Had 2 holidays @ double time and 1/2 on it. (xmas 2012, New yrs. 2013) 6 days were still 2012 rate and 4 days 2013 plus a raise for the 2013 days so who the hell knows. I'll wait until I get my next check of a straight 80 hrs. and compare it then.

Paychecks for most people coming in next week.

We need to be ready to explain to the confused liberals on twitter what happened and why on average their paycheck will be $80-100 down.

We got a 1.2% raise across the board, and I got a 100 dollar raise on top of that...However, due to the taxes and the SS tax going back to 6% I make the roughly exactly what I did before.

Same here, though my check was than expected after 60+ hours for the pay period.

Mine was literally enough to cover the gas to drive to work. Only job I could find is 25 miles away from the house, 12 hours per week. Fuck my life, for real.

Can we pretty please have this collapse soon so we're all in the same boat. Please?

My steady and official paycheck looks about the same, but honestly I haven't looked at the stub to see what went where. I do know that obviously some of my taxation went up, but on the flipside my health insurance now costs me $0 (it used to be $25 or so out of each paycheck).

I can't really tell yet- it was not a typical check for me. Had eight hours of holiday pay plus eight hours of overtime I would not have normally had. That alone probably pushed me into a higher tax rate for the week.

I was going to get a Blue Cross/Blue Shield select health insurance plan for $60 a month starting this pay period.
but i had to forgo health insurance because of the increase in taxes... you know, so we can double tap some family's funeral in pakistan.

Spam is no joke. I picked up a couple of cans the other day and I haven't had it since Boy Scouts. We used to always take it camping. Handy being canned but perfect to get some grease to cook in.

Not to bad. About like I remembered.

P.S. Oh yeah. Back to crying about my paycheck.

I'm pretty sure I was getting about a buck fifty picking watermelons when I was a kid. That comes to $32.55 in today's fiat according to the Silver and Gold Payment Calculator. (http://www.silverandgoldaremoney.com/) I don't think I was ever healthier then I was after that stint. I keep meaning to start a health club that buses people out to the fields for work instead of yanking some handle at a gym somewhere...

unless it is one of my gyms where the exercise equipment drives generators and tell you how much power you've produced.

Another bus leaving at 7:00 Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!

My son and his wife told me about this. Combined their checks are $75/week lighter now. The sad thing is that because of this they fired their cleaning service which cost them $90/week. Now here is the sad part of it all, the girls that run the maid service are two women, they clean 3 houses per day and just lost at least one client because of this tax hike. So you have girls that make $500 a week each cleaning houses losing $45 of that. Not to mention that their taxes went up as well. It's a vicious cycle.

Fuck you very much, Obama.

Exactly. And think of it as it spirals down, those women have less money to spend now, which means someone else somewhere is getting hours cut back or losing their job. It's really a sad state we are in.

The problem is that the left HATES capitalism and rejoices in seeing this stuff happen, because somewhere out there someone had to file for welfare or food stamps for the first time because of the vicious cycle at work.

Thats why idiots who say tax the rich dont understand in the end its an indirect tax on them and they will most likely be economically hit harder by this indirect tax than the direct tax on those "evil rich pigs."

Exactly, it expired for the self employed too, so we should see prices slowly rise at pizza shops, barbershops, hardware stores, etc.

I am missing 8 hours on today's check but they took out an extra $14 bucks. I figure I will be missing about $65-$70 a month. I am not sure about my wife yet. We will know Tuesday.

Yes, but unless there's a sudden movement toward impeachment it's a little too late for the realization. Even then, the next people in line are potentially worse.
