In an interview with the Daily Times Herald in Caroll, Iowa, state Rep. Dan Muhlbauer said governments should start confiscating semi-automatic rifles and other firearms.

Muhlbauer, a Democrat from the western Iowa town of Manilla, is a cattleman and farmer. The newspaper reported that he owns a .410 shotgun, a .22 rifle and a .22 pistol.

“We cannot have big guns out here as far as the big guns that are out here, the semi-automatics and all of them,” Muhlbauer told the newspaper during a December 19 audiotaped interview. “We can’t have those running around out here. Those are not hunting weapons.”

“We should ban those in Iowa,” he said, adding that such a ban should be applied retroactively.

“We need to get them off the streets — illegally — and even if you have them, I think we need to start taking them,” Muhlbauer told the Daily Times Herald. “We can’t have those out there. Because if they’re out there they’re just going to get circulated around to the wrong people. Those guns should not be in the public’s hands. There are just too many guns.”

If there is ever a new republic these kinds of people do not need to be allowed to become citizens of it.

A video to consider.

More politicians should come out and say what they want to do.

I think this would be a good chance for our guys in Iowa to show what they can do. See if AJ Spiker can come up with a challenger for this lawmaker.

It is always good to have some examples that there are no limits on the stupidity of someone you'd expect would be reasonably intelligent.

"Oh, no politicians would advocate taking your guns, relax."

And you get to say: "See here, here and here."

We can make use of "useful idiots", too.

Newly elected Iowa GOP Co-Chairman David Fischer issued a press release this morning in response. You may remember David Fischer from such past endeavors as serving as Ron Paul's Iowa Co-Chairman.

Iowa GOP Co-Chairman Affirms & Defends Gun Rights
Pledges to Lead Strong Challenge in 2014

DES MOINES, Iowa — Today Republican Party of Iowa Co-Chairman David Fischer called on Iowa’s elected officials to reaffirm and defend the Constitutional right of Iowans to defend themselves after Iowa State Representative Dan Muhlbauer said he believed in both the banning of legally owned semi-automatic firearms as well as the confiscation of guns from law abiding Iowa residents.

“Iowans don’t support leaders who would disregard the Constitution and attempt to confiscate guns they own completely legally,” said newly-elected Republican Party Co-Chairman David Fischer. “I question if some Iowans would have supported Dan Muhlbauer if they had known his extreme views on confiscating legally owned guns from law abiding citizens.”

Representative Muhlbauer has achieved national headlines with an interview he gave calling for the confiscation of even basic types of guns from Iowans, including those already legally owned by law-abiding citizens. In an interview last week with Douglas Burns of the Carroll Daily Times, Representative Dan Muhlbauer stated he believed semi-automatic firearms should be banned completely. When asked if a ban should be instituted only for future purchases or backdated on those guns already owned, Representative Muhlbauer responded, “We need to get them of the streets, illegally, and even if you have them I think we need to start taking them.”

In response Iowa GOP Co-Chairman David Fischer issued the following statement:

“Chilling statements like this show that Representative Dan Muhlbauer clearly doesn’t understand the Constitutional protections of the second amendment or fourth amendment. His idea that the government should “start taking” our guns is especially troubling. The Republican Party is prepared to stand with the people of Iowa and fight for their constitutionally guaranteed right to defend themselves and their families. We also believe the fourth amendment guarantees us the right to be secure in our homes without unreasonable search and seizure.”

“Absolutely nowhere in the Constitution does it give the government the right to confiscate our guns. I call on Iowa’s elected officials to reaffirm and defend the constitutionally guaranteed right of Iowans to defend themselves and their families. In addition, the Republican Party will lead a fervent campaign to reject these extremist views and unseat Mr. Muhlbauer in 2014 and elect a candidate who truly understands the principles of freedom.”

The Iowa GOP has been running a one day fundraising push. A "money-bomb" dare I say it. Maybe a money grenade? Our goal was to raise $214 in one day (2014...) to get things moving to defend the second amendment and challenge this Democratic lawmaker. Hit the first goal, so set a second of $428. Hit that so we're setting a third.

A one day push to raise $642 dollars (https://secure.piryx.com/donate/NUjpCg9q/Republican-Party-of-Iowa/secondamendment) to affirm gun rights and make it known to everyone that the Iowa GOP is taking a stand on this issue. We want everyone to know where the Republican Party of Iowa stands on the Constitution.

If you folks would be so inclined, please contribute or pass this on. (https://secure.piryx.com/donate/NUjpCg9q/Republican-Party-of-Iowa/secondamendment) Thank you.
