Who patents seed? Monsanto. Why? To control our food and for no other reason. This is a slippery slope folks.
It's been referred to committee. Hopefully it dies there. But probably not, if Monsanto has anything to do with it. I wonder how much they gave her.

Retaining the seed for what though? As of now the laws are clear that you can retain for your own uses and not pay fees.

Most of the small grains and soybeans are what they're after. There's very little corn grown that isn't hybred so it wont replant and produce. Monsanto would be going after the GMO crops to protect "their" improvements from being borrowed by other seed companies. As for the regular joe farmer they don't replant much of anything. Its easier to buy bulk seeds every year.

Have you ever seen this documentary? Monsanto has bigger plans, that include pushing out the small farmer.
Scroll down and watch the doc when you get time.

I don't think that is how it used to be, because regular joe farmer was the one producing bulk seeds.

Either way, there are regular joe farmers who have had years worth of stockpiled seeds that they have refined over decades which all had to be destroyed because Monsanto tested their crops without their knowledge and found that some of what was being planted had their patented genes. Well, it turns out a neighbor was using Monsanto GMO seeds and they were falling off their truck and getting blown into their field, or carried over by birds, and now their genes were intermixing with joe farmer's genes. So the courts ordered they destroy all of their seedstock because Monsanto had the gene patented and they couldn't tell what of their stock had what genes.
